The first thing is to do is to transfer them to bigger pots. The original pots are never big enough to promote good growth. Then mix compost with some grit to give them good drainage as in my video.
@tomsgarden I just read your message. They have dried out. I hope I can salvage them. Where in my patio do I put them? Temperatures drop to 40s, is that why the dried out?
Cheers for the video Tom. I've planted two too close to each other so was checking to see how one would fair in a pot. Good idea with putting the sweet peas around the base, think I'll try that myself. Cheers!
You’re welcome but i have to say that the sweet peas around the base turned out a bit of a disappointment with not many sweet pea flowers so this year i’m going to give that idea a miss. Maybe a different plant combination will do better but good luck if you want to experiment.
You’re welcome. I think it’s called Clematis 'Piilu. It was already growing outside the front of my property i now live at so I carefully dug it up and transferred it into a pot for my rear garden where it looks better by my garden gate.
@tomsgarden you could actually be right. Fantastic clematis as I used to have one but it clashed with my other colours so took it out. Wish i hadnt now haha. Yours looks fantastic there.
Yes you can if your clematis is cold hardy for your climate zone. You could add some mulch (4-6 inches) around the base of the clematis to help too if the winter is particularly harsh. Also check occasionally if the soil is moist because even in winter, potted plants can dry out.
😍 I just bought two small vines. Looking at tips on what to do. I have them in original purchased plastic containers.

I've planted mine with a few marigolds in a plastic pot I'm kinda new to gardening hopefully it works out
Good luck
Thanks for the video. The clematis looks so happy there. May I ask the name of it?

Looks like no transplant shock.. wow. Beautiful.
I didn't think to mix all the soil with rocks just the bottom.

Hi Tom, I live in London. I would like to grow it in a container like you do . How should I overwinter it? Can I leave it in the garden ?

How to take clematis cuttings
How long can you keep it in that pot?
Indefinitely as long as the pot is big enough.
