I love Raymond so much, I hate when people tell me "YoU jUsT lIkE hIm BeCaUsE He wAs PoPuLaR". It really just is because he's my favourite smug villager, and he always reminds me that moving to my islands the best because I lived there. He's adorable. I do agree that the villager market blowing him up for absolutely no reason was odd. I do really love this cutie cat, and a lot of the new villagers too. They tickle the aesthetic part of my brain that loves these cute pastels and themes that they gave my island. If you like the popular villagers, well they're popular for a reason, theyre cute and they're fun.
I wasn't part of the Raymond era unfortunately. But I did manage to get 2 of my dreamies on my island for some time. Bella and Cherry. I love rock music and I instantly clicked with those 2 villagers.
he was my first campsite visitor and i hated him at first because I hadn’t interacted with the fandom at all and didn’t know he was so popular💀 I’ve actually grown to really love him and he’s the only “og” villager left on my island and I’ll always keep him with me. I love him so much and I’m best friends with him.
I just recently got Raymond when he visited my campsite. I’ve also got Kid Cat and Ankha, but with Raymond in town one of my greatest goals is complete, so now I think I’m going to try to create an all-cat island.
The main reason I loved Raymond is that he wound up playing the lead in "Hamilton: An Animal Crossing Musical." The creator of this amazing TH-cam play only used Raymond because he happened to get him in the campsite. I'm glad he did, because I wound up getting really attached to Lin Manuel Miranda's voice coming out of that cat.
Raymond was my first campsite villager, and I got him back when I was young and dumb and didn’t know how popular he was. I love his design, so I’ll never let him go. Over 2 and a half years strong!
I got raymond veeery early on during a (pretty short) villager hunt, I wasn't looking for anyone in particular but ended up with him. He hasn't left since bc I've grown really attached to him
I share an island with my sister and when Raymond came to our campsite, my sister got so excited that she immediately made him move in and we had a wedding for her and Raymond. Pretty weird, but whatever.
Idc what anyone says Raymond is my baby! He is my 6th campsite villager and when I got him I was so happy! He is the villager that has been staying the longest on my island and he is never leaving. None of my villagers are leaving I love them all. I have had all of them for a long time. Thank you Raymond for the happiness, company and support.
Raymond was my starter smug villager. ACNH was my first animal crossing game & I had no idea he was so popular. He was adorable and I loved him. Imagine my surprise finding out he was a hot commodity lmfaooo
I got Raymond, Sherb and Judy all while villager hunting and I am still very proud of that. Sherb took the longest with over 200 tickets and Judy was like 40.
I still remember that one day I was hunting for a Jock Villager because the one I had moved out, and suddenly I visited an island where Raymond was. I didn't got him to my island because I don't like having the same villagers as everyone has, so I kept hunting and I encounterd Antonio. He might not be as special as Raymond is, but he has the personality I was hunting for and he even was one of the first villagers of the first island I've got in my first Animal Crossing game, so now I still have him in my island and I remember that story. Very months later because of Raymond's encounter I got a bit of desire of getting also him, but I haven't hunted for him because the villagers I want to run out don't want to, and with the time I've lost wanting to get him. I hope I'll someday want to play more the game to get him and continue with my island.
I remember I got Raymond on a villager hunt while looking for Kyle, I absolutely freaked out because I find him adorable, and it only took 3 nmt I still have him (and Kyle too 😁)
I made a couple hundred bucks selling Raymonds on ebay for $5 a pop; they weren't "hacked in", per se, but I used the homebrew loader to restore my save each time.
As someone who likes Raymond because of the New Wave/80s businessman aesthetic, I was surprised to see how many other people liked him. It still feels kind of surreal to me, I can't think of another wildly popular character from anything with his aesthetic, except for maybe Herbert West.
2020 was one of weirdest, worst but best years for sure. You just had to be there and experience people going nuts over a virtual cat. I miss 2020 in some sense honestly
I got him in my campsite eventually and felt like I had to get him despite him not fitting my island aesthetic xD I'm quite fond of tsundere cat. He's oddly sweet.
