As a die hard golf fan who can appreciate architecture/course design/ course prep, hearing a superintendent give this much meticulous detail is simply awesome. He (and staff) genuinely cares so much about the course being as good as it can be! So cool.
As a resident, I hear these guys EVERY morning doing their best to make Pinehurst courses look beautiful 12 months a year! Cold or hot, in darkness and early light, these dedicated people make the difference year round! Hats off and kudos to all!
I played it twice back in the 1980s. The first time, it looked like a poorly maintained muni, with patchy grass and shaggy, slow greens. A few years later, under new management, it was transformed. Love the course!
Great video paying a rightful tribute to the huge work and dedication of the teams who prepare the course for the exceptional quality level of an US Open.
My brother graduated from Penn State's turf management master's school and has been a superintendent for several years. He has been a superintendent at a high end golf course AZ for several years. I can't imagine the stress of getting a US Open n course ready.
I want this to be the exact opposite of the PGA. Struggles everywhere, guys visually frustrated, some club tosses maybe. Breaking Par should mean something
I love pinehurst n2 It’s going to be great. Hopefully weather cooperates and the fairways and greens are firm as can be. if it’s dry like last time the one thing I would change from is keeping ‘the stuff’ the wire grasses and what not healthy and lush with hand watering. It was a bit too dry last time for many. Not so much for me but it wouldn’t hurt. Imo.
_"the one thing I would change from is keeping ‘the stuff’ the wire grasses and what not healthy and lush with hand watering"_ Have n0 idea what that means
The stuff is those natural weedy areas off the fairway; as Coore calls it. Last US Open it was super dry and firm and fast which is great but those wire grasses/weed areas were arguably too dry. I’m just saying if it doesn’t rain put some water on those areas. Especially in the landing areas off the tee.
That was the poorest excuse for a golf course I've ever seen. The sand traps needed trimmed, and the rest of the course was indistinguishable from the sand traps. What an embarrassment to the PGA
Payne Stewart was being canceled by ESPN just before his death for racist comments, then that got erased and memory holed. He definitely died at the right time. I'm thankful he didn't have to see what this world has become. He would have enjoyed this setup and these greenskeepers though.
It is superior in every single way. Im sure you only appreciate and think courses should look like ANGC. (ANCG should also go back to its roots 1930s-40s)
@@andrewengels9107 I am speaking asthetically. Not every course has to look like anything but go back and watch the 1999 Open and then watch the one in 2014. Much more scenic to watch on TV for fans . I have played over a hundred golf courses in my day and I am speaking for myself. My point of view. You are entitled to your opinion. I have mine.
@@andrewengels9107if you’re going back to the 30s & 40s you would shorten the course and have 1/4” greens that roll 6 on a stimpmeter. Donald Ross was brilliant but if he was alive today I don’t think he’d have been to upset with how the course looked or played in 99. Not trying to be rude just pointing out not everyone thinks the same.
This is just such a bad representation of how 99% of superintendents and golf courses work. It makes us look wasteful. And we are never going to bring people into the industry if we keep talking about sacrifices. It doesn't have to be like that. You can operate daily at championship levels at less than 50 hours a week. If you can't, you honestly aren't that good at your job.

I day dream about quitting the corporate rat race and being a greenskeeper. Doing something you love, outside with nature sounds like a dream.
25 yr career here. Yes, we all take pride in providing the best playing experience based on our budget.
A lot of hard team work.
@@MrHkballer1I think even mowing the fairways or green in the retirement years would be awesome.

Good to see Sam burns moonlighting as assistant super.
Great call on the similarities !
Pinehurst 2 is so much more attractive since it was re-done!
I love this, haha. Right you are!

Love the course!
Looking forward to caddying at the US Open next week. Appreciate all the hard work you guys do to get it ready for us. 👍
Who you caddying for?

I was down there yesterday 6/7. The course is closed off but from what I could see it is looking fantastic! Super excited.
#2 was mind blowing. The event it self was amazing and the only thing I wish was different…. Nothing lol
Really enjoyed it and looking very forward to the Championship. Great job guys. (N&S Amateur Champion ‘79)
Great video! 👍 so much hard work going into it and it shows! Great job
Nothing runs like a Deere. God bless America.
Hell yeah brother
Visually PH #2 is spectacular! No rough. 👏
The course looks Great on TV, excellent job by Hard Workers.

Got to play 2,4,6, and 8 in March what an experience can’t wait for this weekend
Awesome ❤️

Totally agree
Pinehurst No. 2 is the hardest course I've ever played.
Their fairways are shorter than some UK course greens

Every shot has to be perfect to play well. There will be tears next week.
I hope it plays had and fast.

20-22 people, we are only 3. 😅
Someone please tell what hat the superintendent is wearing.

Jesse Helms and George Wallace would agree with you.
I remember his WWJD bracelet

Pinehurst 2 is not near as attractive since it was re done .
