    1 In a test tube take about 5 g of melted fat.
    2. Add 5 ml of concentrated HCl (AR grade).
    3. Add 0.4 ml furfural solution (2% in alcohol) and vortex the tube for 2 min.
    4. Leave the tube undisturbed for separation.
    5. In presence of vanaspati, pink or red color will get developed in the test tube.
    6. Confirm by adding 5 ml distilled water and shake again.
    7. Persistence of the color in the acid layer, confirms presence of vanaspati. If the color disappears, vanaspati it is absent.
