I do this method when I use a VST that has multiple drum sounds (kicks, hihats, snares) and every piano key assigned to a different sound (like the kick drum is assigned to the C note, the snare is assigned to the D# note). If I wasn't using a VST that was set up like this I would draw drum samples in their own separate piano rolls.
