Not forgotten. Rewatched it like 2 years ago. It was such a great show. The only sad part was the silly character changes on scifi. Glad scifi saved the show, but it sucked losing all the actors. It is a shame they did not have a real ending.
Definitely hard to find on streaming sites - if even on any currently, but plenty of DVD box sets of the entire series are only like 20-30$ on ebay. I grabbed one to rewatch the series every few years as its my favorite show from high school. The DVD sets are not remastered and locked shitty resolution with the crappy 4:3 ratio still, but its all there :)

Such a missed opportunity for what could have been one of the greatest science fiction shows of all times. A show that seriously needs to be rebooted and given the love that it deserved.
Oh, I ADORED "Sliders". It was one of the shows me and my Brother (he passed away in 2011 at 34) in the 90s. We watched all the now classics. "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", "Star Trek: Voyager", "Highlander the series", "Friends" and so many more. I HAVE SO MANY precious memories. "Sliders" as a concept, was fantastic. But, of course, being Fox they had (maybe still?) a habit of putting ratings over quality? Although, you could apply that to most networks and companies? In fact, one of my prized items, is the 2 part "Sliders" comic Jerry wrote. And, they did a TV version as "Just say YES". Science Fiction is, and always has been, a great way, of commenting on real life issues OR the possibilities of the future that WILL happen. Science fiction is the realm of what is to be. NOT what can never happen. The original cast were amazing. So, to hear there was a lot of negatives for them to make the show, is very sad. I hope all of them have learned and moved on from the downsides to have happy memories. Like they gave me when I was a teenager. He was objectively the best thing about the show. JRD is just a joy to watch on screen, no matter who he is playing, and having an older cast member made the ensemble a lot more interesting.
I believe it was confirmed by the former showrunner that it was intended for the Arturo who ended up dying was the “other” Arturo from the Azure Gate world. Contrary to what fans say that Arturo wasn’t evil, just avaricious and haunted by not following his Quinn when he had the chance I’ve always wondered about the mossed opportunity to bring JRD’s character back in a new series that would be more along the lines of the first season. Oh well..
Loved it at the beginning. I probably should’ve stopped at the episode where they got back to Earth Prime but didn’t think it was because the gate didn’t squeak (it’d been oiled since they left).

The early seasons of this show before the executives decided to interfere was amazing. I still watch it from time to time. This show needs a proper reboot where they focus on the science. The science part is what made this show amazing.

Sliders was my favourite show on tv from 96-98 I gave up after season 3. I then found Stargate SG-1 which I think was already on season 3 when I got episodes 9-12 of season 1 on DVD from the local library and started playing catch-up.
SG-1 is one of the best sci fi series of all time. I've watched the whole thing about 12 times now. Atlantis was one of the best spinoffs ever. And then Universe was... okay.
That sums up the first 3 seasons. The scifi channel seasons were less than B movie scifi junk. This was because Peckinpah managed to get full control of the series and fired the creator Tracy Torme.
despite how it ended behind the scenes and on screen, also the best multiverse story told....FRAKK XOF....if you get my meaning.... that network killed so many shows chasing ratings that if they just let things play out they woulda had all the ratings....and shows woulda lasted longer....
I've always thought it should get a reboot too, but now is not the time. You just know it would get race and gender swapped and every story would be social justice bs. Hollywood just can't help themselves.
I would be happy with a movie to finish it off but only if they could get the original cast back. I like to think that it was the fake professor that died because of what the one that was left behind said, which they hinted at as being the real professor if they had been allowed to continue, the way they wanted too.

Thiz show jumpshark in tge most painful way still the guardian episode might be the best shark jumping ever.
This show introduced me to the multiverse idea and it was so fascinating to me. These shows always locked you into the suspense of what was going to happen next.
Thanks for the trip down Mallory Lane. I have Sliders on my streaming service, and I am able to catch all the episodes. This got me to want to finish watching season 5, and the finale, as I have never seen it. I did lose interest after the end of season 4, when both the O'connell Brothers didn't slide to season 5.

I was a sophomore in College when this show came out, I loved it and watched every episode in the first season, the following year I was taking a night class that coincided with the Slider schedule I had to stop watching and I was very upset. Watching this 32 yrs later it looks like it was for the better!
Earth 2, Sliders (early seasons) and The Pretender were the ones i remember from when we first got sky as there was basically nothing scifi on terrestrial except maybe War of the Worlds at 3am in the morning!
I had an idea to revive this show like a decade ago, when it might have worked. It would have picked up where the series left off, Remmy going through the portal "Home". We'd see a few flashed of that event, and flash to the current day, it's Rembrandt, he's in a mind manipulation chamber, he's older, and disheveled. He's seemingly been there a long time. The Cromags from their first encounter can be scene in blurred images of his vision. Basically, they never got away from the original Cromags, they've been running him through fake scenarios to learn everything they can about him and how he functions. Would have erased a ton of missteps, and could have been him trying to find out what happened to the others.
I can't remember how many series of Sliders BBC2 in the UK showed, 🤔 but I can only remember the one, because by 1995, I could legally go to the pub, so a fair amount of TV took a back seat by this time! 🤭
Always liked this. There was some other 90s Sci fi around the same time that were good ideas but never really finished off - space above and beyond, earth 2, seaquest dsv.

