    Not only was Stevie clean and sober for a few years before he died, he actually helped many people get clean and sober after he became clean. He helped fans, friends and even his own brother reach sobriety. John Mayer said he grew up never touching drugs or alcohol because of Stevie's influence. Stevie had that kind of inspiration on people. He was a kind and humble man who will be forever missed.

    Like folks are saying, he was clean and sober from late 1986 until his passing in 1990. He lived and breathed Sobriety, and was always ready to help others. Love your reactions to Stevie. He was as kind, gentle and humble as he was talented. I was lucky enough to spend time with him. Precious memories. Donna G

      you should hear SRV’s songs, Lenny (live at El Mocambo) and then I had to think of Jeff Beck, watch out, but Riviera Paradise is so, so gorgeous. (live from Austin). speaking of finesse.

    If you’re implying that his death was from drugs and/or alcohol, you’re incorrect. He was several years clean and sober when he died in a helicopter crash.

    I had this on DVD, there also was a special with just the out takes and they were amazing. Watched so much it drove my wife crazy. Oh and his tone on this song was just growling...GOOD GOD Y'ALL.

    Somebody poked a wild beehive in this song and SRV is what's inside the hive. Warning sounds... anger stirred... poke, poke. Some fool messing around has stoked glowing coals with a dry stick. Leave my girl alone, SRV says, and he means it. Just by the sound, you know the fury's rising.. and clearly something's about to burst forth in defense! Look out! Like angry bees, the notes swarm out in waves of rage and attack! Guitar genius! Utter genius.

    Also, realizing that these phenomenal performances came from one particular concert is hard to fathom.
    Is this his most powerful set? Clean mind here.

    Clapton said he had to think about where he was going but SRV never did. It just came to him. Paraphrased of course.

    There's a couple good short biographies here on YT about SRV. They're worth checking out. One is Rise of a Texas Bluesman and it's pretty great. The other is part of the "Legends" series.

    Stevie did not die from booze and drugs. He was clean and sober. Beautiful heart that he had, he helped others achieve the same.
    He tragically died in a helicopter crash, August 27, 1990. Sad, sad day. 😥

      Stevie Ray's gift is from God. The 👿is powerless before the righteous.

    • @ccrowe256
      @ccrowe256 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stevie credited his talent to God. He was actually a very spiritual person. In stranded in the crossfire the lyrics talk about people being ruthless with each other, and then he says “ whatever happened to the golden rule?” He meant that.

    Easy now from the gallery - easy mistake - remember this is one of like 100 musicians any reactor is listening to so not getting his exact life story right is a fair mistake. SRV was clean as a whistle and an inspiration to thousands to get and stay clean for the last 5 years of his life - those little temptations almost did take him out but it was a foggy helicopter ride and freaking stupid ski hills in Wisconsin that did - like seriously - who is/needs/does skiing in Wisconsin. Screw all of you and anyone who has ever put on ski's or snowboarded in the state of Wisconsin - it is a ridiculous concept and took away this gift of pure light energy and soul and musical perfection from the world. Unbelievable. I am starting it #neverskiwisconsin. Sorry - woah - got a little angry at random people in a state I will visit once in my life - to vandalize the first ski resort I find. The fact such a random event stole this genius from us as one of the rare honest to goodness life turned right stories in Rock, makes it all the more crushing even thinking about it 30 years later. It's all good though man - I just love that you love him my brother.

      truly one in a million - and I actually knew he had perished in a helicopter , not sure what I was thinking if I mentioned he passed from drugs...hmmmm maybe I was on some...

      @dreww1609 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ReactionsbyD Yeah man, I figured - I wanted to send a pre-emptive note to all the comment warriors who might not be even keeled enough to cut you slack. Many of us who have struggled with addiction AND idolize Stevie - part of it relates to this very path of his life, so take it so seriously, but we are all friends here. And man - it is a really interesting conversation as some of his playing when in the height of his addiction was so intense and raw and flawless - it is different to post 1985 and yeah arguably better in some cases and others not. I'd love to hear you react here to a version of "Tin Pan Alley" you can find on a live set they included as 10 extra songs on the "Texas Flood" reissue Legacy Edition that is like - if not one of the most incredible recorded tracks I've ever heard in all of electric blues - and that was pre-recovery...I'm not sure what human can ever be better. It would be really cool if you choose to review it - the album again is the Texas Flood 'Legacy Edition' and the entire live set is INSANE - clearly from the same set he toured to film all of the "El Mocambo" videos, and every song he CRUSHES but "Tin Pan Alley" in particular.

    Little known facts... one... yes he sounds like Jimmi Hendrix... that's cuase he's...
    1. Using Jimis whawha pedal! They were Great friends! His family gave it to him!
    2. Jimi played a right hand guitar lefthanded! Therefore his whammy bar was on top! Stevie put his on top too!
    3. Sadly he joined the GOATS club by passing way too soon! Like him and jimi there's also Randy Rhoads!
