There you are Nikki! Good to see you. Not sure if all pet insurance covers for prescriptions or not but I know if you don't have pet insurance, use this tip: If the vet wants to prescribe medicine for your pet, ask if they can send that prescription to be filled at your regular local pharmacy. It's cheaper than having the vet office fill it and a lot of the stuff they give to pets can be filled at your local pharmacy.

You can use GoodRx for pet prescriptions.

Trupanion is amazing they cover up to 90% my girl was in the ICU and to date with prescription they have paid over 100,000 they also do not have limits on the coverage. Trupanion is the way to go! Get it as the pet is younger it is cheaper

Thanks for the Video and it could be helpful for some. We had Embrace insurance for our 9 month old Yorkie (Enzo) through USAA and decided to cancel. Everything started fine until we submitted the medical report card. They did everything possible to include pre-existing conditions. My wife and I decided to get the best Veterinarian possible and create a saving account for any issue we might have with Enzo. We may consider Pet Insurance later, but for now it was not what we expected!

Just signed on to join this series and loving it. About two years ago, I rescued a dog from a guy who could no longer care for her. I had to get into mommy mode all over again and loving it. Yes, there were some early vet bills because he didn't take care if her. Today, she is healthy and happy....most of all, Princess is Spoiled Rotten. God Bless.

This video is much needed. I’m still going to do my own research but I found it interesting that nationwide wasn’t on your list. So that just let me know I have to dig a little deeper because my job offers it through them.

I didn't realize it early on but my employer offers a pet insurance discount (not a payroll deduction but just a discount). I've been considering getting a pet because of that. I'm glad I checked the fine details during our last open enrollment! I think that comes around during the spring so it's a great time to look into this.

Your hair looks fab Nikki. I am going to the hospital soon for a month, We had to have our boy PRICKLES put down last year he was 15 we got him when he was 7, my husband said we can get another dog when I get home. I think we will get pet insurance, we have never had it before. Greetings from Susan in Australia. I love your 2 dogs. My husband who is 75 smiled when I showed him Bently and Albert.

Very informative. You are very lucky you have a dog who survived parvovirus. That is a horrible illness. I have run into that with cat/dog rescue. Unfortunately puppies have to be a certain age to get the shot

Very interesting I have a Yorkie that came with giardia and it has been a expensive one so I know that feeling I use petco and they have been very economical although I had two emergency visit which were so expensive. How every you said something about handling the cost upfront what was that and how does that work can you explain that more detailed,
    . Thanks 🙏

Nikki...did you decide to switch from Pet Plan to USAA? It kinda looks like USAA goes through Embrace from what I looked at (I’m a current USAA member).

Yes! We decided to get pet insurance for our dog Jessie ( 2 years old) there were things that we thought would not be covered - WAS COVERED! so it was worth it for us- but it may be different here in Canada than the USA. For us, it is worth it : )

I actually just got a dog and purchased NationWide + Wellness pet insurance. I was hoping to get recommendations on pet insurance but I’m in California and people I talked to in the neighborhood or just out and about with pets; don’t have pet insurance. I talked to a couple of Vets and I was told NationWide, Trupanion , Healthy Paws and Embrace are the most common. I can’t say if NationWide is good or not because it’s only been a week into my new policy but I wanted some type of pet insurance due to check-ups and emergencies. Thank you for the information.

We have embrace and it’s worked for us pretty well. Thankfully haven’t had any big issues to arise. But I didn’t know about pet life insurance, I’m definitely gonna be checking in to that. Thanks for sharing this video it is very much appreciated💕.
