  • I'm playing D-Day at Peleliu, a solitaire game by John Butterfield published by Decision Games. This video is an introduction to the game, where I talk about the historical battle and provide an overview of how the game works before we actually get started. Turn 1 starts in the next video!

I just got mine in the mail, thank you very much for the introduction and the history behind. I can't wait to get started, looks real thrilling. If I manage, this will be my first solitaire wargame (not counting Space Empires 4X)

Well the history presented is a little off. The island sat along the supply routes from Hawaii to New Zealand and the Philippines, so it wasn’t that the Japanese might launch a counteroffensive into McArthur’s flank, it was a threat to his supply lines. The controversy still exists as to whether it was enough of a threat to justify the cost of taking it.

Yes,why it couldnt just be isolated and left to rot. There were a few instances where Marine generals were a bit over keen to show off their "boys".In a sense,MacArthur and Nimitz could simply have isolated the entire Philippines, and not bother invading.Built up forces to invade Japan instead.

After a Peleliu Game , I want to design a game for a Chinese invasion of Taiwan set for March 2023
with research of formations that are on the island - support elements from Japan and the United States
and forces the Chinese would send along with the Taiwanese military and civilian resistance.
