Definitely glad to hear that my murder scorpion made it into the list, but I'm also rather glad that it didn't take the top spot. It's a rather useful TAG, and has a lot of lovely options it brings to the table (like "oh, this building is a cute stone to step over" or "don't mind me while I hug this wall and get cover!"), but that Silhouette 8 does means it harder to get into areas and is an absolutely massive target. I'm still kind of tempted to pick up a second one, just for the hilarious havoc such would bring to the table - well, that and the display case would just look so much more epic with two of them...
I find the mine dispenser is my go to when I have turn 1 and my opponent deploys their board completely out of LoS what else am I going to do with all those free moves? I can spend half my turn moving her into perfect position while chucking mines onto my opponents side of the board just to punish them for not keeping anything standing up.
And that is the reason I don't play the Cutter... I was kinda sad when CB took away the HFT from it in the transiction from N2 to N3 or from N3 to N3.5
As a very new player currently running MO and Starmada but looking to add Vanilla Nomads I was quite happy to see the Gecko on this list... especially since I want to build a meme list that has double Gecko plus all the hackers and still hits 14 or 15 orders. On the note of MO and Tags... such a shame there's not re sculpt of the Tikbalang or even just another run of it. It's impossible to get as a new player without looking at recasts which is something I don't like because that takes away from CB.
nice. I really like Szally. For nomads it really opens up the board. Has a great amount of dice and hits great outside the optimal range. Really lets your 'locks, hecklers and other repeaters throw down nicely. nomad has a huge body pool so keeping your TAG safe shouldn't be too hard.
I killed an Avatar with a surprise attack to the rear with Kitsune. Monofilament gives a damn on how much armor or structure/health you've got. And i did it on the last turn, just to score enough points to win the game.
Yeah, Monofilament is the cheat code for beating the Avatar. And there's a surprising amount of those weapons floating around. JSA tho are the Kings & Queens of it!
@@the_infinitygamer We dont have good Tags yet. They cant be hacked because nobody understands how a TAG can run on Windows 95. But we do get Werewolves! And thats why I play them :3
Just saw this I am surprised the Xenodrone is not on this because bio immunity arm 5 and bts 6 with a k1 marksmen rifle or multi marksmen means that you have a tag that is effectively immune to anti tag guns (not hacking) that can murder many elite models. It is tougher to kill in many ways are then the Jotum. I have decimated an army with an uhlan and I love how it looks. There are some errors I suspect others have pointed it out. Intuitive attacks are only ever 1 attack and tikbalangs are mimetism -3 not -6
Hmmm I rewatched the Tikbalang section and I saw it’s mimetism -3 and armour 6 but I do say it quite quickly so I can see how it’s not 100% clear. You’re correct about my Jotum error however, the cutter has -6.
Very interesting list with a few TAGs I did not expect to see. The Avatar is in my opinion the best TAG. It is a terrifying opponent. There are drawbacks and weaknesses but I had games, where he had killed or taken over 13 enemy units. One thing about Mnemonica: It also transfers the WIP of the Avatar to the new host. Suddenly you have a WIP 17 specialist. The Sphinx I would rate higher, because MOV 6-6 + Climbing+ with a marker state is just nasty. A normal Spitfire is a little weak as a main weapon, but the Sphinx is not made to brawl with tanky opponents. Those two TAGs would be my Top 2, but I could be biased, because CA is my "main" faction. I love that you included the Geckos. Mean little critters, that they are. Cheap as chips, +2 DAM BS attacks (DAM 17 MK12, DAM 15 MULTI MMR, DAM 15 Chainrifle ... chef's kiss). If you lose one, it doesn't matter, because you have second one or enough of your list left. Only the 6-2 MOV is a little slow. I really love TAGs and they are the units (especially the Avatar) who drew me into Infinity. So in my mind all TAGs are Top 5 (except for the old Marut, which is ugly).
The Sphinx is a very scary option in a sectorial that’s brimming with lethal weapons. CA could very well be the ‘best’ faction in infinity and units like the avatar and Sphinx really help that cause.
smoke+shoot avatar Anaconda: +1 Dam AP Spitfire (linkable in many sectorials), and when/if it goes down the Operator still generates an order. Starco's Anaconda+Digger+Irman. is a solid haris and should at least be mentioned.