I stopped playing the game a few months into the pandemic and my last transaction was getting Raymond through NMT trades on Nookazon. This was the era before hacked Treasure Islands and free villagers. Unfortunately I chose to kick off my first resident, Jay, to be replaced by Raymond. So I took my long break from the game but from time to time I'd feel regret over replacing Jay. Just last week I came back to the game, booted Raymond off, and got Jay back to replace him! I feel balanced again! Moral of the story: everyone forms their own personal attachments! Stick with your gut feeling because popular dreamies are not for everyone!
Maybe its just that people are now realizing that they have neglected so many villagers that they haven't seen before now that they now all of sudden want them badly. Things have really changed since the Raymond Hype died out.
Man, I remember that I got scammed from Raymond because I was so eager to have him on my island. It was around 300-400 tickets I believe that I lost there. Then someone gave me Raymond legit, for free because they saw my scam post on a group page and felt bad for me. Also another generous and kind player gave me the exact tickets that I lost and man, I never felt so happy and gracious of them for giving me Raymond and got my tickets that I lost. You can say, karma just got the scammer good
While I was watching this (after you mentioned the popular villagers) I actually got Sasha & Shino in my amiibo pack I opened up. What a coincidence! (5:36 for reference)
It took me over two years and four islands to realize that I'll always get the same personality types regardless how many times I reset the game. Thanks for the confirmation!
I will always be annoyed that Raymond didn't first appear in City Folk where he would of been perfect as the "face" of that game and that Audie didn't become the "face" of New Horizons. But I do like that for some reason some of Raymond's popularity rubbed off onto Marshall and now I see them as the office duo.
I remember going into my tent saying to myself “whoever is in here I will be happy.” And then Raymond was there and I had never spent 10,000 bells so fast
I think Raymond's decline can be attributed to 3 factors: 1) The game itself. While it does still have many active players, it's nowhere near what it was 2 years ago, and when the game declines so, too, shall the characters within it. 2) Amiibo Series 5 cards. With characters introduced in both the base game and update being added to the Amiibo roster, there was another avenue opened to get the new villagers like Raymond. This factor should be small given the random nature of the official Amiibo card packs, but something helping to drive it is the fact that Amiibos are incredibly easy and cheap to make, so all it took was for one person to pull his card, scan it to their phone to copy its data, and upload it to the internet to make Raymond easily obtainable for anyone. 3) The new villagers following the update. While it may be the smallest factor of the 3, having new faces introduced will have made a fair number of players find a new favorite and drop others like Raymond in the process. There could be other factors as well, such as hype just calming down with time, but I think those are the major 3
Raymond was my favorite since the beginning because of its design. I played acnh since march 20th and never got him since two weeks ago Was so happy jfjdkebzjz
I recently restarted my island since it’s been so long since I touched my last one. In my most recent villager hunting, I managed to find Raymond on my 3rd ticket. I felt pretty lucky but also a bit bad knowing that he’s (or was) one of the most sought after characters & many would spend hundreds or even thousand nook mile tickets to find him. Even though he might not be as popular nowadays, I’m keeping him on my island cuz I do love a lot of the cat villagers
I got Raymond in my campsite and I convinced him to move onto my island solely for the flex lol. But I like him. I haven't let him leave my island yet. Also I actually really like Chops T^T I clowned on him too at first but then when I got him he actually became one of my favorites. I let him move off my island and tbh I still miss him
New Horizons was my first Animal Crossing game, and I still remember seeing the leaks of the new villagers before the game came out. Out of all of the new villagers introduced the "cute heterochromia cat" was my favorite hands down. After the game came out and we learned their names, I was actually really surprised by how popular he was! I'd initially wanted him on my island, but after seeing how hard he was to get (and the fact that I already had one Smug dreamie a la Kidd), I ended up not getting him until he randomly showed up in my campsite last year. I still have him because I'm trying to collect all the villager photos, but to be honest, now that I have him, he just doesn't hit the same way that Kidd does. Still a good villager for sure, at least. I'd be happy to have him again.
I know that it’s not the case but I like to think that this single cat is what started the whole acnh economy just by being interesting and as someone that had a 2 year hiatus from the game still want him
I played New Leaf during the beginning of lockdown. And I got Marshal on accident. And he had a lot to say. He was like a... Online best friend. This was before the standard text. And people LOVED Marshal. And I loved him then and loved him now. He's the smug for me. But I actually like many smugs. Kidd, Ken, Kyle, Henry, Keaton ect. He's just a pretty face. That's all glasses cat is. But he is a life saver when you restart and the smug arrives
I remember that i was doing a raymond hunt, had gotten Erik, who was a dreamie of mine, and while trying to get rid of a red cranky octopus...he just...showed up in my campsite.. Happiest day for me. Though Raymond's popularity has fallen he still has a place on my island and my heart.
