It is an escape behaviour; don’t stop educating, keep strong pairing, see what you are trying to educate, is of child’s level....don’t stop him verbally rather don’t allow her to put fingers in mouth, try to ignore the spitting if not spitting on you and distract him with something of his interest, don’t react on his behaviour.... he will quit after few attempts.
