This is typically a work of the "second manner" of Fauré. Ths slow movement seems to evoke bells - a very rare imitation in Fauré('s work, which is generally of a pure abstract lyrism.
It has the reaching upward sequences found in the nocturnes and barcarolles. It is a lot like Brahms in the thematic material and the voicing and interplay of the instruments. Also there is a lot of Franck's influence.
Good Lord, this rendition really SWINGS. Now I'm wondering if I really prefer the more frequently played Piano Quartet #1. In other words, I may have previously underestimated this piece, and that's the very highest compliment I can give to a group of musicians.
Likely the same performers that played this piece in a masterclass held by Robert Levin at the institute. It is available here on TH-cam and it is unbelievably good; Robert Levin is undoubtedly a genius.
Faure composed some of the finest chamber music of all time, and the Second Piano Quartet is an absolute masterpiece.
An absolutely wonderful piece of chamber music. Just listen to how the instruments talk to each other. The art of composing chamber music.
Sparkling performance. Seeing the music on the page just makes it all the more remarkable.
Magnifique ! Surtout le mouvement lent, d'une rare beauté. Merci Gabi, l'Ariégeois !!
Le seul Ariéjois qu'on connait dans le monde.
exquisite masterpiece. one of the
great chamber works of all time.
thank you for posting it.
i can't believe it is playable so quickly (all fast movements), jesus christ... it's not musically "too much" but technically, wow

Incomparablement meilleur que le premier quatuor.

Thanks for uploading, but who are the players from Ravinia?
Qui joue ?
Je crois que c'est Ravinia's Steans Institute

Melodically undistinguished. His best chamber music is his last chamber music.