Poor guy, he's been loved, loved more, then hated and sold and used as a scam ;-; Though my island was not blessed with his pressance, I still find him adorable. That's it, not some worshiped god of ACNH, just an adorable cat villager
I don’t care if he’s popular or boring to some. I love cats, I live suits, and his different colored eyes are awesome. That’s why he’s my second favourite villager.
On my first island I had Roald and HATED him but I knew he was popular and just put him up for auction on nookazon. I didn't want to exploit too many nook miles out of people so I left it up to them and ended up getting 100nmt and I still have some till this day.
Weirdly, my 3rd villager wasn’t a smug villager, it was Ellie. And my first campsite villager was Raymond, and at the time I didn’t know how popular/rare he was
I do wanna add that villager trading wasn't a new thing with Raymond (even if he was probably the first ppl sold on eBay for $1000) Back in the 3ds era with New Leaf everyone was losing their minds over Marshal and Julian lol
I still love Raymond. I don't like him because he's popular, I like him just because his character...And is a cat so for you know, for me is a smash guaranteed lol
I remember how just everyone wanted to have Raymond on their island. Everyone was talking about him when the game first released. For me, my first campsite villager was Marshal, so I didn't feel too jealous of the people who got Raymond as their first campsite villager. I do remember hearing the people who got characters like Rodney as their first campsite villager complaining, though.
I got my switch back in 2021 for Christmas and got Raymond as my first campsite villager. I had searched online about him the day before and it said how it would be pretty good if I got him and when I did I was happy! It wasn’t until I started to look at Nookazon that I realized he was popular. Even though he is worth quite a bit (could be less now idk) I love him and will never trade him away. Even though sometimes I just want a villager because there rare or popular like marina i really wanted because she was rare but she is so sweet that she became my fav villager (besides Raymond) also thanks if u read this far have a good day!
In my two years of playing New Horizons I have had: Raymond, Ankha, Judy, Sasha, Maple, and Marshal all on my island and eventually gotten rid of. I have also seen Shino and likely other really popular rare villagers in this game multiple times in my campsite or mystery tour. I just want Gwen.
I have Gwen and I’d be so happy to give her to you if you’re still looking!!!! I always feel bad about letting villagers leave but I don’t plan to keep her, so knowing she’s wanted somewhere else would make me feel way better about it. I’d have to get her in boxes which could take a bit of time but let me know if you want her!
@@EmL-kg5gn I appreciate the offer, but since I posted this I have since found Gwen on mystery tour so I am no longer looking. I appreciate the offer a lot though, thank you
I actually buckled down and did a proper villager hunt for Raymond. I had gotten Marshal as my camp smug so that was fine too. It took 68 NMTs but I got him! Also trust me, Ankha was always kind of popular. Zone used her because she was popular.
I do really like Raymond, I have a soft spot for the cats, but I just started playing animal crossing only a couple months ago so I missed out on all the Raymond drama. He still seems to be pretty popular. I was blessed to have Rudy be one of my first two villagers and I don't think I will ever let him leave my island. I can't stand jocks but Rudy is an adorable cat so he get's to be the one and only jock on my island.
just got raymond last week due to an amiibo card. wanted him since day 1 and i’m so happy i finally got him. planned my island to be a wolves only island with one exception: raymond
I got Hans too and I was so surprised to see that he is unpopular, Hans is a Yeti! A mystical creature! Magical! I thought that is so amazing, far more distinct than a cat but each to their own of course. I have weird taste anyways, Cashmere is my favourite sheep because she looks like a Knaaren from Rayman 3 and that is one of my favourite games ever x)
When i first saw this cat i instantly fall in love him him.. since today i have his amiibo stuck in picture frame on my wall xD I didnt even played acnh for 1 year xD
I still can’t believe how popular he got so fast. I never expected people to be buying him with actual money or trading millions of bells for him. Its sorta amazing how much craziness he caused. I still don’t have him but I like his business style outfit

Totally agree
i got him in my island and in my campsite if pocket camp too and i love him so much
I wasn't part of the Raymond era unfortunately. But I did manage to get 2 of my dreamies on my island for some time. Bella and Cherry. I love rock music and I instantly clicked with those 2 villagers.
