    01:59 Why do you use a torx screwdriver on a hex bolt?
    04:50 That's not how you use a refractometer. You did not filter it, it wasn't mixed and you even incuded crema.
    I highly doubt that you can taste the effect of a shower screen. How many double blind tests did you do?
    The test on the BZ10 showed thats it' just guessing. You could do a one of tree test to taste the different shot.
    The variances in temperatuere of a non PID machine are huge! That probably has the highest impact in the results.
    The IMS shot looked the best, though.

    Liked the 'wrong' guess at the end, that's honest (lots of variables, as you stated at the start). Kudos!
    I've used both MA200IM and MA200NT shower screens on my GS/3. Both definitely less messy then the stock Marzocco screen, and resulted in much more uniform distribution of water over the puck. In my experience the "NT" IMS screen was easier to stay cleana than the "IM" IMS screen (both better than stock). The NT screen cannot be used with a chemical backflush, or soaking in chemicals, but is easy to keep clean. I favor it over the "IM" screen for this reason. Both the IMS screens (IM and NT) seem to distribute water quite nicely and equally however, so no difference there - tastes improved but the two are the same in that respect. . Both styles of IMS screens work great. I have a good grinder and with a quick but effective prep of the puck, I have no channeling.

    In my case I own a GCP and wanted to upgrade from the stock shower screen to the IMS Nanotech and the flow of water was visibly less even without the filter and portafilter

    I use a Flair, which has no shower screen, and add a mesh. Can rinse after after making the day's coffee, keeping it absolutely clean. As for boring a hole, I extract at 3 bar or less until the puck is fully saturated, and then go to 9 bar. Never get channeling. Any machine that can do this will mean that the screen will not matter. If WDTing creates variability, you are doing it wrong.

    IMO the replacement of shower screen of Gaggia Classic is the most unnecessary mod.
    The stock screen is so even that you won't notice the difference in cup.
    Your poor shot may be caused by many reasons but not the shower screen.
    Don't wast you money on that.

      I'd like to agree with you. But I can't because I can see how badly uneven the water flows out of holes in stock plate. I don't have the IMS plate. So I can't compare at the moment.

      My stock screen isn’t either. It seems to just shoot water towards the center.

    blind taste test didnt help this video as despite 10 years of coffee tasting experience the "Bright" screen was the stock one, which also beat the IMS and BIT screens for TDS as well. 10.50stock vs 10.2 and 10.05, im not convinced

      Hi there.
      The shower screen that you would want to use for the Profitec GO is the IMS CI 200, linked here:

      Unfortunately, no. All the the screens reviewed in this video are specifically for machines with 58mm groupheads.

    Whats your recommendation for Bezzera Matrix ? Thx

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there.
      If using the Matrix DE model (with BZ-grouphead), I would recommend the BIT upgrade. The upgrade to the holding plate makes it worth it alone, but the screen is also easier to clean and, in my opinion, provided a better water distribution. If using the Matrix MN model (with E61-grouphead), I recommend the IMS E61 200NT. It is the same shower screen I use on my personal machine at home and I love it. Here are links to each :

    Is there a lower profile shower screen screw available for the BZ group? I am having to under fill the basket to get enough headspace to clear the screw.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there.
      I am not aware of any other aftermarket or branded shower screen screws available for the BZ Group. If you can put your portafilter into the group and remove it and there is no indentation on the grounds from the screw, then you have an acceptable amount of headroom in the basket. Bear in mind, that the size rating of a portafilter basket (18g, 20g, 22g, etc) is the average MAX dose that basket can hold. Personally, if I have an 18g basket, I wouldn't use more than 17-17.5g in it. Also, due to the lower bean density of darker roasted coffees, you are actually using MORE coffee to get 18g of ground coffee than you would if it was a lighter roast.

      @@Wholelattelovepage Thank you! I ordered a bigger filter basket. Even with 15.5 grams I was getting an indentation of the screw on the puck with an 18g Baristapro basket. I couldn't go any lower on the dose since a 59.5 mm tamper would get stuck in the filter basket.

      screw spec is M5x16mm. I feel like the screw indentation on BIT shower needed a v-flat screw or we might smashed and bent the shower screen when tighten it down to shower plate. Plus the v shape can help center both onto the machine.

      @@jooger69I just got a BZ and am running into the same problem. Also by lowering the dose to clear the screw leads to watery pucks due to more headspace. Did you end up figuring it out?

    • @jooger69
      @jooger69 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrNer84Not really other than under filling a larger basket. Don't worry about a watery puck if the coffee in the cup is okay. That's just a feature of some machines likea Lineas.

    did you start the timing from first drop or from when activating the pump? The Gaggia bit shower plate has a "preinfusion'ish" function. So the timing start point, have a lot of impact I guess?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Anders.
      Perhaps I am old-fashioned, but I always start the shot timer on activation of pump. You are right, of course, that the channel on the topside of the BIT holding plate would throw off the timing of the water getting to the puck, but accounting for that felt like adding another variable to the equation. In the end, every little detail has a fairly dramatic impact on each shot of espresso. That's why it will always be a never-ending search for that "God Shot".

      @@Wholelattelovepage A batch of coffee beans changes every day, off-gassing, interacting with oxygen, and absorbing moisture from the air, so shots do vary from day to day. It is an art to adjust for this, just like baking bread. This is especially noticeable with Illy coffee that comes in a sealed can with inert gas.

      I think you're probably right here. The jury is out on shower screens and puck screens. Puck screens are cheaper and are easier to clean so I'll stick to it. I see no benefit in taste but it keeps the group head clean.
