Putting a Header On My Carbureted Subaru Sambar KS4 and Getting Very Unexpected Results

  • Hey guys! Finally got around to installing and testing a header on the carb'd Sambar and I am very pleased with the results. There's a lot of guys asking about loss of power or losing back pressure and such, but I felt no loss of power. I am not a machine so I don't know exactly what it did for power or loss of power, only what I feel and hear. So do not come after me with numbers and charts and such, I am a human and I go off what I feel in the real world. Enjoy!

    You should take a look into installing a holley sniper efi single barrel kit. I installed one on my sambar, wow did it wake it up. Also improved fuel mileage quite a bit, that's all with a header snd exhaust by the way

      totally agree, i would do this on a less important sambar for sure. that white one is too "new" to mess with that engine, but we've been spittin the idea around for a donor truck

    Since you got the O2 sensor in there get you an air fuel ratio gauge so you can monitor what's going on and adjust your carburetor accordingly.

    • @OhKeiGarage
      @OhKeiGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      that's a really really good idea!

      @@OhKeiGarage it can help you squeeze some more power out of the engine by keeping it running optimally. And you are less likely to melt a piston with the change in back pressure letting the engine breath better.

    I would consider a Bar type of guard to protect the engine and exhaust from damage. It would allow you to show off the engine and exhaust but protect them.

    Greg obrian put these headers on a carbed truck and dyno'd it. there was about a 5hp power drop but the real issue was the power-band was super erratic due to pre-detonation. I'd be careful, you might end up running hot and chewing threw spark plugs super fast. on a more positive note man that sounds amazing and i wish my sambar sounded that good

    • @OhKeiGarage
      @OhKeiGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct! Greg has chimed in a lot on the header posts and like I was saying, I am not saying he or anyone is wrong. He's a smart dude and he has been teasing me with the header he is having made for the Sambars. I just wanted to test the ipunkz myself since we had the header. I will most likely run a colder plug, a 6 plug instead of a 5, to help with heat and such. Will it help? I don't know. Lol. I'm gonna have to take it off and put it back on the EFI van so I won't really have long term data since I won't be driving it with that one. It does sound amazin tho!!! Really opens her up!

      Why would it run hot--because it was lean? I feel you should stick one of those A/F test kits in it and drive it and adjust after a header install...

      @@robertelmo7736 ya I’m thinking we can run those gauges on the carb trucks since it has the bung for the sensor for efi’s so that will definitely be next 🤙🏻🤙🏻

      @@OhKeiGarage No I’m thinking my buddy has one that clips on like they used to do when they tested emissions on cars and you just run the wire up to the cab LOL. I will check it out I actually have several widebands so I guess we could do that but you probably need the oxygen sensor in place and will need to weld an extra bung if you’re going to put a wide band on it.

    I’ve found a couple supercharged sambar trucks. But with automatic transmission. Is it possible to convert one of those to a manual? I’ve headed to start away from the autos

    How come you aren't looking into the camera but rather off to the side? It reminds me of a tactic my buddy would use to hit on girls. He'd look at their ear when talking to them and get them just uncomfortable enough, then look them right in the eye. They'd have a good laugh and then it was off to the races!

    • @OhKeiGarage
      @OhKeiGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      lololol... it's cuz the camera lens is off to the side of the screen. i am watching myself instead of looking into the lens so it looks like im awkward and can't make eye contact. maybe it's part of the bit!
