Non-linearity isn't the only way to make a game. We have enough metroidvanias. Difficulty isn't the only way to be engaging. Not every game needs to be 30 h long. Plucky Squire is a nearly perfect version of the game that was marketed.
Agree with Nick about Plucky Squire. It barely lets you play the game and when it does it’s profoundly easy. And lasts 4 seconds before more story time.
Glad someone said it. Horizon as a franchise is crazy overrated imo. Cool setting, beautiful graphics, but boring story with a insanely boring protagonist, and the game just flat out gets repetitive.
Final Fantasy just has a bloated budget because they have superfluous mechanics. Cut down on story, mini-games, and keep the concept of growing your characters front and center.
Is Sam an only child? Dude's always interrupting everyone like his opinion is more valuable. Show some manners brother and let people finish their thoughts. Outside of that great podcast as always.
This is an odd year to complain about lack of variety from Sony when this year you get Helldivers 2, Astrobot, Concord, and later Lego Horizon Adventures not even mentioning their other stuff that came out beyond first party.
Working real hard to be contrarion, but not hard enough to not list a game that was literally pulled from storefronts a week after launch due to it being a colossal failure. It's important to call out companies continued failures to deliver the next generation experience gamers were promised. (This is coming from a person who is on all the current gen platforms)
Not surprised to hear Sam hasn't played a lot of the games referenced in Astrobot , more shocking he's played any recent games, thought he only played 80s/90s games.
Horizon is one of my favorite series of all time and Aloy is also one of my favorite characters ever. The only negative is the human combat aspect of both games, which is pretty bland. The rest of the gameplay, story and characters are wonderful. Beaten both of them 5+ times each, so definitely a bad take from the scoop crew there, IMO.
The second game did a lot to improve her but she still isn't great. The actress also did a much better job. The dialogue was written better. The first was just all questions.
Horizon had all the ingredients to be an incredible game, but the final outcome in its story delivery is bland. Aloy is boring. The way the characters drone on and on was boring. 52:05
Justin's audio has some issues. The streak is alive.
SAM GOT A MICROPHONE!! WHY DID THAT TAKE SO LONG??!?
Maybe cos we all complained
Always nice to see the dream team of hosts back on my favorite podcast!
The dream team together 🔥

Scoop! Best time of day
Regarding square Enix, nothing ever meets their expectations. Ever.
Thank Goodness You're Here! Is one of the funniest games I've played in a long time.
But are you British?
Daemon Goatfield
need them to check out UFO 50

It’s not that bad, it’s just a lot more linear than your average Zelda. And at least the story is interesting.
"Like old soup" 😂😂😂
"You go into an item and get a dungeon"
-Justin Davis, 2024 😂
Sounds like a Minish Cap reference 😅
Scoop! Have a great weekend everyone!
There IS a Vib-Ribbon bot in Astro Bot, ftr.
Heroes 3 and Journeyman Project both mentioned on Game Scoop? Today is a great day! Although there goes my ideas for 20 questions...
You guys need to try ufo 50
The weirdest turn around for FF16 is when people said they were fine with it being an action RPG now clamoring for a turn based RPG now
Ff8 is the best story in video games!
Anyone else off to watch the FF6 intro? :)
Old soup broke Justin
WAS THE OPENING TO THE SHOW IMAGE FIGHT?!!!
Welcome back to WoW Justin!
Final Fantasy 7 remake and rebirth have the best action/rpg combat ever made imo. It's incredible.
My favorite ape escape is metal gear solid three
Final Fantasy 16 is awesome
They need to make Final Fantasy turn based again. ATB all the way. Also remaster Final Fantasy Tactics
Glad someone said it. Horizon as a franchise is crazy overrated imo. Cool setting, beautiful graphics, but boring story with a insanely boring protagonist, and the game just flat out gets repetitive.
Aphex Twin!!!!!!
Sam is fired up today huh
scoooooooop
Scoop!!!!

Gothic is actually being remade, lol
SCOOP !
Krafton said they didnt save Tango because they thought it would make them money but rather just to save Tango

Justin ever going to actually troubleshoot his audio? This is embarrassing for an official IGN production :(
I've got a great comment for you this week, but first
This is an odd year to complain about lack of variety from Sony when this year you get Helldivers 2, Astrobot, Concord, and later Lego Horizon Adventures not even mentioning their other stuff that came out beyond first party.
Two of those are already finished and done
That's not remotely impressive and hardly serviceable.

A game not doing well doesn't take away from the point of their being variety.
Not surprised to hear Sam hasn't played a lot of the games referenced in Astrobot , more shocking he's played any recent games, thought he only played 80s/90s games.
Does Justin still GAAAAAAASSSSSPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP every other 20 questions question?
The slander towards Horizon is CRAZY
SCRAPE!
GOOP!
Too many clues at the start, so that's another 20 Questions failure. 😛 Poorly job! 🤣
Can y'all stop talking about Astrobot and what is and what isn't in it? We get it's amazing and I'm excited to experience all of that myself soon.
Here me out. It’s a video game podcast.

What does Horizon do that any Ubisoft open world doesn’t offer
I'm getting tired of the beautiful aesthetic games with hum-drum gameplay...
Don’t play them?
Horizon is a wonderful game, but since it's not Zelda or a Metroid, BAD.
50:00 the worst part about Horizon is Aloy. She's a bland, annoying character, poorly written and poorly acted.
The second game did a lot to improve her but she still isn't great. The actress also did a much better job. The dialogue was written better. The first was just all questions.
Why does it feel like Sam and Justin only exist to complain...?
Irony! 😂
