  • In April this year, the minimum wage for fast food workers will increase to $20 per hour. To really understand the impact of that increase, Restaurant Business Executive Editor Lisa Jennings spent a day working at Dave's Hot Chicken in the Los Angeles area, near the campus of California State University at Northridge, or CSUN.
This video is part of a bigger picture look at the labor landscape within the restaurant industry nationwide and how operators are coping with higher costs. Sponsored by ParTech.

Jazmin nailed it right on the head, minimum wage going up is only because cost of living has gone up significantly. So she is right these workers are just stick in the same income level / class

Oh darn! I forgot to buy my Dave’s hot chicken. Cauliflower slider before minimum wage went up. Now I can’t afford to buy one. The prices were high before that they’re probably worse now.

“We totally aren’t bringing in these self service kiosks to reduce labor”
Side-eyes over to the corporate employee just off screen and smiles.
“People want to move to California”
Every state in America right now is trying to figure out what to do with the Californians fleeing the state for theirs.

The location in San Leandro is a joke. The frying oil is so old and overused (the sign of a cheap management practice) and you get bitter, acrid smelling chicken cooked nicely, but is sour on the palate) you hit the great fries with much ketchup to compensate and sugar out. Marginal chain. The grade C gyros place around the corner is better.
