Good evening! I hope you've had a wonderful day, and I'd like to say a big thank you for helping us reach over 5,500 subscribers :) This evening, we've got a very special walk around one of the most famous points in Britain - John O'Groats, all the way up on the northernmost coast of mainland Scotland!
For some interesting bonus info, you'll notice in the video that the famous John O'Groats signpost marks Land's End as 874 miles away, whereas it's actually been measured as closer to 876 miles - so it's useful to factor in those extra two miles if you're ever making the trip between the two - and best of luck if you do!
I really hope you enjoy this video, and my apologies about the wind at parts of the video - that's the nature of this gorgeous and windswept part of the country!

I did too when making this video! It's a famous place but as you mention its history is not quite as well-known, but it's riveting to find out its role in Scottish history over the centuries :)
Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!

Though a much talked landmark , had never seen before so close and full of details. Let´s Walk made available to us.

That's so kind of you to say! John O'Groats is often thought of as a far-flung place, and rightly so, but there really is quite a wealth of history when you visit - and I'm so glad you enjoyed seeing and learning about John O'Groats in detail :)
Thank you so much for watching and commenting as always - it's always wonderful to hear from you!

I was there in September 2021 and I would not not describe the bus service as frequent. There needs to be much better connections with the trains at either Wick or Thurso.

I suppose so - for a major attraction one may expect more regular buses, but then again up at the peak of Great Britain things can be quite a little more sparse :) It's still very much worth the visit as I'm sure you can agree from going a couple of months ago!

The Orcadians wouldn't take kindly to your referring to them as the Orkneys. They would use Orkney or the Orkney Islands

Oh no! Thank you very much for pointing that out - I'll make sure not to make that mistake in future, it's always helpful to learn things like that :)
Thank you for watching too - I do hope you enjoyed the video!

According to " An outline of English Literature" by Thornley and G.Roberts, published by Longman, edition 1992, p.43 " (...) No actresses appeared on the Elizabethan stages. The parts of girls were taken by men (...) "
Does that mean that, on Shakespeare´s Romeo and Juliet, the role of Juliet on the balcony scene was played by a man ? Confused by english traditions, i search for an answer by Let´s Walk and others specialists on England.

Juliet was not played by men but boys :) just older females (like the nurse in Romeo and Juliet) would have been played by men. Acting and theatre was not seen as decent in any way and was especially nothing a woman should do. So, much respect to the boy actors as they had to be veeery talented to stand a chance against e.g. Romeo who would have been played by one of the most talented and experienced men in the theatre company :) Hope this helps

Thanks for that answer! I didn't know that myself either, always interesting to learn new things :)

At 6:05, the bench on the booth to wait the bus is intentionally thin and purposely uncomfortable... Who the scots want to butt pain ? Themselves ?

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Ha ha it might be the camera lens that's making the bench look like that! I sat there myself for a good few minutes and it wasn't too uncomfortable, though I was getting a little cold with the wisping wind off the Pentland Firth :)
