      Might as well ask why people dental insurance is separate from medical insurance. I researched why that is, and it was a decision made many decades ago when these larger insurance plans were created. Dentists weren't used by most people and they didn't lobby much to be included and here we are today, with separate insurance which many don't have including Medicare.

    Trupanion - We pay about $160 per month for 4 cats. We recently had two that were feeling ill, after a couple rounds of meds our vet recommended biopsies. When she went in, both cats required surgical removal of hairballs and one needed a feeding tube. Trupanion has taken great care of us and reimbursed us within 5-7 days of receiving our filed claim.
    In 2017 we had a series of unfortunate events with a single veterinary incident that cost us 18k. We had been planning to get pet insurance for months, but never got around to it. Now that we have Trupanion, we feel at ease knowing that we might be spared from having to make a difficult decision.

      Their wellness plans seem to be one of the worse to me price wise. You spend and extra 32.40 a month for annual $450 of wellness coverage. In other words, you're spending about $425 a year to get reimbursed up to $450. You save $25. Other plans were only charging $25 at most for similar wellness coverage.

    Pet insurance and vet fees just don’t make sense and it’s frustrating. I have Banfield wellness +plan for $60 a month with unlimited visits, free dental cleaning, and other free stuff. Every time I take my cat they show me all the stuff they did and how much it would’ve cost me. Regular fees would have been about $500 to $1000. My fees $0 to $100 extra. They always try to convince you for extended blood work, fee for an expert opinion, or extra X-rays. They make you feel like you saving $$$ with the wellness but try to nickel and dime you every time.
    Vets should just be honest and truthful then we would not need pet insurance nor would we be reluctant to take our babies in for regular checkups. Seriously pets cost more than humans when it comes to wellness and sickness.

    The reasons why I chose pumpkin; two week waiting period, dental illnesses are covered even if you miss an annual dental exam, exam fees are covered if the exam is due to a coverable illness, the preventive essentials pack, hereditary conditions are covered, behavioral issues are covered, prescription food, supplements and virtual vet visits are all covered. The negatives; rate increase with birthdays (4% to 25%), no 24/7 contact availability and the annual max cap is 15,000 for cats. That seems a bit low considering surgeries can easily run into the tens of thousands. Oh, I pay 45 a month for 15K cap and 100 deductible plus the essentials pack. That's a bit expensive.

    I’m surprised Trupanion wasn’t in your top 6. I love that they do Pre-Authorization and Direct Pay so you don’t have to pay the entire balance out of pocket, just the residual amount they don’t cover. They also include Behavioral Medicine, which is the number one reason cats are euthanized with not being able to afford veterinary care being the second.

    • @AllAboutCatsYT
      @AllAboutCatsYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@AllAboutCatsYT True, I was surprised by how low the rates were of some of the other companies. I've worked at a specialty veterinary hospital for 14 years and have always loved the way Trupaion will commit to the estimates so the pet parents can start treatment immediately. Also, I've seen multiple clients with multiple pets make multiple claims without being cancelled, having their rates increased or having any cap on bills. And our bills are commonly over $20,000 for hospitalization for critical patients, oncology or emergency treatments. Trupanion even offers 1 month of free insurance after a vet visit. HOWEVER, I would MUCH rather see ANY insurance than just one particular one. It totally CRUSHES me every time an animal has to be euthanized just because the owners can't afford the medical treatments. We do have a foundation to help (very little but some is better than none) and that's how I've gotten all of my animals - most of which are cats because no one will spend money on cats. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people say, "Well, we can always get another free kitten..." AHHHHHH!!!!!!! I've become a HUGE cat advocate. I find people usually do not understand cat body language to even understand how affectionate and smart these animals truly are. Any way, long rant, but I was so happy to see you do this video. THANK YOU!!! I can't tell you how many people come in and don't even realize that pet insurance exists. But sadly, when they get to my hospital, it's too late to sign up for insurance because it's preexisting at that point. I wish EVERY day practice would offer pet insurance in their puppy and kitten packages.

    I made the mistake of told my vet that my new cat had a slight diarrhea during the initial exam back in Jan 2024. 4 months later, Lemonade used that against me and wiggled their way out of reimbursement when my cat had another diarrhea + vomiting episode, probably from me switch food on her too fast. Lemonade does not accept the fact that diarrhea is only a symptom of variety of different illnesses or conditions. It's not a pre-existing condition. Pre-existing condition is cancer, genetic defects, kidney failures...etc. NOT DIARRHEA, but of course Lemonade knows that...or maybe they don't.
    If my cat gets into the trash and eats spoiled meat, she will get diarrhea. Is that pre-existing condition? The claim adjuster "Christina" said the good news is that after one year of no diarrhea, the condition is considered CURED!!! Hey Lemonade, this is a good way to piss your customers off. Already complained to BBB, as soon as I find another insurance, I am kicking this Lemonade Stand to the curb.

