    Hi just want to thank you for your great videos. They are truly appreciated. I have a 2010 mountaineer with 68,000 miles and the 4.0 engine and the 5r55s trans. Vehicle meticulous maintained. Oil change between 3-4000 miles. Trans every 20,000 miles. I have saved every video you made on the timming chains and transmission. No issues yet. Again thank you Sir

    WARNING VERY IMPORTANT! What this video does not mention and I am sure it was mentioned in one of his other video's since he is in a business to make money and not give out all the information or perhaps he just forgot to mention it is before you can remove the solenoid pack you first have to remove the 10 mm bolt running through the top of the wire connected to the top above the solenoid pack. Forcing the solenoid pack or prying it off in any other way will cost you the solenoid pack or even the transmission case all together. Notice the solenoid pack was already unscrewed with just the center screw left and no mention of the 10 mm bolt on top?..

    Really enjoy and learn a lot from your videos. I have an 03 Crown Victoria and need to know what to check for a reverse that does not want to engage after driving on the interstate for a good while, 30 miles or so , and on real hot days. It will sometimes need to sit for a half an hour before catching reverse. Thank you

    The number one reason this transmission fails is because of bad O-rings on the plug going into the valve unit the AC unit on most explorers dump water on it constantly lot of times you'll find rust on top of the reverse valve and if it's been doing it for a while that usually kills that valve

    Good video. Do you have any tricks for removing a broken o/d servo pin? It is broken right at the hole through the side of the pin. I can move it a little with the valve body off, but can't get it out.

    Thank you so much for your videos, you have taught me so much man. Just had a few questions for you. 99explrer4.0sohc4x4 175000 original miles. I Was about to do a lot of work and maintenance on it $$ but am questioning the transmission for 2 reasons, which is making me hesitate before babying and spending on the old Explorer.
    It has been babied never driven hard and isn't really showing any signs of wear in any gears except for final gear. It takes a while to shift into final gear until the trans warms up than no problems just shifts a bit early and a bit laggy I would say. I thought it was maybe the valve body gasket but just wanted your expert opinion.
    Also shifting into reverse it kinda slam into gear once in a while not always, if I depress brake and feather correctly it can be smooth shifting into reverse. Also what are your thought on high mileage transmission fluid changes or flushes?
    Otherwise The motors solid and burns no oil. I got some usual signs of wear, pcv, valve cover, Im gaskets, etc, but thanks to YOUR videos it will ALL be a BREEZE, hopefully your thoughts on the transmission is good news and I will go ahead and take care of business!

  • @dhoeffner
    @dhoeffner 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a 2008 Explorer 2wd XLT 4.0 6 and it started having the harsh engage to reverse only. From park to reverse it hard engages and from reverse back to park it does as well. It shifts from park into drive fine, and shifts through all of the gears fine. From everything I have read including this vid it sounds like the valve body. My questions is should the solenoid pack be replaced as well when doing this? Its only $200 more to do, but wondered if it was even necessary.

    Hey there! I recently came across some issues with my 2000 Ford Ranger with an AT. The O/D OFF light started blinking, so I pulled the code and it threw the P0741 code. I'm trying to diagnose what exactly it could be. I think I may just end up diving in and checking it out, but I'm completely new to this. This video helped me understand it way more, but I'm still a bit unclear. My symptoms are that it will come on after a couple miles of driving, then reset when I shut the truck off. Seems pretty common from what I read on the internet, but can't find an exact solution. Another symptom is that it has an extremely harsh shift from 1st to 2nd, and I think it's a bit harsh from 2nd to 3rd but not nearly as noticeable. Based on these symptoms, do you have any advice? Not expecting an exact solution, but could you help me figure out how to go about resolving the issue with out throwing a bunch of new solenoids and new parts at it? Thank you!

    I was trying to replace servo pistons but had a mishap, so I had to remove the servo pistons. However, one broke, so now im taking off the valve body to see if I can get to it. But, the solenoid pack is not wanting to come out, I have removed all the bolts, and it moves but seems like it is caught on something in the bore, could this be the broken piston or is there a secret to removing the solenoid pack? Thanks!

  • @caddyworks3307

    In respect to conservative measures, I train the fluid replace the filter replace the fluid flush it twice after that and on the last fill I add BG automatic transmission concentrate and overtime these late and harsh shifts will work themselves out. Worn out low or broken down fluid will cause valves in a valve body to stick or have some scoring. If any product in the world will help clean that up it is BG atc. I have had amazing success with this product the other points are fluid gets hot when it's thin and worn out because it's not lubricating antifreeze that is old is not cooling your transmission or your engine like it should and old thin worn out engine oil the same thing. Dirty injectors cause extra fuel to wash past the rings you now have a crankcase that has fuel in the oil and none of this is any good. Full new and vital fluids are the key to the life of your car. By the way drain and fill that transfer case with ATF and bgmgc as well as your front and rear differentials. Replace that fuel filter. American made fuel filters plug themselves up because of pressure and volume unlike foreign car filters that will go 80,000 miles. Ford is not back and better than ever Ford is just the way they always used to be cheap and high maintenance

    I do things conservatively. Basic foundational viewing from 10,000 ft. Replace that filter replace the fluid swap the fluid another three times and put in your BG automatic transmission concentrate. Clean and vital fluid is the trick. Also Ford tends to use radiators that are too small for the vehicles on top of that people don't change their oil don't change their tranny fluid don't change the coolant. Finn worn out broken down oil and antifreeze cannot cool properly. Get your fluids replaced make sure they are full keep your tire pressures full and when you're at a mile high going uphill with thin air and high temperatures loaded to the gills with people and luggage help the vehicle by backing off a little bit it's not going to do what it does at sea level. Not to be derogatory or sound like I know it all. I do the little and basic things first BG ATC will break down varnish sludge and little pieces of sediment that are holding those valves from moving. 90% of your problems are people because people don't take care of stuff

      It doesn't matter. You can take it off completely if you want it's just a little filter, and pretty much the transmission filter itself filters out all bad particles.

