As an artistic swimmer here, I am begging you not to do this for fun. As a competitive artistic swimmer on an elite team, most swimmers/parents/coaches hate the application, smell, and the removing of knox. If it gets super hard/dry, you could be in the shower for more than an hour, and you baby hairs are in denial 😅 But, the effects do make your hair healthier, until my swimmers 25+ hour weekly practice schedule comes along 💀Do as you please, but as a swimmer with lots of experience, its not the most pleasant thing 😅 I only meant for this comment to benefit the popularity of Artistic Swimming and to build the number of amazing artistic swimmers, not the number of fearful ppl. Despite the knox, artistic swimming is an amazing sport to try 🫶🏼
YES!! Fellow artistic swimmer. I have such thick curly hair and it probably takes me a good hour+ to soak out all the Knox and Bobby pins. My record is 105😬
I did artistic swimming for a long time and I still can't get over how bad it smelled and how applying it felt like a giant dog was liking my hair, but you seemed to enjoy it somewhat and im happy you found it fun. Also heres some tips for if you ever want to do this again. Buy disposable paint brushes to apply the Knox and have a towel around your neck for incase there's runoff and have someone else around who can help you with knowing. Also this is optional but if you want you can add glitter to the Knox to make it pretty.
@@StonedSammieSue because it’s made to look like they’re not wearing cap’s. it’s a for water dance performance. To look more professional. If it was for sport then a cap would be needed.
I had to do this once for synchronized swimming and yes it smelled but we added mint oil to it and it definitely helped. To take it out, you use pineapple juice to melt it. Don’t ask me how it works, it just does.
For anyone wondering: Gelatine is just protein, and pineapple juice contains proteolytic(breaks down proteins) enzymes. That's why it works. That's also why your tongue feels prickly after eating pineapple, because it's ''eating'' the flesh on your tongue.
OK artistic swimmer in the chat it actually does not damage our hair actually leaves it rather soft and it comes most of it comes out with personally warm water (though you will be picking out bits for weeks -_-) and yeah this is the most cursed way I have ever seen someone put gel in just why use a brush lady.
As an artistic swimmer, I can say this is the worst part of playing the sport. It’s even worse when you have to put in a big headpiece AND sleep with it in. The things we do for sports. And for some people wondering what it smells like, it kind of smells like rotten milk. It also does work on curly hair, and to get it out, I use the hottest water I can handle and dish soap.

Hi! I’m a competitive swimmer in a youth club. I have swum 2 times a week for the past 6 years and they will NOT let u into the pool with this on ur hair. To protect my hair I usually wet it before and put a little bit of olive oil in it. I also put Vaseline on my face to protect my skin!
i hate how everyone is making it a trend when this is something synchronized swimmers had/have to go through in order to compete. as a former synchronist, it’s unbelievable that this is a trend because you don’t need it knoxed, you’re doing it for fame. it’s really painful and they complain of how like, “oh it’s going to ruin my hair”. but you chose that life. nobody forced you into it. just unbelievable what people do for fame.
Synchronized Swimmers or as of the 2020 Olympics, Artistic Swimmers use this gel technique to slick back their hair for competitions! The Knox gelatin can actually be good for your hair, it makes it really soft! You would just melt this out in hot water. This is from an Artistic Swimmer, hope this helps!
You’ll actually have to manually take a shower and SCRUB your hair for minutes to come and also this stuff she puts called Knox never comes out in one day I’ll have to all slowly come out in a week
Same reason normal swimmers wear swim caps. But since artistic swimmers want to look artistic, well, this looks better. She didn’t apply it very well though.
Quick explanation from a former synchronized swimmer: we do this for competitions. Yes I know it’s horrible and there “has to be a better way” but this is how it’s done. You mix knox gelatin with water and use a rubber barbecue brush to lather on a huge layer so it hardens like a swim cap and your hair stays in place. I remember after swimming my team and I would each have brought one bottle of conditioner each just for that post swim shower to take off the gelatin from our hair. Oh and also it stinks like wet dog and drips down your body and re-dries and pulls all your peach fuzz. It’s gross 🤡 Edit: we don’t use swim caps for competitions because it looks more uniform to just have a bun cap and gelled scalp. Synchro performances are all about the aesthetics and also swim caps can fall off! That’s the last thing you want during your routine (judges take points off for everything)
I have wavy hair and so does my friend we both do synchro (well I used to but same thing) and I see why u would be concerned it’s a pain to take glasses from behind my ears but with a good wash in warm water it should melt

@savannahmorris08 maybe try putting conditioner in and leaving it in for a few hours till it's crunchy then do the whole bun and gelatine
@@L.a.77 I would do that but putting conditioner first would make the gelatin fall out in the competition pool (which is not good!!)
@@savannahmorris08 even if you were to let it dry before hand?
@@L.a.77 yes the conditioning agents/oils in the conditioner would make it so the gelatin doesn't stick to your hair and scalp :)
