Ashlena, Angelina has spent quite a bit of time with Toby Gad recently. They performed this song together 4 times and then Angelina released a music video, showing her walking around London. The most exciting news is, Toby and Angelina have been working on new original songs. We have heard one new song, "Bad Valentine" and James Thiel got permission from Toby to upload a performance of it. "Bad Valentine" is awesome and has great potential of becoming a hit, once it is officially released.

Angelina stole this. Angelina is so much more than any other singer
Toby Gad is a multi Grammy award winning songwriter and producer. He has worked with many of the biggest superstars in the music industry producing award-winning hits. He has recently produced an album of his top songs called Piano Diaries. He invited Angelina to perform If I Were a Boy with him at piano. This song was originally made famous by Beyoncé in 2008, and has received over 600 million views. Most believe Angelina's version is much more intimate and emotional, and she has made it hers. Move over Beyoncé! It is more of a reimagining than a cover.
Toby and Angelina also have been working on some original music, the first of which is a pre-release. Bad Valentine is a jazzy, soulful, and powerful song that is perfectly suited for Angelina's voice. I think it has great potential to be a hit! Toby Gad is very influential in the industry and this undoubtedly is a huge break for Angelina.

Toby Gad’s Piano Diaries album was released May 31. It features Angelina on this song and other artists on other songs that he cowrote.
This performance was at an event at the Palladium in London. It honored songwriters and Gad was one of the guests. They also performed the song a few days later at the IVORS awards in London.
Gad will also have a concert for charity June 20 called Piano Diaries live. It is assumed that Angelina will be there.
Additional info on the song background. Gas was writing songs with BC Jean, the girl he mentioned, for Jean’s debut album. Her record company rejected the demo they did and when her record deal fell though Gad marketed the songs they wrote to established artists. Beyoncé liked If I Were a Boy and recorded it with Gad coproducing the song.
There was a short livestream with Toby in which Angelina says they met through her publisher. She has been meeting many of the best in music writing. (I was the guy yelling in the audience. James had to cut me off in the video after the first yell.)

Unfortunately, we’ve been experiencing historic Angelina for years. She needs new management to help her along. I believe it’s a family affair. Her mother and her uncle are managing her and Grandma is producing. This is probably why you haven’t heard anything on the radio from her. I hope she moves on and flies out and about on her own terms. She’s 18 now and should make her own decisions.
Her command of low resonance singing is beyond that of any female artist I have ever experienced.
And when you combine it with her ability to slide up, up, up in range and do it in a jazz infused style
of perfection that is reminiscent of her musical mentor, the great Billie Holiday, she just mesmerizes
anyone listening to her.
They did a livestream performance of this at the Ivors awards with Amazon music. Afterwards they were interviewed and in it Angelina said that they met through her publisher Sony. Apparently her record label Republic Records is separate from her publisher which is Sony. That's all I know about their meeting but in the interview he said that Angelina's version was better than Beyonce's. You can tell that he is very enamored by her talent.

You should watch one of the videos, preferably the piano diaries version in the church... at least on your own;) Her voice is magical. Of course watch their new original Bad Valentine. Maybe the best she's done. Get's my vote, and it's just a raw unreleased version as of now.
The two fully produced videos are on her YT Official channel. The Piano Diaries version (intended for Toby Gad's album of the same name) is set in a church with stirring piano and strings. For this project he selected eight of his best songs, choosing newer, lesser known artists to re-imagine his music. There is another version (official video) of this - more up-tempo/pop - with her walking the streets of London. He seems to be really enjoying his time with AJ, creating new music.

You freeze ... endlessly listening to her wonderful and powerful voice and admiring her fantastic musical sensitivity, even the simplest song that passes through her hands becomes fantastic. She is simply unique and with a wonderful melodic perception. This live interpretation (not a cover for me) with one of the authors of the song (Toby Gad) playing the piano, is curative for the your soul and the soft background accompaniment of the piano and cello give her a beautiful silky backdrop, until that wonderful whispered final phrase "... but you are just a boy".💛🧡❤

Toby answered a fan question in comments that he had seen her on Got Talent, and then wanted to work with her. He didn't specify which one, I assume it was on AGT. In Nov 2021, he commented on one of her TikToks with "One of a kind! Amazing."
They did a backstage performance/interview at the IVORS Awards, where Angelina said that she got contacted via her publishing company, Sony/AVT, apparently for writing originals with him. They have several in the pipeline, and already presented a live preview in a small venue for Bad Valentine. I'll try to give a link to that in a reply to this comment.

I agree with you.. but being an Angelina fan I think her songs need to be on the radio! She should be at the top of every list on the radio. Unfortunately, if she’s not we will keep experiencing her on these TH-cam videos for another 10 years. I’m thinking she needs different management that will work to promote her. I don’t think her uncle and mother are not doing it.

Angelinas publishing company sony , recommended Angelina .I believe he checked out some of her performances , and he was impressed . Angelina and toby are working on new material , they have written a new song called " bad valentine " to be officially released in about 2 months , but Toby has given james thiel permission to post the live performance in a small venue recently .

It amazes me that people keep saying this is cover. I disagree. When the singer and the composer jam together to create a new interpretation of a song is is NOT a cover.
A cover only in the sense that what Beyoncé made was a cover of the song written by BC Jean and Toby Gad, originally performed by Jean in 2008. Beyoncé's cover was that same year.
In this video the pianist is Toby Gad .. the Piano Diaries are a celebration of his hit songs. He invited Angelina to England with him to perform .. this is the fifth(?) version I have heard. I am not sure if it is really a cover when a singer is standing next to the composer as they jam to create a different version of the song.

There are actually two official releases of this song with Toby and Angelina, superior quality to this. One is in a London Cathedral, the other is Angelina walking the streets of London (different upbeat sound track) .... this one is decent, other two are much much better quality than this cell phone recording. Maybe check them out Ash.

I prefer this ending. She concludes the song with a mocking huff at the very end of “boy” (which Beyoncé doesn’t do) which produces an emotional gut punch after all the emotional buildup of her performance. Tacking on a little piano after that would have diminished the effect.
