Also, with the technique usually used, needing actually two donors, where the cloned organism has basically its parents DNA in the nucleus, with the exception of mitochondrial DNA, which stays in the cell of the other donor (a vessel if you will), it's not hard to believe that Dib would be a significant bit different from Membrane. So yes, aliens are still less believable.

Because jhonen said he may have ended up making Dib a clone if the show had continued. But he was still undecided whenever Nickelodeon cancelled it. So this was almost canon.
Well it's like the unaired episode "mopiness of doom" where dib decides to become a real scientist and Zim doesn't feel motivated to do his evil stuff anymore without dib watching. Kinda like doctor doofinshmirtz in Phineas and Ferb where he actually enjoys showing his evil inventions to Perry and then it exploding in his face like a routine
