One of the most magical things about this period of Conan is watching Barry Windsor-Smith's art evolve. He went from a Kirby disciple to incorporating influences from the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood & art deco to create something really magical. Throw in the introduction of Elric to our 70's mind-set those first 25 issues were really special.
I like the collected editions, this one looks to be put together well. Wish they gave you an edition with newsprint, mutes the colors so it's not so cartoony. Slick paper is good for the digital coloring, which they should've done. I still have my old Conan's, but it may be worth checking out.
The original story and artwork, and print format is really amazing for the Savage Sword of Conan omnibus volumes (at least for volume 1 to 8 under Marvel). I already have the volumes 1 to 8 of the Savage Sword of Conan (SSOC) the original Marvel Years. I'm glad Titan is continuing this. I hope I get the same quality like the Marvel omnibus volumes. I pre-ordered Savage Sword of Conan vol. 9 by Titan it has 1,072 pages. I plan to also pre-order the volume 10. But I looked at the pages, it's only 516 pages. Why drop the pages down to half and the price didn't dropped much. I had all the volumes 1 to 8, the pages were at least almost 800 pages and more ( Vol 1 - 1040 pages, Vol 2 - 856 pages, Vol 3 - 944 pages, Vol 4 - 976 pages, Vol 5 - 768 pages, Vol 6 - 1016 pages, Vol 7 - 936 pages, Vol 8 - 1056 pages, Vol 9 - 1072 pages, Vol 10 - 516 pages). Lowest page count was on volume 5, 768 pages. For the upcoming volume 10, why is it only 516 pages? Is it mini version of the regular omnibus series? I hope Titan is more consistent with the pages numbers to be roughly around the same in the 900s and 1000s pages, it's feels like they are short changing or downsizing on volume 10. I hope it's not a trend with lower page number or lower comic issues per omnibus volume. Please Titan, keep volumes pages consistent to 900 to 1000 pages or about 15 to 18 issues per volume. It will be more appeal to see a collection of thick hardcover bound omnibus volumes. And it's a little sad or miserable to see one or a few thin volumes in between like they are neglected didn't get the same love and attention as the full volume ones. I hope you know what I mean.
Hi Jess, I have Conan in all shapes and forms! As he is my #1 favorite! But this together with Buscemi and Chan’s art is my favorite period (still Roy Thomas and later Bruce Jones writing)! Thank you Jess!
I'm a fan of whatever I can get too. Robert E Howard only wrote twenty one Conan stories, one of which was a novel, Roy Thomas clearly loved those tales, the majority of the comics are his own creation exploring Howard's rich Hyborean Age while remaining true to that world and the character of Conan, a skill most pastiche writers are unable to do. Enjoyed this overview / review, looks great, Heroic Signatures & Titan have done an excellent job. Definately a book I would like to own, not read these stories in a long time.
Thanks for showing the build. I have lots of Titan HCs, but none are omnis, of course. I’ve always been very impressed with the quality of Titan books’ construction. They’ve been much better than Marvel production quality. Much. If we have delays so that we get higher quality book construction, then I’m ok with that. If anything, I wish Marvel would have better quality control from their printers, regardless of whether they’re in China or Turkey. It’ll be interesting to see if Titan can maintain the same quality standards for omnis as they do for their other HCs.
I was VERY impressed with how easy it was to relax the spine on this book. I really didn't even need to do it! It just naturally opened up nicely and the binding looks great!
BWS is a legend, the current run by Jim Zub has me wanting to go back and read some of the early stuff. Never read Conan before this current run so I'm looking at this and the Savage Sword omni.
@@OmnidogsVault I have the first two Marvel volumes still - they had nice bindings with the nice eyes but they started to change as the series went on with the smaller eyes etc so nice to know if I want to pick up any of the later volumes these reprints will be a good option.
These looks so nice, Im so glad Titan are giving us this second chance to get our hands on these. Btw, does this one have the Elric crossover or is that left out due to rights issues?
@@OmnidogsVault Okay! Because Conan the Barbarian #14 and 15 I believe is the cross over with Elric. And if these omnibuses does not contain that (the Marvel did I believe) I won't get rid off my Epic Collections, because they carry these issues.
Will these be released on Kindle? I know the Marvel ones were available digitally. I don't think I have space (or money) to collect all these in physical format, unfortunately.
I wanted to get the first 4 omnis, but waited too much and went OOP. I wish you had the original to compare colors and content (I think this new one has a few issues removed)
yeah I was wishing I had the original one for comparisons sake, too. But I decided that this is the book that's available so these colors and the content are good enough for me!

I have never went back and read the really old Conan stuff, maybe it's time to give it a shot!
it's some good stuff!!

thanks for always supporting me Tolga!! Glad you dig this book!!
I absolutely love Barry Windsors Smith art in Conan. Glad to see it has so much in one Omnibus 😊
OmniDog reviewing Conan before VFC, proving he is the leading voice of the omni community. Going to put in extra time at work to order this Volume.

the number 1 Marvel came out with is Awesome. now where did you get this book?
Titan sent it to me
The binding looks awesome - great surprise - I wish Marvel was as good

I thought titan said they were going to tone down the colors for this one? it looks exactly the same as the marvel one.
I don't know what to tell you about that, sorry! It all looked good to me but that's just me

I prefer matte paper, the color pop too much on glossy paper.
The recent Penguin Classics Marvel editions were fantastic for matte reproductions