The first few seasons were MUST SEE for me when I was a kid. You didn’t see shows dealing with the multiverse really at all back in the day to I was hooked on the concept alone!
This series is remembered by me for the episode beginnings where the regular characters would tumble into new zones/adventures each week (the tumbles looked very Time Tunnel-ish).
The 'kromags' were a terrible mistake. The backward running world/universe was the most fascinating episode. The one wherein the worst storyline, Quinn wanting to save some woman from minor harm, leads to the entire universe collapsing as our sliders bail. The thesis of the backward moving time relative to our sliders was a brilliant concept, albeit handled only adequately.
One of my favourite sci-fi series with so much lost potential in the later seasons. Visual effects for the time were awesome. Season 5 wasn't great but it was certainly less a chore to get through than Season 4 which was frankly terrible.
I loved this slow. I would watch this every friday before Star Trek Voyager and another show that a man would go into a pod and go back in time. I think it was called 7 Days but can’t remember for sure.
I loved this show as a kid and even though I remember binging on the DVDs in 2006 I don't recall any of these details or a single episodes plot. Good times.
I loved Sliders when it first aired. I never missed an episode up until season three ended and it was canceled and subsequently picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel. I didn't have cable so I couldn't continue watching, nor did I even know it had been picked up for two more seasons. I didn't learn until over a decade later, then I was finally able to watch when the full series came to Netflix.
Never knew that this show existed, until a couple years ago. Comet TV used to play reruns late at night and I managed to watch a handful of episodes. Its a good watch

@jamiecashes Find the first three seasons on DVD and watch it in order, do not waste your time with the non FOX seasons. The only thing to come close to this show is the movie Parallels from 2015. Unironically it is was supposed to get a TV series afterwards and that fell through.
I still remember some moments, like the world with the lottery; the water world at the beginning and before they were able to slide, they clung to the TransAmerican Pyramid; and the first season finale with the creaking gate.
Man i was like 9 or 10 when this was on. I was too young to know about actor drama stuff. I was waiting so long for Wade and the professor to be brought back some how. but they never came. That feels cruel to a kid lol.
As usual, this was a great summary/analysis. Would you be able to do the same for another great series that also started strong but ended weak IMHO: 'Travelers'?
Sliders was the definition of hit or miss. Some episodes missed and missed hard, but the hits were memorable. I think my favorite episode was Paradise Lost which combined a Tremors-like monster with a Twilight Zone plot.
I always liked the into or altro random insane world that could never have been funded. My favorite is probably the fire plant which did turn into a full episode. "E why did you chose such a limited form?" "I didn't? Wait you did?" Que slide and the unanswerable question going unanswered. I always loved that. And the idea was hinted at that the flame was more intelligent then their genius sliders. Really Really loved that.
I loved this show. After Quantum Leap this was the next sci fi show I was into. Never could keep track of it. I didn’t even know it changed networks and thought it stopped after season 3.
I do vaguely remember enjoying Slider's at the time. Now based off this review I probably only really ever saw the 1st Season as I started Uni in '96 and TV took a back seat for a time. Seems like I probably saw the best of it in all honesty.
I posted too early. For which I apologise. I have not heard a cast member speak of the show without wistful nostalgia about how it could have been. JRD is very bitter about how it went but enjoyed the show and speaks highly of it and the cast. JO'C gives it credit for any success he has had as an adult, especially the support and adulation he gets to this day from Sliders fans. CD clearly loved it enough to stay on - when's the next time a non-white person was the lead on a SF show (I think it's new Quantum Leap, but I could be wrong - someone will no doubt correct me). Great review, mate. Keep up the good work, and stoke me a clipper. I'll be back for Christmas.

Criminally underrated show. At least pre-kromags and pre-maggie. I've watched them all multiple times. Even the seasons i didn't love.

I only got interested in Sliders after it went into syndication when I saw a brief glimpse of Kari Wuhrer while channel surfing.
Kari Wuhrer was the hottest sheriff in movie history in 2002 comedy horror movie Eight Legged Freaks.

I can't remember how many series of Sliders BBC2 in the UK showed, 🤔 but I can only remember the one, because by 1995, I could legally go to the pub, so a fair amount of TV took a back seat by this time! 🤭
I could be wrong, but I think it might have been 2 series? I used to watch it on bbc2 as well, before it moved to sky, which I didn't have
Same here - until the internet thought this was a one season wonder.
I remember watching the two parter with Roger Daltrey on BBC 2, after that I think it vanished over to Sky (which I didn't have at the time).
I don't remember anything after Season 3 (I think)

I love the show. Love tabloid world and backwards time world are favorites episodes.
Always liked this. There was some other 90s Sci fi around the same time that were good ideas but never really finished off - space above and beyond, earth 2, seaquest dsv.
At the time it was probably John Rhys Davies’ biggest and most prominent role.
True, but he had also been in the Indiana Jones and Bond film series in the 80s.
Sliders WAS good in its first few seasons. I miss it.
When they went too aliens and dinosaurs; they messed up.

