RIP Dad. It's such an awesome memory. My dad took me to see this Raw here in Rockford. We were in the cheap seats. The very last row, in fact. I was 7 years old I'll never forget. The Undertaker kept coming out throughout the night. We didn't have a clue who that guy was. We thought it was some new biker character with no build-up. We didn't learn it was the Undertaker until his theme music hit at the end of the night.... Thank you Dad.
My final exams are just 15 days away and I study everyday late night but as the notification of bios comes I can't help myself from throwing my books away and come here to get some Saturday night fever
I got a bone to pick with you sir 1. You got " you're as cold as ice You make the sacrifice" stuck in my head 2. I'm constantly thinking who dances better Disco or Alex? 3. I'm thinking Steve muffin Blackman is the most underrated wrestler of all time 4. I suddenly hate glacier 5. I hate Wednesdays because it's not Thursday. 6. I got reliving the war itis and there's no cure. Well done sir!
I've been waiting for this one! This is the only WCW show I went to during the Monday Night War. I was at all of the big WWF events at Joe Louis Arena during that era, but for some reason, this is the only WCW show I made it to.
Does anyone remember picture in picture? I guess nobody needs it these days but I'd normally be watching nitro with WWF/E on the small picture in picture so I knew what was happening on both shows at the same time. I could just hit the swap button to change which one was playing
I was definitely switching back and forth because I didn't have "picture in picture." But I wish I did. The switching back and forth is what most people that I knew were doing and that's why I don't understand why the ratings weren't closer thru most of the Monday night wars.
@@mattk3654 the neilson "ratings" were not absolutely accurate because IF the "counter" or whatever it's called knew that MOST small bars and most sports bars would have Monday nitro parties. And then after viewership swapped they'd have Monday night raw watch parties. So a LOT of more people were watching then the cable companies knew. The same is true for a lot of PPVs I hosted 20 WrestleMania parties so that'd be one "buy" for 50 people.
I've been looking forward to this Episode of Reliving the War for a long time for a few reasons 1, this took place on my birthday and I was 4 years old when Raw and Nitro took place on June 8th 1998 2, Raw took place in my hometown of Rockford Illinois 3, personally I watched both shows on the Network and I enjoyed them both
For being a pretty good sized dude , Scorpio could just float in the air . Man I love that guy ! He will always be high on my list of favorite wrestlers . He didnt do a whole lot in WWF but he was still fn great .
Another great video. It's crazy how deep into 98 we are at this point and we still have the Biker Miker Likers around, like it's insane. Also crazy how, meh, the DX stuff was until the feud proper with the Nation kicked off. These segments have ranged from aight to Boeing. I also think this series has done a good job highlighting how even though the perception of who was doing better has been muddied through time, we can actually see the proof here. For example, even though post BATB 96 and 97 are considered high points where Nitro was killing Raw, we saw a lot of those weeks where the WWF actually had a better show and product and here, 98 is considered the beginning of the mega rise of the WWF, but we've seen in these weeks post Mania that Nitro has been more entertaining and especially the ppvs have been better. Can't wait until we get to the batshit year of 99, cause everybody was wild then!
Well 1998 was a good year for WCW too. The WWF was still in the post Mania classic slow period, even if the Austin Vince stuff are great. From KOTR things will be more clear. WCW was in a good period now, very underrated, but now it's summer, and this means one thing celebrities tag matches
Thought same thing, wasted so much time with DOA, no charisma, no moves, just boring, and wasting the LOD like that for so long just hurts to watch again. And I'm with you, this version of DX really only seem to pop when the WCW Invasion angle took place and the classic parody of the Nation with Mizark 🤣
The nostalgia is real!!!!! Haven't watched wrestling in like 15 years. Any 70s and 80's babies are loving this video. The golden age of wrestling lol. On another note, wwf no mercy and WCW vs nwo revenge = greatest wrestling games of all time.
7:18 I love how the ‘Humanitarian of the Year Award’ is happening before the year is even half over, lol. I like to think the writers were well aware of the silliness of having an end of the year award in June and got a good laugh out of it. 😂
Great to see Norman Smiley in WCW (Nor-man Smile-lay). The Big Wiggle is one of the best taunts. Doug Dillinger was responsible for what happened to the graphics card at the end.
You should've mentioned Bobby Heenan saying that he had an electrical shocker on everyone's seats during the wave. He said that's the reason they keep standing up every 8 seconds. Fun stuff as always from The Brain.
From a fan of the channel right before you started doing reliving the war series I just gotta say well done and thanks again for this fantastic trip down memory lane
I gotta say, I love Bret Hart's look at that time. Those sunglasses and a plain shirt plus jeans. It may look simple, but Bret pulled it off so well. I also kinda like this stage of his Hogan storyline. The way I see it, they went for Bret becoming Hogan's ally, so he could be close to him and strike at the right time. So far, it looks good. But I'm afraid we'll eventually get to the stage, where that story fizzled out. For shame :(
Damn, you can really tell by watching this episode that they're trying to make the NWO black and white cooler because everyone loves the Wolfpac. Seriously, there's like 3 hogan promos on this show and for most of them he's hanging out with some ladies and Rodman. Also they got Ms. Elizabeth now and they got Scott Hall a while back because Hogan realised that he got stuck with the least popular members when the split happened and wanted at least one guy that the crowd loved.
Big thanks for the great videos! I think, watching this WCW Nitro clips now, that Jericho was the most entertaining thing on their TV at the time. Really underrated.