Hard to smoke trick the avatar in reactive. And the Anaconda is neat but at BS13, 2W, without modifiers the haris just makes it "ok". It's a fine TAG but you really get what you paid for...
So if it was my list I'd be kind of biased and have the top 5 be all rem pres TAGs (since they're so expensive and being able to have the chance to re-roll a failed repair roll and a second level unconcious is so clutch), so I'll make a top 5 for both Rem Pres and Manned Tags. Top 5 Rem Pres Tags: 1. Avatar 2. Sphinx 3. Tikbalang (both variations are good but the AP HMG is so good in this edition) 4. Jotum 5. Uhlan (Yeah I know 3/5 are PanO tags but 2 of those I love, and had the Uhlan played against me and it was rough with how versatile it was) Top 5 Manned Tags: 1. Maghariba Guard 2. Gator 3. Blue Wolf 4. Raicho 5. Szalamandra/ Gecko
I would have agreed if we were still in N3. With the addition of gizmokits, RemPres lost a lot of its edge. It's still an excellent thing to have, especially for the factions with TAGs that like to stay in your own table half and do hit and runs (Pano, Aleph). But the b2/b3 gizmokits offers a similar effect without Command Token usage.
Ways to take down an Avatar (note that none are autoplay): 1) Melee. Check your unit for Stealth and Cube. You can have neither, both, or just stealth (but to get there it can be order-intensive). Not having a Cube means the Sepsitor is useless (outside of training/demoing, kudos for keeping a straight face when its use is declared and keep going until resolution: those who don't know their own unit's weaknesses need a throrough lesson!), while Stealth avoids generating ARO until you declare anything but Moving (some melee troops have marker state). Best troops here are Bakunin's Morlocks: 6 points for EM melee, smoke and easy to sacrifice. Remember to always bring 2, never one. Next best options are Ariadna's beasts (Bearpode, K9, Dog Warriors, etc...) and they will go, after dancing with the avatar, to break everything else. Lastly, Igao, while he's only dmg 13 in melee, he piles MA3 and Melee-3 with Surprise Attack. Honorary Mention to those remotes with PARA-6 melee weapons, and a Rem Racer may improve that with +9CC (plus other stuff) and some Impersonators like the Speculo. Andromeda may be able to mess with the Avatar too with her D-Charges in "ranged melee", but I'm not sure about the precise way.. 2) Mines. You mentioned EM mines (EMaulers), but few remember the Monofilament ones... Zeroes, Hecklers, etc... The Monofilament Mines: the Naga. 3) Extreme range with a sniper. I doubt a player will deploy the Avatar in the opposite corner to yours, but if it happen... shoot against its dodge. 4) I think I saw tear-shaped template weapons with AP somewhere.... It is IMPORTANT to remember that EM applies ISOlated state (besides IMM), which is NOT a Null State, so no Mnemotecno may be activated to prevent Lt Loss! This means that Isolating the Avatar is a better choice for hacking than IMM, so Oblivion is better than Carbonite here, specially since they have the same B (2), but Oblivion is damage 16 and AP, while Carbonite is Damage 13 DA. If the Avatar had not spent his Tactical Awareness (Strategos conversion of Lt order is not optional in N4) he can do something, otherwise... 2 irregular orders for the next turn in LoL!
@@Zac-Hansen Too order intensive (I mean, it's possible but more often it will be a wasted pitcher/hacking attempt), the Avatar's WIP is the highest in the game and the BTS is top of the line too. Plus it will have enough screening elements to remove the pitcher in its active turn.
To be fair I do try and bring one hacker with pitchers at least if I think I’m taking on a TAG heavy list. Other options are lots of continuous damage but they are highly likely to armour save.
@@Xagroth I guess that depends on your dice roles. The first time I put an Avatar on the table. Lobo showed me why I shouldn't play one. Pitcher + Hacker worked great. Having that said. I did go second.
Not mad about this at all. Just sad The damn cutter isn’t up to par for its points. Give it Some nasty cc and anti hacking at least. And one of my favourites, The Jotum. Why this beast isn’t veteran with msv I don’t know.