      Did you ever figure out what was causing this?
      I'm having the same issue but in reverse and drive but the vehicle moves in sst 1st and 2nd gear but wont do 3rd or up.
      I'm going to clean inspect the valve body and install the TransGo shift kit and a new solenoid pack as well.
      It would be nice to know what else I should look for and what is causing the same no movement but slightly lurch forward or reverse.

    I have a 2007 Ford Fusion that will not shift into a higher gear. Once you hit about 40 to 50 mph, only the RPMs go up but no upshift. I took it to the dealership for a diagnostic and they said it needed a valve body replacement. However, they also said there could be further transmission damage but would only know for sure after removing the transmission oil pan. If I remove it myself, how will I know if it only needs a valve body replacement and/or if no other transmission damage has occurred? Plus where can I get the torque sequence for this valve body? I would appreciate any help! Thank you for what you already do!

      +Ruben Galindo I assume you have the 6 speed? Which gears are you missing? First check is the trans fluid level, color and smell is it burnt?

    • @rubengalindo1821
      @rubengalindo1821 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +FordTechMakuloco
      I was told by the Ford dealership that it's a 5 speed. I'm not sure at what gear it stops. and yes the fluid is black but it doesn't really smell burnt.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ruben Galindo because this is a mazda trans only the valve body or complete transmission is available. So thery are guessing at the valve body to get you in there and then drop the bombshell you need a complete trans because it did not fix it and nothing is serviceable on the trans. If you remove the valve body you would be looking for excessive debris causing the valves to stick. They should move freely in their bores.

      ok thanks. If it indeed needs another transmission, Ford quoted me $8,000 plus. The car is not even worth $8K. Are used or rebuilt transmissions difficult to change out? Are special tools required for this job? I'm no mechanic but I do try to do some things if they're not too difficult.

    I have a 2004 Explorer giving error codes for the torque converter as you mentioned as well as codes for shifts, which I think indicates worn servo bore in the tranny case. I also have a solenoid error.
    Do you think I need a servo fix, and a new valve body and solenoid body?

    +FordTechMakuloco good afternoon, I'm hoping you can help diagnose an issue with my 2008 explorer xlt, 137k miles. A few days ago my card began hard shifting from 1-2-3 making a sound like a louder spin up. not the smooth humm, but more of a "vrooooom". Very difficult to describe. I scanned for codes and it shows P0443, p0053, p0059, p0060, p0403, p0054, p0528,p0620 . I took it to a shop and was told I need a transmission rebuild quoted $1800. The only light that is on my dash is the check engine light which was there a few week priors to the hard shifting. Thanks for all the youtube content it has help sort out other issues with my cars.

    i have a 2005 ranger fx 2, 4 liter with a 5R55E (acording to the sticker and book) my trans is not shifting, it stays in 1st, the od off light is flashing and i have no reverse. I also have no check engine light on at this time. Any Ideas? 125,000 miles

      +Raymond Root The flashing O/D light means the pcm has found a trans fault and stored a code so get the codes read first.

    • @raymondroot6598
      @raymondroot6598 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Raymond Root ok I found my issue at least I think I did. I dropped my pan, pulled the valve body to check gaskets. then I niticed a peice of aluminum kind of hanging on the passenger side. Turns out the snap ring housing for the o.d. serval has about a 1-1/2 inch peice broken out witch in turn allowed the serval to twist. So I was woundering if i put the surval back in place and reinstall the snap ring, do you think this would hold for a few weeks? Or would some J.B. weld hold the peice good enough for a temp fix?

    Hello. Great videos. I have a quick question. Out of the blue my 2003 ford explorer just didn't want to reverse. All other gears are fine. Shift good on drive and everything just no reverse. It goes into gear but nothing. Can it be the reverse servo, band, valve body? Thanks!

    Hey buddy I have a question for you my 0t ford explorer is getting two transmission codes can't remember the code exactly. But first one said solenoid pack A and second one said gear 3 out of ratio. Should I get it rebuilt or should I change the solenoid pack?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having the exact code is best but if you have high mileage the servo bores are likely worn anyway so a solenoid pack may only prolong the inevitable rebuild of the trans.

      You will have to count the shift to see if it is achieving 5th gear or not, sounds like a servo bore issue not allowing 5th gear. Any codes yet?

      MocThaBoss Wallace I would check for blown out gaskets yes, but more than likely the servo seals are hard and not sealing very well causing the 2-3 shift flare very common.

    Good morning! Just bought a used 04 explorer 4.6 V8 and I'm having the hard shift into reverse and sometimes a hard shift into 2nd and to get to overdrive. Most times this has happened, the "check transmission" message came on the trip computer display and the O/D light flashed. Turning the car off and on reset these messages. But the other day this happened and it triggered the check engine light. My friend here at work has a code puller and I got the P0775 error code - solenoid b - should I just go for the solenoid block replacement and also a new pan gasket and filter and see how that goes?

  • @Tron-ml4yt
    @Tron-ml4yt 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm having same problem my o/d lights on and it seems to slip after it hits 45 mph. But I can't get a code because my check engine light won't come on. I think it's the solenoid pack but how can I be sure.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tron2271 if the O/D light is flashing then there is a pcm code stored. Your scanner must be able to read manufacturer codes as P1744 is likely set.
