"Hate mail?" That's right, V. Back in the day, if you wanted to hate on someone, you couldn't just leave an insulting comment or make a social media post! You had to get a pen and paper, write a letter, seal it, address it, stamp it, and mail it. Haters had to be COMMITTED, dammit! 😂
To answer some of your boxing questions 1. Yes some fighters in the old days did chase chickens to increase footwork 2. They spit in order to hydrate their mouths but don't swallow cause that can lead to stomach cramps and getting sick during a fight. 3. There are different rules for different boxing matches it's set by the fights sanctioning body.
Re "3.", and both fighters have to agree on things like total rounds, glove size/weight, if three knock downs counts as a knockout, standing 8th counts and being able to be saved by the bell for the end of the round happing while receiving a ten count after being knocked down.
@@TheAtkey Yes, the standing 8 count went away in 1998 for title fights in the major organizations; but some State Commissions have it for regular matches.
Burgess Meredith was one of the best character actors ever, and his portrayal of Mick is just beautiful. He delivers those crazy exclamations like no one else ever could have, not even Mickey Rooney. I’m looking forward to seeing your reaction to Rocky III, especially for that, and for the adversary of that movie. Burt Young (Paulie) is pretty good in III, too.
"I won, but I didn't beat him!" He was honest with himself. Probably the best line in the movie. Apollo was a competitor. He wasn't a sore loser, even though it might seem like it. Apollo is more of an antagonist rather than a villain. Apollo was confident, a little cocky, but he knew that Rocky should've won the first fight. He didn't make too many excuses and try to dodge Rocky. Rocky pushed him futher than probably any fighter in his career. Apollo embraced the challenge. Even though Rocky won, he knew that Rocky was the real deal and he earned Apollo respect.
You can see that at the end of the match; Rocky rushes over to hold Apollo's hand up and Apollo pats him on the head. Then Rocky publicly thanks Apollo for fighting him. Sportsmanship is a grand thing.
The whole piece of Adrian being Rocky’s strength becomes a theme through this entire series, and I mean the entire series even in the movies that aren’t as good as some other ones. I REALLY hope you watch all the way through to the final Rocky Balboa movie. One of the best long-term way out finales to a franchise that’s ever been done in my opinion.
So the story with the child abduction is when they were filming this scene, Stallone was originally running alone, but kids kept following him during the shooting of the scene, so Stallone decided to make it part of the movie where everyone followed him up the stairs.
You can tell the kids running behind him was totally organic, it doesn't look staged or fake at all. They just happened to be shooting that scene on a public street surrounded by people just going about their day and that is what came out of it. It's one of the those happy accidenets that made one of the most iconic scenes in a movie ever.
This franchise shows sequels can work when done right. Fun fact: While preparing for this movie, stallone had a bench pressing accident that tore his peck off. He got surgery but had 2 choices, cancel the movie or work it in. So he wrote in that rocky fight right handed and switches near the end. Shows that stallone is a smart writer.
Good lord I love you seeing and discovering how perfect a sequel this is to Rocky in every way. And that "win" and the music sting then cut to pushups is AMAZING.
Not every kid chasing him was from Philly, me and my friends were from South Jersey. They put out a call on local radio, my mother was nice enough to take us over.
They don't spit out all the water. They swallow a little to stay hydrated but spit most out to prevent dry mouth and more importantly to avoid cramping.
The best thing about the rocky movies (for the most part) is that the story of Rocky and his family is always concurrent with the boxing story. They are intertwined.
The reason Rocky has the greatest love story is because it's not a sports movie. It just happens to have sports in it, ask Sylvester Stallone, he will tell you, Rocky is a love story period
Hi VKunia! Great reaction. You had some questions: *1)* Chasing chickens - Yup. Old school great legwork & reflexes. *2)* Spitting out water - Yup. You want to be hydrated entering the ring, but the last thing you want is a belly full of water when stomach punched. *3)* Rocky training with his left arm? - Yup, he was training his left as a set-up jab, instead of the finisher for one-two combos. *Some Non-Spoiler Franchise Info:* - Yup. Love story. Adrian & Rocky are a team. *Apollo - Antagonist Yes. Bad Guy No.* - Apollo has a passion for the Boxing sport as a whole. He made himself "the bad guy" for the personal challenge as well as the legacy of the sport. He is a confident warrior. Apollo knows the importance of Rocky in boxing history. He gave Rocky every advantage for the match that he could. The back of the head push was to egg Rocky on to fight better. After the match, Apollo raised Rocky's hand as the winner of fair combat. Apollo is a good sport, not a bad one.
