    I used the part 14041 from the help parts at Pep Boys. Cost less than $7.00 all I took was the air plastic hose off to get room. Very helpful video to locate the problem.I twisted the cable and put a small screw driver in the bottom hole of rubber bushing and it pop out. Tap the new plastic bushing 2 smallest in pack with back of screwdriver. then used small vice grips to put pin into hole.

    Pontiac was a GM brand, not Toyota.
    Anyway, I initially held the shift linkage on with a plastic zip tie after the bushing rotted away on my car three years ago. I was going to replace the bushing, but I decided just to upgrade the plastic zip tie to a steel zip tie and call it done.

      Believe it or not Toyota was the dealership where you would buy genuine Pontiac parts when this video was made.

    2001 Cavalier, part 14041 2nd smallest bushing worked. I had to loosen the power steering to be able to use my adjustable pliers to squeeze the ball into the bushing.

    Very useful! I cannot find the one that will work though. I have it put together with rubber bands just to get it back home, but need to get it fixed right asap. Which bushing did the 2005 take?

      If I remember correctly the HELP part 14041 is a single bushing. The Clutch-In brand had an assortment. It is best if you had at least a piece of the old bushing to compare shape. But the 14041 should work. You may notice the plastic bushing will fit into the "cup" end of the transmission cable but you have to press the bushing onto the "rounded pin" end of the lever. I had to use large channel lock pliers to squeeze/snap/press that cup with bushing onto the pin. It took some maneuvering.

      Couldn't seem to get one of them to work, but did connect the cable via rubber bands so that we could get it home and then into a shop without having to pay a tow fee. Thanks!

    There are several, if not dozens of videos on how to replace the cable/bushing, (I mention that in my discription). But NO ONE, not even a auto parts store can/will give you the part number. THERE IS NO PART NUMBER, this bushing is NOT sold as a Sunfire trans. cable replacement bushing. No one on TH-cam, Pontiac or Auto Zone knew the parts numbers I supplied, would work. If you used my part # information, I just saved you $200 on the cable and $200 labor.... you're welcome. 2 mins. vs. $400

    Dorman part # 14055 is the replacement bushing. A single bushing rather than a variety so likely cheaper.

    I am not sure why you say this part isn't specific to 2005 Pontiac Sunfire when I had no trouble buying the shift cable bushing.

      The bushing for the shifting cable doesn't exist as a part from the dealership and an auto parts store doesn't have a reference to look it up. But the dealership will sell you the entire cable assembly. The bushing I used is from an assortment pack for windshield wiper arm bushing.

      I did not buy a shift cable bushing. they do not sell a shift cable bushing for this particular car. I bought an assortment pack of bushing. The busing I used for the repair was the busing for any number of windshield wiper arm to wiper motor spline. It just happen to work as a transmission cable bushing for this year Pontiac.

      Ermagherd.DUDE this BUSHING KIT IS AVAILABLE AT ADVANCE AUTO.So do not dis someone & say it is NOT BUYABLE because it is. I KNOW IT'S HARD FOR YOU TO BELIEVE THAT A WOMAN CAN BUY PARTS & SELF INSTALL THEM WITHOUT *GASP* THE HELP OF A MAN, BUT WE DO.

    • @808breaksbad.
      @808breaksbad.  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please reread the posts. The assortment KIT IS available to purchase as a Bushing Assortment pack. BUT the assortment KIT is not dedicated to be the replacement bushing for this particular transmission shifter cable. One in the assortment kit just happens to fit. Go to a Pontiac dealership part department or any parts store, NAPA, Auto Zone and SPECIFICALLY ask for a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire automatic transmission shifter cable bushing. They do not have such a PART, BUT you can buy a bushing kit off the shelf (made for windshield wiper arms) with a bushing in THAT kit that happens to fit the transmission cable. Which was in the original description

      I asked SPECIFICALLY FOR A BUSHING KIT FOR THE 2005 PONTIAC SUNFIRE for the shift cable. That is EXACTLY WHAT I received. Please do not talk down to me as though I am ignorant.

      You are correct. you don't need to buy the whole shifting cable or even the variety assortment pack. If you have the original one you could probably do a march up at the parts store and get one that is the same. I got one that was for a wiper arm that was exactly like the trans bushing.

    Not helpful at all. Stop cluttering youtube with this crap. I'm trying to find help on how to replace it not on what the part number is. There is no reason this had to be a two minute video. You could have typed up one sentence: "use help brand part number 14041 to replace the shifter bushing." I'm looking for a description on how to replace it.....