@@the_infinitygamer could be worse, the Clausewitz and Jotum fair even poorer, but oh well, it’s not like *the tag faction* seldom appears on these lists in n4.
To me this strange playability in which you get the Avatar, two bodyguards, and cheerleaders aplenty. And then, you just kill everybody with godzilla is a game-breaker. I wish, each soldier got an order, instead of this stuff.
While I like the video (Maghariba for the win), I do feel that you can't analise units in Infinity on their own very often, because the army construction in this game is as much about what you are taking as it is about what you aren't. The fundamental problem with CA at the moment, is that while it should have less stuff on the table, thanks to stuff like the Imetron, and the various beastly warbands, it has no such issue. The Avatar should take up a lot of space in your list but it doesn't thanks to those incredibly cheap orders. Addistionaly, I think it's also important to think about how the TAG synergises with the army. For example the Maghariba works well with a lot of Haqqislamite units, because it can easily reload their Panzerfausts and other such disposable weapons. She can engage targets, which would turn most Haqq soldiers into red paste. Army synergy and composition are a really important thing in Infinity and I really wish you hadn't ommited them. Also Maghariba is way more halal than those infidel beasts.
I see where you’re coming from, synergy isn’t very important and can make a good unit great. I chose to omit it because it’s a very deep rabbit hole and a newer player may just want to slap a big model on the table and not worry about supporting units. Your points are 100% correct though and makes the Avatar even more of an apex tag. I think the marut would have ended up second if I’d considered army synergy.
Jotum instead of Maghariba Guard, 10ARM really makes a difference especially with cover and 9BTS is 6BTS with -3 hacking all the time. Maghi has more tricks and is more iconic to infinity so for that she gets the love but on tabletop going super sweaty I have to give the edge to the Jotum
Remember that since N4 made HI and TAGs cheaper, it is folly to go out without AP or K1 weapons... Meaning it's not the armor, but the other things the TAG brings to the table. Also, Maggie has a 360º visor and can go into Suppresive Fire... with a 70mm base. That's a sphere of 63.5cm of radius, meaning you could place her in the center of the table and only the corners would be out of range. It may not look realistic, but remember: Parachutists with Deployment Zone do exist, so you can cover relevant fire lanes to more than ahead... And an HMG in SupFire can stop Duroc easily.
@@Xagroth I agree but most of the TAGs including honorable mentions have a side effect like the cutter sphinx and avatar all have mimetism-6. No love for just a good old fashioned big slab of meat cannon not even an HMC. Ultimately we are blessed to have a game with so many options to where everyone is right
@@zackwilloughby9185 I think you have a pink-lensed view of Infinity. There certainly are right and wrong, and not everyone is right. And it's not the mimetism-6, it's the partial inmunity to hacking (directly to Posessed, or having a marker state), or the cost (geckos are more like HI than TAGs, in practice, for example)
@@the_infinitygamer Yeah such an iconic bad arse mini I really need the pair to go with my Seraph for an armored cavalry contingent - any thoughts on the new Ariadna Chernoborg TAG ? I cant wait for it
Good list with good arguments. If I were to give criticism I'd attack the criterias, not the list itself lol (I think the true magic of TAGs is in their list synergies, not by themselves) Just some small notes : • Intuitive Attack is always B1, but yeah Sphinx is definitely more versatile than the Cutter. Cutter is a one trick pony with that BS15 brrrrrrrt • Iguana lost the ejection system. It just dies and pop smoke after like the Anaconda now. Really doesn't work as a frontal assault TAG. However the ECM Hacker + Repeater is *really strong* as a support TAG in both Nomads and ForCo. Probably has niche uses in KQ. Definitely not a top5 TAG though lol. Edit: Actually I do have a comment. The N4 buffs to the Raicho. Check it out. ECM Hacker and the pilot is even nastier than the Gecko's now. It's definitely the Top Dog "basic" TAG.
@@the_infinitygamer Veteran + ECM hacking makes it nearly impossible to hack. The version with the Heavy Shotgun + Mine Dispenser makes it able to be both extremely aggressive and defend itself without support, and once it dies, like the gecko, it has a pilot that is extremely threatening with a good BS Burst5 assault pistol *for free, already in position* that will be coming out for the weaker survivors after the TAG mode already dealt with the stronger key pieces. It's a gift that keeps giving. Immunity to Crits is little cherry on top that makes sure you never gets surprised by an extra wound during your risk calculation.