After the first installment, winning all kinds of awards and acclaim, Sly Stallone became a star. Just as he felt poised to prove even more of his career, there was also more to prove for the character of Rocky. The first of 4 sequels that Sly would write and direct. To be lead actor/filmmaker is what he described as 'The Sleepless Job' and it takes a lot to commit to everything. Bigger budget, bigger stakes and bigger challenges. The supporting cast delivers on so much more with theiŕ characters. Pushing the narrative of going the distance and motivation to get a second chance to prove your worth. Just like before, Stallone penned the fight between Rocky & Apollo aka Superfight II (credited as boxing choreographer) and putting this battle on paper with as much substance as the script is genius. IRL, Stallone had 2 sons who played Rocky Jr. in ROCKY II, Rocky jr. as an baby was played by his youngest Seargeoh after his birth and months before the film's release, the baby's scenes with Rocky & Adrian were the final scenes of filming. Sure it was the end of the 1970s, but ROCKY without a doubt was the cinematic icon you'd never forget. Alongside The Godfather Part 2 (1974) as one of the best sequels of the era.
Since you seemed confused when Rock was working the bag; orthodox (right handed) fighters jab with their left, and throw with their right. Southpaws are the opposite.
I’m can’t wait for you to watch the next 2! My favorites in the series! I hope you watch all 6 then the 3 Creed spin-off movies(that also start by continuing & finishing Rocky’s story)

Fun fact: in Round 2 when Creed pushes Rocky's head, that was real. They had been working on the filming the scene and tensions got high after a long day of filming. They decided to keep it in to show the tensions between the fighters building.
The one part of this movie's ending I absolutely loved was that after everything Apollo said or did against Rocky he is the one to hand over the title, raise Rocky's hand, and then ruffle his hair as if to say, "Good job, kid, you beat me clean." Such a good way to turn his arc being so humble in losing.
I always thought it as something from Rocky's rough upbringing and old fashion ways. Since he grew up poor and with some criminal connections from the streets he liking learned the older form of boxing, i.e. bare knuckle boxing. When you watch Rocky 4, watch the Director’s Cut. I REALLY want you to see this entire franchise. All the way to the Creed movies. Except for 5, they literally just keep getting better each time.
Chasing chickens? Yes, it builds speed and improves your side to side movements. The reason they spit the water out is for one, they dont want to have to pee because their gloves are taped and two, drinking too much water while working hard can upset your stomach pr even cause you to vomit.

"Did he actually have to hit him for that shot?" I'm not 100% but I'm almost 100% sure that Stallone asks the actors he fights in the Rocky movies to hit him at least once for real. Sometimes, people got pretty hurt filming these.
Cool music trivia I learned not long ago. Bill Conti did the symphonic score for Rocky and he also did the score for Karate Kid :) Underrated movie composer.
Rocky II is one of the greatest sequels of all time! In the first movie he won the love of his life, but in this one he’s a new champion, husband, and father who became the greatest underdog story ever told!
Yes its a fact that fighters have trained chasing chickens for quickness. Jack Dempsey, Rocky Marciano and Joe Louis just to name a few chaed chickens.

You were wonderful why Rocky was hitting the bag with his left hand. Right handed boxers jab with their left hand and left handed boxera with their right. The jab is a set up for the power punch which is thrown with the dominant hand. He was fighting as a right haded boxer
Apollo, at the beginning, is the spectacle he's a businessman and smart fighters know. If they had an incredible fight that goes to decision, people are going to crave a rematch. But Apollo didn't expect the blow to his ego and the death threats. That's why, to me, this is the best fight in the series.
Great reaction! Enjoy #3,4, 5, and 6 (aka "Rocky Balboa" 2006). It was pre social media influencer boxing. The contract between Tyson vs. Paul read if Tyson knocks Paul out in first round (which he could have) Tyson doesn't get paid, and other ridiculous rules. A circus act.
"Watch out Rocky. They're gonna try and rob you. It's South Philly; don't trust anyone." Ah, how quickly we forget! The denizens of South Philly probably know better than to try to mug Rocky. Remember: he was a collector just a year before this. If you have any sense, you won't mug someone that can break your legs. "Why are you not blocking?!" If you're gonna watch the rest of these "Rocky" movies, you better get used to that.
