    TIMMMM!! I have 3 of those sweatshirts and they are the best. Stretchy but tough enough to stand up to trail wear. They keep you protected from the sun, are breathable enough that you can wear them in the heat, provide just enough warm if there is cloud cover and it works well over or under any other shirts and jackets I have.
    Anyone else out there, if you want the best over shirt for outside then I think it’s called the crater lake hoodie.
    Clothes aside, really enjoying the gradual build up of the cruiser. With so many channels just doing huge custom permanent mods to their trucks, you guys are doing something flexible, accessible and showing off some gear I haven’t seen anywhere else. Honestly I didn’t even know national Luna made something like this. Your setup would work just as well in a truck bed or an small crossover.

      This shirt is amazing! It has already made our list of our favorite gear, it will be coming in a video soon! Thanks for the kind words!

    Seen a few Australian's with that box, seems to be a good option.

    Great video and awesome setup, thank you for sharing this. And you're in one of my favorite places, Steens mountain! One small correction, it is not actually a mountain range. It is in fact one single monolithic fault block mountain. It just happens to be a really big one. 30 miles long or so. It's a common mistake. Cheers!

    Looks like a possible solution for my cargo trailer camper conversion. I had something "homemade similar" that was connected from the starting battery. I never thought of running from the alternator and not putting extra stress on the start battery. I like the idea that it can be mobile if things change. Thanks for the update and safe travels..

    I’ve got the same power setup, works great for moving the aux power between my rigs.

    I have a fridge set at -18C with 200w of solar on the roof of my Pajero and a 110ah lithium battery. In 3 years, I've only had to plug the fridge into mains power (220v in Oz) once!

    Thank you for this! I am mulling over the portable options as I know my power needs will increase as we work from the road and add in additional powered items. The desire to keep things separate and clean is definitely high. Can you dive in a bit deeper as to why you went with this setup versus a high-capacity, all-in-one, portable option similar to the smaller on you used or Goal Zero, WaganTech, Jackery, etc. options? I am considering one of these for the high capacity lithium-ion batteries and simplicity, but want something robust to handle pretty much anything I would ever need. I've used a 550w option before and it worked well for remote work for a day powering a laptop and hotspot, as well as powering a portable USB fan and cell phones, but I know our needs will increase when we both are working remotely and adding in a fridge.

      We've had bad experiences with the all in one power solutions. One brand in particular would sponsor friends and/or some of the events we work and many of us got to the point where we didn't want them even when given for free.
      The power ratings seemed grossly overrated or maybe there were other internal problems making them run out of power quicker than expected. We also had some totally fail and no longer charge.
      The quality of some of the brands you mention seem to be focused on weekend light use. We wanted to have higher quality components and more power than most of the self contained units. This way we can chose what size inverter, battery, charger controller, solar controller etc.
      Our current battery is about 1,500W of power.
      It's been great to have so much power, but I like knowing that we can upgrade to a bigger battery once technology moves forward.
      We're keeping the current all in one charger for lighter duty applications like trips in our FJ40 for a long weekend.

    Seen some interesting solar panels that fix to the hood. Could be an option to keep roof clean.

      I've seen those. It seems like a great option to trickle some charge in without going for a full array. Cheers!

    Is it a good move to upgrade your alternator or can you just run off the stock

    • @SaltySunriseSailing
      @SaltySunriseSailing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally I prefer stock. I've had bad experiences with high output alternators reliability. Also, the stock can achieve more than the maximum our DC/DC charger can take in anyway. Cheers,

    The specs for the battery you linked show safe operating temperatures for charging at 32°F ~ 113°F and discharging: -4°F ~ 131°F. Does underhood placement make sense? Or is "safe" just a recommendation and only performance is affected?

    • @SaltySunriseSailing
      @SaltySunriseSailing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll ask the experts to chime in. Personally, since we've had the lithium starting batteries in the last couple trucks without issue I think it's okay and I would, but I can't say if it's okay. @antigravity

      Great question! In this case the temps here are referring to the internal temperature of the battery itself which is generally a bit warmer/cooler than ambient due to insulation and electrical flow. These numbers are a safe recommendation keeping in mind the fact that the BMS in the battery can step in as you reach the extremes of these parameters to stop any battery damage. We have batteries in vehicles across all environments such as Tim and Kelsey's here that have been operating flawlessly for years no matter what environment they find themselves in.
