      @@JohnSmith-zw8vp at least we never saw anyone wih duck-lips....people were either beautiful or ordinary. Nowadays ordinary people (and many beautiful ones too sadly) make themself look "beautiful" and we know the results...one poor example is Marie O. born so beautiful but look what she did to her face, starting from her teeth.. she can' even laugh naturally anymore, she can only streach her mouth but her face is not laughing. Sad,sad,sad. This happens when you try too much.

      To be fair, there hadn't really been any studies done on the short and long term effects of smoking at that time, and people had been smoking for nearly 500 years so it wasn't something people really thought about or considered. It was only after the research and studies were done that smoking was seen as a bad thing and that didn't really happen until the 80's and 90's when I was a kid.

      In early I Love Lucy shows both Lucy and Desi smoked. And in the very earliest Father Knows Best, "Jim Anderson" smoked. But people generally DID know that it wasn't actually good for you. "Smoker's Cough" was a regular morning malady for many. And many women quit smoking while pregnant knowing that it wasn't good for the fetus.

      Velcro was patented in Switzerland in 1955, but I don’t remember seeing it in America before the 1970s. I don’t think she used Velcro on this collection, because of the date and because I didn’t hear that “rrrip” sound of Velcro being unfastened. I didn’t see zippers being opened, either. The attachments must have been done with hooks or snaps, or both.

    Crazy that he has to smoke to promote the product! Crazy!!

    • @censusgary
      @censusgary 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cigarette advertising funded a lot of early television, and smoking killed many early TV presenters. Garry Moore, seen here, had throat cancer, and later died of emphysema. Bill Cullen and Henry Morgan, two of this show’s four panelists, both died of lung cancer. So did Edward R. Murrow, the king of 1950s television.

    • @holylandfan3275
      @holylandfan3275 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was to make the cig companies rich and for depopulation so people would die early. That's why they started MANY advertising campaigns for women to smoke, as well. Virginia Slims, etc. Early death means less people in the world to use the resources, plus more money for the cig companies. Truth.

    • @holylandfan3275
      @holylandfan3275 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Besides the above I just mentioned, it also makes the doctors and medical companies rich to have ill patients from the results of smoking.

    • @censusgary
      @censusgary 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@holylandfan3275 I’m not sure it makes doctors and hospitals richer to have people smoking. True, the smokers are sicker, but they also don’t live as long, so they won’t pay bills for as many years. Killing your customers is generally not a good business strategy.