The app also makes things super easy and claims are a breeze. I am one of those people who will do all the tests and things that the vet recommends during my cats annual appointment and the wellness add on has helped a lot with that. With the recent annual he just had, I'm only paying like $60 more a year for the insurance plus what I had to pay at the vet vs if I had no insurance. Much less than what you were quoted. The thing I love about Trupanion is that for the entire time you have them insured, you pay the premium for the same age bracket as your pet was when you first insured them. So, when my cats are 15, I'll still be paying the kitten rate. Of course, it'll be higher than it is now but that'll be because of rising prices, not their age.

    This is great 👍🏽 do you have a air purifier review ? I want something to improve the air with my cat.

    • @cabot100
      @cabot100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Years ago, we bought a Blueair classic 605 series air purifier. It is relatively large so consider how much space you have to devote to an air purifier. The company Blueair makes various models that are of different sizes. The filters are costly but work well. The manufacturer recommends changing the filters every six months. Our house is a large open floorplan with a kitchen-great room area where we spend a lot of time, and so do the cats. Off of this part of the house is a half bath where the litter pan is located. Rarely would a visitor notice any litter pan odors. We had two Tonkinese that did not shed a lot, and they did not seem to have much dander. When you change the filters, it is surprising to see how much was trapped in the filters. This unit has run basically nonstop twenty-four hours a day, mostly in the middle setting for almost twenty years. We raised the cats from the age of four weeks. One lived to be sixteen, and the other passed just shy of nineteen years old. The air purifier still runs like new. The air purifier we have does accumulate cat hair, and the fan is enclosed for safety, so it can be a challenge to vacuum out all the cat hair at the time you are cleaning it when you change the filters. I figured out if I take the unit out on the driveway to clean it and use high-pressure air from a shop vac, a blower for drying off a car, or even a powerful leaf blower is often adequate to dislodge the cat hair you can't reach with a vacuum nozzle. Over the years, we have raised many litters of kittens in the great room area for a local rescue. Even with multiple litter pans and a house full of little poop machines, the purifier adequately seems to deal with it. My advice is to read the online reviews; there are many, decide how much you are willing to spend, the capacity/size of the unit that makes sense for your home, and your needs. Figure the cost of changing the filters at least every six months. Sometimes you can get them to go longer, but calculate that in your decision-making and evaluate how easy it is to clean and change the filters. Generally, the manufacturers have specifications of how much air their units filter, how large a space each model is designed for, and the size particles the unit is designed to filter out of the air. Another important thing to consider is how loud the unit will be if it is in a room that you spend a lot of time in or in a bedroom where some white noise might be okay for sleeping, but loud noise would be disruptive. Read reviews from people who have purchased units you are considering and see what, if any, negative experiences people have had. Better air purifiers are costly. You want to make sure you are confident that you are buying the best suits your needs.

    The rates where misleading because the host of this channel did not disclose what age she used in her fictitious cat example, those rates for all of the companies are unrealistic low, I can assure you, if you go for the maximum coverage, lowest deductible, for a feline senior citizen, the rates are going to be much higher than that for any of those companies.
    I have Nationwide for my cat’s insurance, they are a mutual insurance company, one advantage to a mutual insurance when they do rate increases they don’t get as outrageous as corporate insurance companies, and Nationwide does have a Vet Help line, it’s a phone line.
    Nationwide has two different plans, Major Medical which is a benefit schedule plan, and Whole Pet with Wellness, Whole Pet is the best of the two, and yes wellness service services are included in the coverage for that plan.

I feel locked in using them because my cat has developed a condition so if I switched it would be pre-existing with the new insurance( if that's how it works). Also, after trying to get some quotes the pricing is not that different ($5 or so for less coverage) so idk if it's worth the change. I use Pets Best.

    Just feed your cats a healthy Raw diet, and keep them Hydrated like they do naturally in the wild. You never have to visit the veterinarian.

      I didn't care for Trupanion's per-condition deductible, and I couldn't find any case in which it might end up being a better deal than the competition.

    • @jennie9
      @jennie9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The good thing about the per condition deductible with Trupanion, though, is that it isn't a yearly deductible. Once you pay the deductible limit for that condition, you never have to pay it again. At least, that's the case in Canada. It works well if you have a cat with an ongoing medical condition but not so much if your cat suffers from a bunch of different things. My elderly cat is on PetPlan and the $1000 deductible is reset every year. This is the first year that I've ever gotten reimbursed from them. I only keep the insurance because I don't want to be forced into euthanizing her when expensive medical treatment could keep her healthy and happy for longer.

    Help! I just took my cat in to the emergency room vet and ended up paying $900 for the basic blood tests ect. They couldn't find anything and gave me an estimate for over $4k for x-rays and ultrasounds. I can't afford this and now I'm sitting in my apartment with a sick cat. I'm tapped out.....what should I do??