The first few seasons were MUST SEE for me when I was a kid. You didn’t see shows dealing with the multiverse really at all back in the day to I was hooked on the concept alone!
This series is remembered by me for the episode beginnings where the regular characters would tumble into new zones/adventures each week (the tumbles looked very Time Tunnel-ish).
This was my favorite show back in the day!
Sliders might have the most staggering quality decline in Scifi history, that's saying something considering the company its in.

I enjoyed watching this TV show.
The 'kromags' were a terrible mistake. The backward running world/universe was the most fascinating episode. The one wherein the worst storyline, Quinn wanting to save some woman from minor harm, leads to the entire universe collapsing as our sliders bail. The thesis of the backward moving time relative to our sliders was a brilliant concept, albeit handled only adequately.
I loved the first 2 seasons and most of the third. I was working at CompUSA when I started watching it. Those who've seen it get it.....

The show had so much potential. There was end less opportunities. With making social commentary.
One of my favourite sci-fi series with so much lost potential in the later seasons. Visual effects for the time were awesome. Season 5 wasn't great but it was certainly less a chore to get through than Season 4 which was frankly terrible.
The first season was gold, they ruined the show when they moved away front alternative history and toward cromag/star trek stories.
The character Wade was done dirty by this show.

I loved this slow. I would watch this every friday before Star Trek Voyager and another show that a man would go into a pod and go back in time. I think it was called 7 Days but can’t remember for sure.
I loved this show as a kid and even though I remember binging on the DVDs in 2006 I don't recall any of these details or a single episodes plot. Good times.
The first season of this show was the bomb!
I've probably only seen a handful of episodes, but i always loved watching the show. Some day I'll binge the series.
I loved Sliders when it first aired. I never missed an episode up until season three ended and it was canceled and subsequently picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel. I didn't have cable so I couldn't continue watching, nor did I even know it had been picked up for two more seasons. I didn't learn until over a decade later, then I was finally able to watch when the full series came to Netflix.
Never knew that this show existed, until a couple years ago. Comet TV used to play reruns late at night and I managed to watch a handful of episodes. Its a good watch

Find the first three seasons on DVD and watch it in order, do not waste your time with the non FOX seasons. The only thing to come close to this show is the movie Parallels from 2015. Unironically it is was supposed to get a TV series afterwards and that fell through.

I still remember some moments, like the world with the lottery; the water world at the beginning and before they were able to slide, they clung to the TransAmerican Pyramid; and the first season finale with the creaking gate.

I never even heard of this show.. but this would be the type of show that I would have loved I imagine.
Man i was like 9 or 10 when this was on. I was too young to know about actor drama stuff. I was waiting so long for Wade and the professor to be brought back some how. but they never came. That feels cruel to a kid lol.
As usual, this was a great summary/analysis. Would you be able to do the same for another great series that also started strong but ended weak IMHO: 'Travelers'?

I remember watching this, underrated show.
Sliders was the definition of hit or miss. Some episodes missed and missed hard, but the hits were memorable. I think my favorite episode was Paradise Lost which combined a Tremors-like monster with a Twilight Zone plot.
My friend and I use to call John Rhys Davis "Pavarotti" because of this show.
I always liked the into or altro random insane world that could never have been funded. My favorite is probably the fire plant which did turn into a full episode. "E why did you chose such a limited form?" "I didn't? Wait you did?" Que slide and the unanswerable question going unanswered. I always loved that. And the idea was hinted at that the flame was more intelligent then their genius sliders. Really Really loved that.
I loved this show. After Quantum Leap this was the next sci fi show I was into. Never could keep track of it. I didn’t even know it changed networks and thought it stopped after season 3.
Appreciate these summaries of series (with a retrospective bent) I am interested in but will never find time to watch nowadays.

Never really got into this show. I do remember though thinking how adult and manly Jerry O'Connell filled out compared to say his stand by me roll.
Every good sci-fi series needs exactly 1 serious actor, no more, no less.

I do vaguely remember enjoying Slider's at the time. Now based off this review I probably only really ever saw the 1st Season as I started Uni in '96 and TV took a back seat for a time. Seems like I probably saw the best of it in all honesty.
I posted too early. For which I apologise. I have not heard a cast member speak of the show without wistful nostalgia about how it could have been. JRD is very bitter about how it went but enjoyed the show and speaks highly of it and the cast. JO'C gives it credit for any success he has had as an adult, especially the support and adulation he gets to this day from Sliders fans. CD clearly loved it enough to stay on - when's the next time a non-white person was the lead on a SF show (I think it's new Quantum Leap, but I could be wrong - someone will no doubt correct me).