V gave Apollo a lot of sh!t for his antics leading up to the fight, but he was quite the sportsman at the end, raising Rocky's hand in victory and patting/rubbing his head while handing him the belt. He was a true competitor.
😎 I don't know about Philly, but here in Los Angeles, it was possible to occasionally get lucky and nab a parking space back in the late 1970s. 🥊 Not anymore, of course. 😉👍
As you’re going into the sports movie genre. I’d love a reaction to Rush(2013). You get really attached to the characters in your reactions which makes them extremely authentic and it also has 2 polar opposite protagonists and love to see what you think of them
I first saw this movie when it came out in the theaters in 1978 or 79? I've seen countless reactions. But never did I hear someone say "he's just accumulating the town-folks children."
08:33 Are you talking about the clapper slate? Sound and film used to be recorded separately most of the time, so they used that to sync it all together in post. Thanks for making me feel old, lol.
Great reaction! Its Rockyfest here in Philly this week. Lol The Rocky franchise just gets better and better. Hope you finish and then react to Creed. The first 2 are amazing! 💚🥊🥊💚
Rocky 3 is my favourite so looking forward to it. Especially for 1 monologue. 4 is... rocky 4. How can I explain it? I think I don't because I think most knows what I mean.
Chasing chickens gets you the eggs to drink raw. The spit bucket is for drinking raw eggs. The running scene with all the children is for the sequel, Rocky VS Zombie Philly Kids.
Ok, so "watch out Rocky, they're gonna try to rob you, it's south Philly, trust noone" and the entire theft of the townsfolks children was the funniest reaction I've ever seen to a Rocky momtage.
Great films, acting & story! Now…..since you liked these movies/story(ies), please check out “Cinderella Man” w/ Russell Crowe & Renee Zellweger 🙏😊 As well as the Rambo series - Rambo:First Blood - great acting by Sylvester Stallone (just my opinion😉)
You finished season 2 of Cobra Kai, the final season is coming out now piece by piece, you COULD NOT have picked a better time to start watching “Rocky”. “Karate Kid” was already basically “Rocky” with karate and teenagers, they were even directed by the same guy. Next few seasons of “Cobra Kai” there are gonna be SO MANY “Rocky” references Edit: go easy on Creed, he was getting threatening letters about that fight, those crazies were even probably threatening his wife and kids
You could say a lot of those haters were way too committed. Muhammad Ali and pretty much every black boxer in America was proof of that.
I still write and send hate mail. The pen is definitely mighty than the sword.

I have seen that movie over a thousand times and still till this day.I still tear up at the end. Loved reaction 🎉
Water gives you cramps when fighting you spit it out. Hydrate the mouth. Awsome reactions your the best❤
Not drinking water between rounds is to avoid cramping or throwing up in the next round.
I think the next Rocky movies will break your heart with the son relationship thing.
All Rocky needed was to have Adrian say win and that was all it took
This whole franchise is great. 5 is a little rough but still super important.
With the exception of maybe Rocky V, which is okay but not great, the entire series is fantastic
The music during the fight is gladiator-like! 🎶
Great job. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Fantastic reaction. Drop whatever you had planned, and watch III immediately
Drinking too much water will cause you to cramp up . Hydrate well before and after .
When you're done with Rocky you should try Warrior.
The poem Rocky wrote for Adrian always gets me. 😢❤
Great films, acting & story! Now…..since you liked these movies/story(ies), please check out “Cinderella Man” w/ Russell Crowe & Renee Zellweger 🙏😊
As well as the Rambo series - Rambo:First Blood - great acting by Sylvester Stallone (just my opinion😉)
That kind of love exists, it’s just not so easy to find.
It’s almost been a month since better call Saul 🥺 please upload those more consistently! I miss those reactions
After this one, the sequels are very different. They embraced the 80's pop culture and the franchise goes in a rather interesting direction.
You finished season 2 of Cobra Kai, the final season is coming out now piece by piece, you COULD NOT have picked a better time to start watching “Rocky”. “Karate Kid” was already basically “Rocky” with karate and teenagers, they were even directed by the same guy. Next few seasons of “Cobra Kai” there are gonna be SO MANY “Rocky” references
Edit: go easy on Creed, he was getting threatening letters about that fight, those crazies were even probably threatening his wife and kids
