Today I went inside of Ibrox a week before the Old Firm derby! It's home to Rangers Football Club. I was able to go inside by booking a table at their Argyle House Restaurant.
Rangers play in the SPL (Scottish Premiership) and also qualified for this season's UEFA Europa League group stages.

As a young kid I was dragged there every other Saturday by my dad in the late 60's and 70's. We lived locally and the deal was dictated by my mother to my dad. "you can go to the match, but you take the wean with you" I must have slept through 100's of games sitting on the stanchions held by my dad and his mates. Later on in the 80's I bought a flat on Brand street and worked in the Clachan bar on Paisley Road west. Best thing about the stadium back them was the members bar, sauna and gym. Thanx for the memories.

Two things worthy of note. First, in the boxes in Argyle House, the glass has no "Shift" as you look right to left or vice versa. Second, you can turn up (Or down) the crowd noise. If you go on a non match day, you can turn it up and, amazingly, hear every word as the groundskeepers speak to each other.

Rangers never shared Cathkin Park as far as I know. The early games were played on public pitches but their first home was Burbank Park, albeit just for a year. This was followed by a move to Kinning Park, where Rangers played for ten years or so before moving to the first Ibrox Park.

In your vid visiting Ibrox and Celtic Park 2 off the statues I reckon were 2 of the best players I've ever seen, our own Davie Cooper and Celtics Jinky Jimmy Johnstone. Different eras but would have been nice to have seen them on either wing playing together for Scotland.

The old brick outside is beautifully traditional and the 3 theirs are very nice on the eye. The rest of the stadia not so attractive but credit where its due. A great deal of errors. The Rangers that you talk off died by going into liquidation. Yes the shell suited supposed fans let the club die. This new team that you visited have only won three trophies, they have been in a few major finals but although the pretence is its the same club in real terms I'm afraid No. A great channel but don`t get to attached to teams who have an undercurrent of bigotry with a slight touch of racism. Perhaps you could have a show about the clubs who proudly flew the swastika.

      BOOORRRRIINNNGGG! zzzzzzzz
How any deluded mong can let The Rangers live inside their head rent free and not support their own club is laughable.
By the way, when was separate entity fc formed? It defo wasn't 1888, going by your uninformed logic.
And on your point of racism, who threw bananas on to the pitch at a black player? Rangers fans have never ever done that, but separate entity fans did to Mark Walters. Remember that? And whos fans made aeroplane gestures to a Rangers american player after 9/11? Let me guess, oh it was separate entity fans again. I could go on and on and on.
I won't mention the child rape you lot covered up, so I'll leave that for another day. Oh, I won't mention your support for terrorism either, or the dumb fact that yous claim to be from a country that you have never even been to.

I didn't watch all of the video, yet, forgive me if I 'put my foot in my mouth' with this comment (a few brutal commentators here)
but my father was on holiday in Glasgow ( more of a..... mid-life crisis) and had his trusty 8mm film camera, was passing Ibrox while it was being totally renovated (the stands & outer) so he let his inner historian run loose, & took a lot of film shots of the construction work. Quite a boring video at that time, but would have historical relevance now.
My friend's family was quite entrenched within Rangers F.C. (he was a ball-boy) and he told me that after the Ibrox stadium disaster in the early '70s, Rangers were very mindful of having a safe and functional stadium. In the early '80s Ibrox was regarded as the most modern & innovative stadium in Europe.
During renovations in the late eighties, my friend was back on holiday (no names mentioned) and he managed to secure a square of the custom made carpet that had the Rangers logo woven into it. He told me his intention was to frame it. The last I heard was that it spontaneously self-combusted and burned down my friends house & ten of his neighbours houses; okay, maybe that much is a Celtic supporters wild exaggeration.

It's interesting to see how Rangers and Celtic fans are fighting each others on which club is bigger. For a continental European like me, both clubs are overachievers in a medium-sized country with not so impressive football overall. Without their rivalry, Scottish football would not be so special. In spite of Celtic fans resentments, it's a good thing that Rangers have recovered. Now there's a point of real competition and from that will benefit both clubs and, who knows, maybe they will be able to play again in the Champions League groups.
In my opinion, Rangers is the same club as ever, managed by a different company. It may sound strange for some, but to me a club consist of the people that feel they are part of it. I say that because the situation that Rangers have been into has repeated on countless time on the continent. There are dozens of European clubs that have been refounded or have been move from a managing company to another. Fiorentina, Napoli, Bari and many other clubs in Italy have been refounded in the past decades. Can you say they are not the same old clubs? Yes, you can say it, but their fans don't feel that. In France and in Spain, the same. Strasbourg and Metz have been refounded in recent years.
And, of course, it's the Eastern Europe situation. In the communist era, all Eastern European clubs were officially amateur and they were managed by public institutions or factories. After 1990, all these clubs have migrated to private companies (some have been forced into bankruptcy for different reasons) and we talk here about thousands of clubs. From a Celtic fan point of view towards Rangers, those clubs have ceased to exist in the 1990s. And still they exist and compete in their leagues and win trophies. Rangers have played Lech Poznan this week, Celtic will play Sparta Prague, and both these clubs have been through the same process. They have the trophies, they have the stadiums and they have the fans.
A rather funny situation is in Romania, where there is a fight between the fans of Steaua Bucharest, Dinamo Bucharest and Craiova, who attack each other on supporting a "fake" or a "clone" club. In fact, all these clubs are managed by new companies founded recently. But their own fans ignore this legal aspect and consider their club being "true" because they support it. In the meantime, other clubs have been founded in lower leagues, with the same names, and they claim they are the "true" old clubs. Most fans support the first league clubs, but there are some who are with the lower leagues clubs and they even try to prove in courtroom they are right. The circus is continuing.

    • @FootyAdventures
      @FootyAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Very interesting comment. Considered points there for sure. I agree that if the fans, stadium, name of the club is the same, the owner is largely irrelevant. They're still the same clubs in the eyes of the fans and should be for everyone else. It's only an argument their biggest rivals make to diminish their successes in my opinion.

It is currently the only UEFA 5 star rated stadium in Scotland. The highest ever attendance at Ibrox was 118,567 for a 2-1 Rangers victory over Celtic in 1939. The last old firm match prior to World War 2.