Maggy is the biggest tournament-legal ones. Megabeasts and megalodron are bigger, but not tournament-legal. She is also the heaviest at 300+ grams. The beasts are plastic.
Mnemonica clarification: you can only activate the transfer when your Lt is in a Null State, at which point you choose to sacrifice it to fully Dead, then transfer. But if someone kills your Lt outright (like with a Monofilament weapon), tough luck! You're now in LoL!
@@jeroenschoonbrood121 If the Mnemonica target has Wounds instead of Structure, and is down to 1 W left, then yes - it would go straight to Dead and not be able to use Mnemonica. Good call! Not on the Avatar tho, since it has STR which gives it two levels of unconsciousness. Getting hit by T2 would take it from 1 STR to 1st Unconscious, then to 2nd Unconscious, meaning it could still elect to transfer using Mnemonica.
@@edwarddeguzman3258 You're so right. I assumed it wasn't because in Mnemonica it says "the model, now Dead, is removed from the table", but Dead is indeed a Nul State. You just get to activate Mnemonica during the order in which the Mnemonica trooper dies, before you remove it. Thanks Edward!

That’s fair. I just thought the Jotum didn’t have the versatility that Maggie has but the Jotum is a good shout
@@Xagroth I prefer to think there's beauty in every color even pink-eyed
Sell me your Tikbalangs lol god i hope we get a re release or new sculpts soon
That Tikbalang is never leaving me I am so in love with it hahaha
@@the_infinitygamer Yeah such an iconic bad arse mini I really need the pair to go with my Seraph for an armored cavalry contingent - any thoughts on the new Ariadna Chernoborg TAG ? I cant wait for it
Chernoborg is good but battle ravaged throws a spanner in the works. I’d probably be taking one though 😂
Good list with good arguments. If I were to give criticism I'd attack the criterias, not the list itself lol (I think the true magic of TAGs is in their list synergies, not by themselves)
Just some small notes :
• Intuitive Attack is always B1, but yeah Sphinx is definitely more versatile than the Cutter. Cutter is a one trick pony with that BS15 brrrrrrrt
• Iguana lost the ejection system.
You’re not the first person to mention the Raicho but I just don’t se show it’s better than a Marut, Tikbalang or even a Blue Wolf. What am I missing?
Do you find it is really difficult to takedown in a game or are there some things that will usually get rid of it fairly easily?
@@the_infinitygamer Well I main JSA so I can't say I'm ever threatened by TAGs in general lol.
Hahaha good point!
Maggy is the biggest tournament-legal ones. Megabeasts and megalodron are bigger, but not tournament-legal.
She is also the heaviest at 300+ grams. The beasts are plastic.
300 grams!!! Oh wow
@@the_infinitygamer That's why it's almost 75 euro. ;)
😂😂😂
Mnemonica clarification: you can only activate the transfer when your Lt is in a Null State, at which point you choose to sacrifice it to fully Dead, then transfer. But if someone kills your Lt outright (like with a Monofilament weapon), tough luck! You're now in LoL!
Ooooh might have to pack more monofilament to be sure!
@Andrew Beeching does hitting a 1W with T2 ammo do the same trick?
@@jeroenschoonbrood121 If the Mnemonica target has Wounds instead of Structure, and is down to 1 W left, then yes - it would go straight to Dead and not be able to use Mnemonica. Good call!
Not on the Avatar tho, since it has STR which gives it two levels of unconsciousness. Getting hit by T2 would take it from 1 STR to 1st Unconscious, then to 2nd Unconscious, meaning it could still elect to transfer using Mnemonica.
Dead state is a null state, so you'd still be able to Mnemonica
@@edwarddeguzman3258 You're so right. I assumed it wasn't because in Mnemonica it says "the model, now Dead, is removed from the table", but Dead is indeed a Nul State. You just get to activate Mnemonica during the order in which the Mnemonica trooper dies, before you remove it. Thanks Edward!
