      To be honest she has a beautiful voice and wears a suit very well I just can't get into her music. As a self proclaimed lover of all music well almost all music 🎶 i am not into it. I can't even tolerate new Christian music, take me back to the 70s church of my youth. And I'm a happy woman. But I'll give this lady another try! What was she robbed of? Winning a Grammy doesn't make or break someone's love of music! If they are a true musician they will carry on. Remember Kanye and his hissy fit, don't be a Kanye, be better!

    Bend it Like Beckham was allegedly supposed to be a gay movie phoebe! You weren’t wrong. I also clung to it as a gay youth (long before I knew) only to find out years later that Jules & Jess were apparently supposed to be love interests but they eliminated that because they didn’t want it to be banned in India. Still hella subtext though & the auntie saying “Lesbian? Her birthday is in March? She’s a Pisces” is forever iconic

  • @tommyo.3535

    Labeling someone as LGBTQ is going to be a thing of the past so quick. It's invasive and strange to bring someone's sexuality, one of the most personal characteristics about an identity, to the forefront for people to judge openly of all things as if that should ever matter. Obviously the most important reason why that label matters is so people can recognize and respect that person's struggle against society's norms. It feels like it's only a matter of time before that stigma concedes. Ideally all of us will learn to see without seeing ie absolving otherness completely

    • @Estherowusuboateng

    • @nako4862
      @nako4862 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Why are you talking as if being labelled as LGBTQ is bad (Considering you're saying it's going to be a thing of the past)? Phoebe is bi and she literally said it means a lot for her to get nominated as a LGBTQ person. How did you find it strange while Phoebe is okay with it? Seeing others without seeing doesn't mean not acknowledging other people's identities. Acknowledging that someone's queer doesn't equal to judging their identity.

  • @Cra8z27

    I don't care about a persons sexuality. I care about their heart and soul. Phoebe's got a golden heart, and a deep glowing soul as it shows in her lyrics. I love her for that.

    LGBTQ has more representation in popular media by percentage than their numbers in the general population. It's a dead issue, except to virtue signal. I love her music, wish it could just be what it is without identity politics mucking up the conversation.

  • @scott5654
    @scott5654 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Why do certain people get to bring sexuality into the conversation and they get a pass? Keep your sexuality to yourself we don’t want to know about it.

    • @marinakrammes4951
      @marinakrammes4951 3 ปีที่แล้ว +116

      bc especially in the music industry, sexuality is extremely relevant. almost every relevant artist talks about love in their songs, so if every famous artist is straight, for example, only heterosexual love is represented in songs, so if more LGBTQ singers are being recognized, it means more non-heterosexual love represented in music.

    • @art.of.verser
      @art.of.verser 3 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      @@marinakrammes4951 good thing it is!!! LGBTQ+ representation has been more relevant and prominent in recent decades. Even though the history itself goes back farther than that, I'm just glad people are talking about it more.

    • @herculepoirot9690
      @herculepoirot9690 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @Christopher Smith being able to relate to and resonate with people whose art you enjoy is always great, makes you feel less invisible, so that is why I care. I don't think it's healthy to fetishize or idolise a sexuality but representation is very important!

    • @herculepoirot9690
      @herculepoirot9690 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Christopher Smith that's cool! I'm just saying it's important to me but it's cool you focus only on music

    • @rapidol7
      @rapidol7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @Christopher Smith if we consumed music in a way that was seperate from the image and personhood of the artist, I think a lot more people would share your sentiment, but as it is, that is not the way most people consume music today. We tend to enjoy an artist's music alongside our perception of who they are (hence us watching this interview, for example). Lots of musicians talk about their relationships, personal lives, deep feelings etc in interviews and those who identify with them feel validated - it *is* important for someone like Phoebe Bridgers to talk about being LGBTQ, not only because it provides greater representation in music, but also because lots of people identify with celebrities in such personal ways and there's power in seeing something so personal and special to you being represented
