Thank you again for letting us all know not to give up on gardening. I've had a garden for over 40 years and I have learned so much from you and Gary and you're right, I count the days until Spring. Your idea of totes on chairs was one of the best for this old timer. I love it. I've always fed the hummers, but now by making the bird fountains, I'm out in the wet cold weather making sure my other birds eat--and I'm so much calmer and happier. I feed the birds and they eat the bugs-win, win. The tulle really works! Thank you again for everything. Stay well and have a wonderful Holiday season.
Omg Cattle Dog puppy at 4:10!!! ❤❤❤❤❤. I miss our Indigo. She’s been gone quite a few years now, we were glad to have her for 15. It is such a delight to spy yours occasionally in the videos😊. Thank you Robbie and Gary for all you do😊
Gary so loves his Cattle Dogs here! I must get them in the videos more, they are with him all the time ❤️ Gary’s first Cattle Dog here was Rex, he almost made it to 20 years old, and we miss him so much, I know how you feel about your Indigo❤️❤️❤️ Sending You Love💕
This is the second year in a row that I have seen dark eyed Junco returned to my winter garden, it's so amazing to see them, especially because my garden is done until April.
Oh wow, we use to have them here, and then they disappeared for years. But this year I got a photograph of one in the bird garden so I know they’re still around. They are beautiful!
Somehow the squirrels and chipmunks around here are no longer afraid of the tulle I’ve been using to protect my plants. Over the past 3-4 years, I followed Robbie's suggestions, setting up fences around my totes and pots. But a couple of years ago, I started noticing that some of the tulle fences were torn, and my plants had been dug up or uprooted. To solve this, I doubled up the tulle and used more clothespins to secure it tightly around the totes. Even so, the little critters managed to tear through and get to the plants. We have three bird feeders that we keep filled year-round, and the squirrels and chipmunks enjoy the seeds that fall to the ground. Yet, they still manage to “steal” my tomatoes and sweet peppers, and get into my totes and pots 🙁 Recently, I started using chicken wire to build raised covers for some of the totes, as well as a cylinder tub that fits over a round pot. These methods seem to be deterring the animals for now, although they’re very time-consuming. Each cover needs to be customized for the individual totes (I got them from a thrift store, so they’re all different sizes and shapes).
Tulle and raised containers were my game changers. My challenge now is how full my compost tote has become 😂! I’m thrilled though that the birds are snacking on the goodies in there. 🐦 Have a great weekend!
Tulle has made all the difference! Thank you! Im going with dark purple this month to finish setting up my raised beds the rest have light purple. Adding fountains brought the birds in to eat the bugs! THANK YOU! Im blessed with returning garden huckleberry which acts as a catch crop for squash bugs that attract the birds. They miss a few bugs but the squash bugs prefer the garden huckleberry to the squash so much they stay there and dont bother my squash. Im on a mission to outsmart the vine borers starting with growing sooner in the season. I already have squash seeds going in tiny paper cups another excellent idea! Keep em coming Robbie ad Gary!
I feed my birds because, Im not going to stop feeding my feathers friends, I rather stop gardening then to stop feeding my birds.😂 Robbie you have a beautiful garden for birds and vegetables I love how you share your ideas whether is for the garden or the bird bath and feeders so because of you I’m more and more getting your ideas of thrifting and going to Dollar tree. Thank you. Robbie are you having a live Christmas celebration like last year? I’m looking forward to it. ❤
Glad we can give you ideas, and like you I love watching the birds here. I’ll see maybe we will for Christmas, because it’s just gonna be Gary and I since our Christmas party is tomorrow.❤
Hi Robbie and Gary. It's just too cold to plant right now. My garden will start again in Feb, I do still have a few things growing but most of my seeds will be planted later. You are so lucky to be able to garden all year. I love seeing your green plants while I'm waiting for spring.
Let me assure you, that what we’re having here is really unusual. Usually during the holiday season everybody comes over and they’re freezing, and we have to get the fireplace going. Now everybody’s looking for air conditioning pretty much. I have seen this before it’s not that common but this year right now yes we’ve been in the 80s. I do feel that by January, I think things are going to change and it could change big time😮