    • @drcornelius8275

      @@kurtreber9813 I found a vet way out in a country town who, after giving her an exam and looking at the previous testing, gave my cat a super shot of antibiotics. Total bill was $85. In a day she was noticeably better and after a week back to normal. She is still doing great! It was a real spot to be in and I was advised by many to let her go. Vets are way too expensive in the city, and I'll never go that route again. Vets have turned into a money-making scam here and they only care about money, not your pet.

    I have nothing to do with Trusted Pals in the way of payments for endorsement or employment, but I just have to say:
    The best pet insurance, I think, is Trusted Pals because of their wellness portion of their insurance. After you pay your bill you'll get reimbursed $750 minus your deductible and they'll pay you 80% of that.
    The thing about Trusted Pals is they don't have their wellness portion of their insurance broken down into what they'll pay (like all the other pet insurance companies) i.e. dental cleaning $150.00, vaccines $50, blood work $60, microchip $30, flea problem $40.00 etc. (these are just examples) AND you have to pay a monthly amount for this limited wellness plan that really isn't a wellness plan at all. It's a scam. Many people's pets don't need some of these because they're coming on board with their pet already microchipped, etc. and they have an indoor cat etc.
    Trusted Pals wellness portion pays for the necessary annual wellness checkups, dental cleaning, blood tests, vaccines, microchip... whatever your vet deems necessary. It's not broken down into all these categories that they'll only pay for.
    The bill for the wellness check of our cat was about 50% less and he got the necessary care he needed; dental cleaning, dental radiographs, anesthesia, blood work etc.
    His maximum coverage is $8,000 annually and his monthly premium is for us a manageable $57 dollars monthly. ,It did go up a little bit from last year, but what else is new?
    He was already microchipped from the shelter and he's an indoor cat. He never has a flea problem.
    It's their wellness portion that is, to my way of thinking, pretty fair. That's the most important part. Annual checkups. There should be no barriers to this. Catching a disease or health problem early with blood work and exams is key.
    Trusted Pals priorities regarding our cat's health care is in the right place.

    • @kurtreber9813
      @kurtreber9813 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So you're saying you like Trusted Pals even though their wellness plan is a scam? I'm confused

    • @8sun52
      @8sun52 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kurtreber9813 Hi. Shopping around I realized all the wellness plans were broken down into different categories and the amount they would pay. And their plans were about an additional amount of $12.00-$15.00/monthly...about. So unless you use every one or almost every one of those categories for your pet, you'll be losing money or just breaking even. I explained this above. Trusted Pals Wellness Plan is not broken down into separate categories. Maybe I shouldn't have used the word scam against other pet insurance, in that sense. I just got lazy that time with my thinking. It's out in the open to see so it's not a scam in that sense. BTW TP is taking no new policies. They'll be closing down soon or already did.
      One thing really important. Most pet Insurance (and insurance generally I think) first subtract the deductible from the bill and take the percentage (80%, 90% or whatever) of that to yield the payout to the policy holder.
      There's one pet insurance that does it the opposite, multiplying the percentage times the bill and then subtracting the deductible. Doing it this way, the payout is significantly less. This pet insurance company advertises all the additional perks they offer. But their calculation method is actually offsetting the additional costs of their "additional perks".
      I guess a lot of people don't know any better and are not informed in this area of insurance. I called up some pet insurance actuaries and they said there's no legal requirements for these computations.
      Take care...

      Hi Diana, thanks for the comment. While I'm aware that it's a popular insurance company and have recommended it in the past, I didn't find that Healthy Paws offered a strong array of benefits over the other providers on this list in 2021. It's still a decent choice, but I couldn't find its edge over the others recommended here. This decision was not based on affiliate partnerships, though. @Nexium I'm sorry for not responding to every comment-I used to be proud to reply to every comment on the channel, but it's become more difficult as we've grown. :/

Years and boy did their service,,especially customer appreciation service go down the tubes,,,was paying 204.00 plus with a 150.00$ Canadian deductible,,,in order to get the price of my dogs steroids at ( the time anyway) ..48$,,UP to that 150.00 deductible,,I figured I should add it up slowly each time I bought his meds,,but no,,,you are supposed to send in the claim for the medication Each and every time you purchase or go to the vet,,,anyway,,I sent in 11 claim forms my poor vet had to fill them all out,,I figured if I sent in Over the deductible amount it would be smarter idea,,, so after 48.00 times 11 PETWATCH so kindly sent me a cheque of 7.04$ Canadian. I was so shocked and livid ,,I immediately called them up,,,I said I felt like no longer using them and they answered back. OK and hung up...I was left holding my phone calling out Hello.Hello?? You all tell me what’s wrong with this story and picture...