Ooo awesome! Cherry and Scoot are my first islanders. 👏 I wouldnt let them go
he was my first campsite visitor and i hated him at first because I hadn’t interacted with the fandom at all and didn’t know he was so popular💀 I’ve actually grown to really love him and he’s the only “og” villager left on my island and I’ll always keep him with me. I love him so much and I’m best friends with him.
I just recently got Raymond when he visited my campsite. I’ve also got Kid Cat and Ankha, but with Raymond in town one of my greatest goals is complete, so now I think I’m going to try to create an all-cat island.
Seriously do it 🙌
Do it! Share the dream address!
I screamed out loud finding Dreamy Julian as my first camper. Like fully overjoyed, he and Chrissy are the og villagers of the island
Same! I have mine in Hamilton coats
And the fact this video is still getting so many views really shows his impact even if he's not the icon he once was
Raymond was my starter smug villager. ACNH was my first animal crossing game & I had no idea he was so popular. He was adorable and I loved him. Imagine my surprise finding out he was a hot commodity lmfaooo
I think Ankha and Raymond went through similar phases of
Before the internet: This cat is kinda unique
After the internet: This cat is pretty hot
I mean, ankha was s3xualised the moment the game came out in 2002.
I remember I got Raymond on a villager hunt while looking for Kyle, I absolutely freaked out because I find him adorable, and it only took 3 nmt
I still have him (and Kyle too 😁)
i got raymond in my campsite during the tutorial. he’s been with me for a while and i’m never getting rid of him
I made a couple hundred bucks selling Raymonds on ebay for $5 a pop; they weren't "hacked in", per se, but I used the homebrew loader to restore my save each time.
1:15 “Not really ones people call ‘cuties’”
Marshal and Chadder: *am I a joke to you?*
As someone who likes Raymond because of the New Wave/80s businessman aesthetic, I was surprised to see how many other people liked him. It still feels kind of surreal to me, I can't think of another wildly popular character from anything with his aesthetic, except for maybe Herbert West.
Back in the New Leaf days, Marshal was the original Raymond.
I don’t play Animal Crossing, but I really want to, and I really want Raymond specifically because he’s just a little dapper guy
Stick with your gut feeling because popular dreamies are not for everyone!
still cant believe quillson had a higher average price than raymond on nookazon at one point.
You can say, karma just got the scammer good
Beardo was my first dude, never letting him go. He’s my business man. He’s barista/architect/ice cream guy- just from everything I give him.
While I was watching this (after you mentioned the popular villagers) I actually got Sasha & Shino in my amiibo pack I opened up. What a coincidence! (5:36 for reference)
I found Raymond in my campsite, along with Judy and Audie. I keep them all on my island just to flex.
It took me over two years and four islands to realize that I'll always get the same personality types regardless how many times I reset the game. Thanks for the confirmation!
Honestly I don’t care what people say,, he’s still my favorite villager
I will always be annoyed that Raymond didn't first appear in City Folk where he would of been perfect as the "face" of that game and that Audie didn't become the "face" of New Horizons. But I do like that for some reason some of Raymond's popularity rubbed off onto Marshall and now I see them as the office duo.
I liked Raymond before I knew he was popular. Idk why but something about that business cat makes me happy
I remember going into my tent saying to myself “whoever is in here I will be happy.” And then Raymond was there and I had never spent 10,000 bells so fast
I think Raymond's decline can be attributed to 3 factors:
1) The game itself.
Even though the Raymond hype is dead, I still love him. Thankfully I got his amiibo card with most of the amiibo cards I needed. ❤
I was one of the lucky ones and I still have Raymond to this day.
Raymond was my favorite since the beginning because of its design. I played acnh since march 20th and never got him since two weeks ago
Was so happy jfjdkebzjz
I recently restarted my island since it’s been so long since I touched my last one. In my most recent villager hunting, I managed to find Raymond on my 3rd ticket. I felt pretty lucky but also a bit bad knowing that he’s (or was) one of the most sought after characters & many would spend hundreds or even thousand nook mile tickets to find him. Even though he might not be as popular nowadays, I’m keeping him on my island cuz I do love a lot of the cat villagers
The pikachu of the animal crossing world title belongs to isabelle in my opinion
I got Raymond in my campsite and I convinced him to move onto my island solely for the flex lol. But I like him. I haven't let him leave my island yet.