I do feel that by January, I think things are going to change and it could change big time😮 I’ll tell you the truth, I think this weather is all my fault. This year I went and invested and bought a new heater for our back room. Because I bought the heater that’s why our weather is warm and I haven’t had to turn it on; it’s like washing your car and then it rains. It’s one of those things.😂❤
What I deal with are the squash vine borers, and cabbage moths. This year for my fall garden brassicas I'm using tulle around (and on top) my cattle panel area that I have my brassicas planted in to keep cabbage moths out. In spring 2025, I will do the same thing for the squash plants, and then hand pollinate them. I bought the turquoise tulle that you/Robbie spoke about. Thanks! From Texas❤🤠❤
I love the turquoise tulle too, works great especially to keep those cabbage moths out. Now it can work for your squash bugs, but I’m going to talk about it very soon because if it’s not done right, you could end up with them again in your plants take care, thanks
Hi Robbie, I am enjoying your videos very much. Just to share, I am pretty certain your House Finches are what we call in Australia Sparrows. I used to have a lot of sparrows and Silver Eyes but a drought brought in a LOT of native Noisy Minors & they chase the little birds away. Going to have to get some very prickly natives that the little ones can escape to, the larger birds do not like the spikes. 😃🎄🇦🇺
The House Sparrows and your Sparrows are pretty much the same. Our House Finches nest in open cup nest, and the male has red coloring. Sounds like adding in prickly plants may bring in some more of your small birds, good idea.❤️
We have insects, deer, raccoons, squirrels, coyote, rabbits, possum, woodchucks, birds...gosh I might have missed something that visits our yard. Have had good luck putting geraniums around to keep insects away but last year I had to pull everything inside in pots and grew what I could in my sunroom. The greens did the best in my stacked dollar tree planters
Great video! My "pests" are the feral kittens I "adopted" because they were starving & I just couldn't let them starve, lol. But they just dig in some of my containers because I purchased some small containers for them to defecate in & they work perfectly. But they smell the fresh potting soil or compost & dig in it, so during the winter, I use plastic which also creates a warm environment for the plants. In the summer, tulle & plastic fencing works fantastic. I do cover my compost pile with a heavy tarp to keep them out of that. I definitely would recommend tulle for anyone that needs a little help & the $10 for 40 yards is the best price I have seen. Thank you for this video. Can't wait to read the comments! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year ❤
Robbie I'm a Big fan of yours and your garden. I live in Southern California also. Apple Valley. I just lucked up on totes $1 for the 18gallon size. I've already begun to fill them with food scraps and leaves. I would like to plant tree collards, can't find them in my area. can you tell me where I can find them or Do you sell cuttings? thanks
Thank you for the vidéo I have with a skunk or ground hog that live underneith my bal ont lady summer I planted a 3 gallons of Beckies flower I never saw one b’ooming they ate my Flowers I have to find something to circle them that is my biggest problem
That is my auger on a simple drill that has a rechargeable battery, yes you can buy them in Australia. It’s just a light weight drill 😊 and it works great. ❤
Slugs are a pain, and that’s why I don’t use a lot of cardboard on the top of my compost, or grow in cardboard. Some people add cardboard on the top around their plants, but the cardboard separates and creates spaces for slugs to hide in. If you’ve got certain plants that you really have to save, you can wrap them in tulle. They won’t cross copper, but that can start getting expensive.❤
Something keep eating all the leaves off my pepper plants. I have coveraged them with tulle and they still get eaten. I don't see anything around other than slugs on the outside of the pot. It's so frustrating
It might be slugs, you have to make sure the tulle is fully covering the plants, including all sides and the top. You may have slugs hiding inside your pots.
Oh My, Thank you again for Another Super Thanks❤!❤ this is so greatly appreciated, but never expected. You have a very Merry Christmas, and again thank you for the super thanks again. ❤❤❤❤

Insect eaters are the MVP of the garden

CPG in Norwalk usually has them, you can give them a call. Right now we are not shipping, and Apple Valley is not close to us, see if that works.

You know you can try tulle and see if that works, It’s cheap enough to start with. ❤️
❤
❤❤❤
Wild sunflower are like grow bird seeds
Yes 😊
My plants are in a rise flower bed I would have to put something that hold the tulle
There is a lot of ways to put tulle on even in a raise bed, go through and look at some of my videos I use all kinds of unusual cheap things
Robbie, that tool with the auger attached, that you are using to drill a hole. What is it? Can you get them in Australia?
I think she was using a drill, but not 100% sure. She has a video of her using it.

Hi, Gary is going very well ❤ Thank You, Happy Holidays to You too, thanks again
What do you do for beetles that come at night! They eat my herbs from the top down. Help

❤ Hi Dolly
1
A quick one today😊
Here in wisconsin it's moles that drive me nuts.
That really is an easy fix, all you have to do is get everything elevated at least your vegetable plants❤️ Thanks
Gophers are the worse because they kill trees 🌳 and plants 🪴
They are one of the easiest to keep out of the a garden if you use totes or buckets
Thanks!
