Syl Johnson!!! I love all of his songs, especially "Bring Out The Blues In Me". "Take Me To The River" "Anyway The Wind Blows" "I Only Have Love For You" "Ms. Fine Brown Fame" are among my favorites. Thanks for showing this.
Mr. Syl Johnson is an adopted son and one of Chicago's very own favorite blues artist/singers. I remember when I heard the news about him passing in 2022 and how close it was to his brother death.😢My favorite songs by him were The Love You Left Behind, I'm Yours, and Take Me To The River. Never knew his music was so heavily sampled. He was correct in stating he should be acknowledged for his work. Mr. Syl Johnson should be inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame & RRHOF.
Thanks for introducing me to another blast from the past. I love all music but funk and Motown have that thing that keeps me moving. I will give Syl a good listen and thanks again for the fantastic music history.
He worked with me in my band The Breakestra a few years back. We're in his documentary Any Way The Wind Blows. My favorites of his are Different Strokes, Is It Because I'm Black and Right On, which is arguably his funkiest track. He said his band played the backing track for The Notations I'm Still Here, which was released on Twinight in either '68 or '69. Very interesting legacy. Different Strokes was his most popular and most samples track because of the grunts and laughing over the breakbeat during the intro. The riff of that track was used for BET's Rap City for a minute too. His daughter Syleena did a track with Kanye years ago.
Gratitude. Peace to Syl and his Fam. Peace to Willie Mitchell. Could I Be Falling in Love was sampled on Heaven and Hell I Hate I Walked Away was sampled on We Made It
Great video as always. I’ve never heard of him do another great history lesson for me. Hard to put him in a category from the songs u played but that last one was really good and yes sounded like funk
Blues Hall of Fame. Is It Because I'm Black is my favorite song. Iyanla Vanzant did an episode on Ocho Cino (aka Chad Johnson), and she interviewed the man who is his father. The episode was available on TH-cam a few weeks ago. You might be interested in checking it out.
Syl Johnson for me was one of the heaviest soulful funkiest brothers out there give a listen to [ Is it because I'm Black ] if that don't touch your soul nothing will it was relevant back in the day and even more so today.
Mr. Johnson have some jams, he sounds really good. I always thought that Chad was his son, I always thought Chad and Syleena was siblings. This was another great video!
Syleena been dispelled that rumor of her and Chad Johnson being siblings!! Johnson is their stage name, their family name is Thompson!! Great video as usual!!
My personal opinion, he should be inducted to the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame, and also the blues Hall of Fame, and any other accolades that he deserves for his contribution to music hard to believe that one of my favorite rap groups. Wu-Tang Clan wouldn’t be here because of his samples.
WHAT A STORY ON : Klymaxx; Mtume; Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five; High Five; Jodeci; Donna Summers; Barry White; The Bar Kays; Roberta Flack; TLC; Paula Abdul; Rufus and Chaka Khan; The Pointer Sisters; Sister Sledge; StarPoint to name a few.
Syl Johnson also has three older children by his first wife Antoinette who preceded him in death Anthony and Michelle and that would be me Chad is not my brother make sure you have all and true facts
His daughter Syleena Johnson is a formidable R&B singer in her own right!