Also I actually really like Chops T^T I clowned on him too at first but then when I got him he actually became one of my favorites. I let him move off my island and tbh I still miss him
I was so surprised people didn't like Hippeux, I find him adorable
But he is a life saver when you restart and the smug arrives
i love raymond and always will, even before he was popular
Yeah people were so blind by Raymond that they forgotten all about the other villagers
My first campsite villager was Phil, I've always wanted him and loved him so much, I couldn't be happier 😭😭
I love Hans, such a chill guy.
Poor guy, he's been loved, loved more, then hated and sold and used as a scam ;-; Though my island was not blessed with his pressance, I still find him adorable. That's it, not some worshiped god of ACNH, just an adorable cat villager
I got Henry as my first smug and I still have him to this day! Love that little guy~
I don’t care if he’s popular or boring to some. I love cats, I live suits, and his different colored eyes are awesome. That’s why he’s my second favourite villager.
marshal has been with me since the beginning of new leaf, hes my raymond
On my first island I had Roald and HATED him but I knew he was popular and just put him up for auction on nookazon. I didn't want to exploit too many nook miles out of people so I left it up to them and ended up getting 100nmt and I still have some till this day.
you know what they say... everybody loves Raymond
My first smug villager was Marshal. He still on my island, after 2 years.
Everybody loves Raymond
I got Raymond on my island with Ankha, which I hear is also widely liked? Idk.
Weirdly, my 3rd villager wasn’t a smug villager, it was Ellie. And my first campsite villager was Raymond, and at the time I didn’t know how popular/rare he was
My smug villager was Kyle. Love that little punk rocker wolf dingus.
I found Raymond at my campsite a few months ago, I couldn't get him to move in without losing a bestie.
I do wanna add that villager trading wasn't a new thing with Raymond (even if he was probably the first ppl sold on eBay for $1000) Back in the 3ds era with New Leaf everyone was losing their minds over Marshal and Julian lol
but about the smug villagers in the campsite, theres always marshal?
I still love Raymond. I don't like him because he's popular, I like him just because his character...And is a cat so for you know, for me is a smash guaranteed lol
I remember how just everyone wanted to have Raymond on their island. Everyone was talking about him when the game first released. For me, my first campsite villager was Marshal, so I didn't feel too jealous of the people who got Raymond as their first campsite villager. I do remember hearing the people who got characters like Rodney as their first campsite villager complaining, though.
Raymond was the orginal NFT.
I appreciate the offer a lot though, thank you
@@Camo1718YT I’m so happy you found her!!!
I actually buckled down and did a proper villager hunt for Raymond. I had gotten Marshal as my camp smug so that was fine too. It took 68 NMTs but I got him!
Also trust me, Ankha was always kind of popular. Zone used her because she was popular.
I once saved like 40 tickets for the business cat once but turns out, I wasted all that tickets because I got him in 3 TICKETS!
Raymond does never "fall".
i freaked out when i got barold in my campsite lmao barold is amazing
I do really like Raymond, I have a soft spot for the cats, but I just started playing animal crossing only a couple months ago so I missed out on all the Raymond drama. He still seems to be pretty popular. I was blessed to have Rudy be one of my first two villagers and I don't think I will ever let him leave my island. I can't stand jocks but Rudy is an adorable cat so he get's to be the one and only jock on my island.
I got Raymond in my first pack of amiibo cards and recently I got him to come to my island three days in a row, just so he can remain there, lol
just got raymond last week due to an amiibo card. wanted him since day 1 and i’m so happy i finally got him. planned my island to be a wolves only island with one exception: raymond
1:21 aside from henry, he seems pretty chill
This is like a flippin documentary, I love this.
When i first saw this cat i instantly fall in love him him.. since today i have his amiibo stuck in picture frame on my wall xD I didnt even played acnh for 1 year xD
He's so popular because everyone loves Raymond.
Raymond will always be one of my favourite villagers ever…of all time xD he’s one of my dreamies, for a lot of reasons
I still can’t believe how popular he got so fast. I never expected people to be buying him with actual money or trading millions of bells for him. Its sorta amazing how much craziness he caused. I still don’t have him but I like his business style outfit
