    Oh wow! 😮 I really liked watching you kayak to that beautiful cave! The water color is amazing! You could really see hiw happy you were being back in the desert! The views of the canyon on your trip up the river were beautiful. Thanks for taking us along! 😊

    Red eyed demonic ducks, too funny! Aside from that, it was a great perspective from the kayak. Beautiful and refreshing!

      Thank you! It was such a weird duck! 😂

    Beautiful! I’m glad you did not get sunburned this time!! Try a sarong instead of a towel for your legs - you can dip it in the river and cool off with it on your legs. A towel would be too heavy, but a wet sarong is perfect to cool off with. I learned that on a river rafting trip. 😊

      Definitely a great suggestion we will have to try in the future! 👍

    Kayaking seems like a lot of fun and a great way to see some places you can't otherwise get to. I definitely want to try it out. What about Kayaktus Atlas for a name? lol

    • @CactusAtlas

      It really is! You should definitely give it a go sometime. Loving the name suggestion! 👍

      We agree! I know the Mississippi is known as the mighty one, but to think this river carved out all these canyons and still looks that green..? Majestic. 🤩

    The bird you saw at the beginning is called an eared grebe. Technically not a duck, but spends most of it's time in the water. Other great video, and another place I would like to visit!

    The vertical pipe in the structure is called a stilling well. The shelter at the top has an instrument that records the level of the water. It has a recording instrument that has a float on one side and a weight on the other which records the water level on an interval that is generally determined by drainage area.

  • @oxycocus

    love the soundtrack. maybe you saw a grebe or coot?

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  ปีที่แล้ว

      We're unfortunately not too knowledgeable about birds of the area so it is entirely possible! 😊

  • @troutstalker23
    @troutstalker23 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Using a gadget called a current meter, one can develop a relationship between gage height and discharge. Therefore a graph can be used for flood predictions etc. So yes Glenn...you are absolutely correct.

    I used to frequent that area in the 90s. Before the restrictions from the lawsuit and 911. And there's even more restrictions now. I'm personally not a fan of tour groups. Good episode and channel.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Tour groups can be great for the inexperienced, but yeah... they can certainly turn a quiet, peaceful trip into... well, a not so quiet one. 🫤

  • @Gail-gf7km

    Didn’t get a clear picture of the ducks, but it looks like a Coot. Did they have a white bill to go along with the red eyes?

    • @CactusAtlas

    Kayaking the Glen Canyon from the dam going downstream to to lees ferry VS black canyon from hoover dam to willow beach . Can you share your experience for people planning on doing either one or both ?

    How hard is it to paddle upstream? What was your average speed?

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Couldn’t tell you how fast my average speed was, but paddling upstream was very easy that day, because the wind was at my back and the current is actually pretty slow. Now paddling downstream on the way back, with the wind in my face…. a wind that picked up as the day went on…whole different ball game I was not prepared for, and a lesson I’ll never forget. I made it, but it tested me as one who is not in the best shape and a novice at kayaking. So if I had any advice, pay very close attention to the wind forecast. It is extremely important. Maybe the most important factor on this one.

      I think this was one of the suggestions I made to Glenn for the drone. Though technically "Atlas 1" it out of commission until we get an arm fixed and Atlas 2 has been on duty. 😅
