    This is huge. I am so amazed. I’ve been reading and following prion disease since the early books on Kuru. I’m stunned that the likely connections with Huntingtons, Parkinson’s, etc, creates unbelievable advances in treatment of so many neuro-degenerative ailments. Getting up tomorrow will very exciting! Thank you so much❤💕

    The Pentagon's actions were just shocking. Completely unprincipled. I'm grateful to Microbe TV for highlighting this news. What else is going on that the public don't know about? What sort of country is the US becoming?

      Just another intelligence agency thing. The US and lots of other countries have been doing those when they have the means for decades if not centuries.

    Wow, silencing the promoter of the prion gene sounds so much like commenting out a snippet of computer code.

    Another potential application for this targeted gene silencing technology could be for turning off the gene that causes the human liver to produce the Apo(a) protein that binds to LDL particles. The resulting particle is called Lp(a). Estimates say that about 20% to 30% of the population has this adverse lipoprotein particle. Lp(a) is highly atherogenic and thrombogenic which causes some heart attacks and ischemic strokes. Statins don't lower Lp(a) concentration and may increase it. Primates and hedgehogs apparently are the only mammals that make this perverse Lp(a) particle.

      Yes. The OCEANS phase 3 trial is to reach its conclusion around 2026 and. At yield a gene silencing therapy for lowering LP-a.

    • @stanleysokolow
      @stanleysokolow 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @calvaryassemblyofgodsouthi8046 The drugs currently being tested interfere with the RNA produced from the gene on DNA so it can't code for the apo(a) protein. If successful in blocking the RNA, the drug would still have to be administered periodically as fresh RNA is made from the same old DNA gene. That's a profit stream for the drug company. What would be better is to silence the gene itself on the DNA. If that could be done permanently, the patient would be cured, not just managed.

      @@stanleysokolow I’ve got a 140 LP-a and over 3300 CCS coronary calcium. I’m the Lipitor poster boy as I’ve been on it ever since it was offered. Currently at 80mg/day. No symptoms and no ischemic evidence on treadmill challenge. Had angiogram which showed significant narrowing on most of the coronary arteries. Age 68.

      @@stanleysokolow He advised Mediterranean diet. I’ve given up beef and pork so mostly chicken. I am on Ezetimibe 10mg/day and baby aspirin. Blood pressure well controlled. There is a group of Drs from Australia that blame carbohydrates and sugar as contributing factors and not saturated fats. So much we don’t know. I’ve read people’s stories on TH-cam saying g they underwent open heart bypass surgery solely because of elevated coronary calcium scores like mine and asymptomatic but I don’t see that is realistic. Someone must be exaggerating their symptoms.

    New government administered IQ test: U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials, acting on advice from their advisers, recently directed vaccine manufacturers to produce COVID-19 vaccines with updated formulations.
    CDC advisers earlier Thursday unanimously advised the CDC to recommend the forthcoming vaccines to virtually all Americans, even though no clinical efficacy or safety data are available for them.

      I grew up in a time when women who were intelligent and showed it were told they would remain unmarried for life. Yes, I was told that men prefer docile, simple women and should not take a science course.
      Anti-intellectualism is nothing new in America. It has taken many form, sometimes misogynistic and sometimes religious, often both.
      With the rise of Christian Nationalism in our country antiscience norms have become common again. What I am trying to say is that a modern variation of the dark ages is not inconceivable if some beliefs become more generally accepted than provable information. What is taught in our public schools is constrained in some areas of the country and in some communities. I was taught in a public school that though the curriculum in my basic biology class required teaching about Darwin, that it was just an incorrect theory. My science teacher taught creationism as a viable alternative theory. She continued to teach this dual theories curriculum until retirement. That kind of deliberate antiscientific and belief based thinking is again a growing phenomenon and it affects all of our lives in many ways. Anti-gain of function legislation is just another manifestation of dangerous social engineering by the growing Christian Nationalist trend in America. It's dangerous!
      Science cannot be isolated from politics in this day and age. Activist scientists are essential to our survival as the environment changes and research is throttled by politicians who don't have any idea what they are doing. Activist Supreme Court Justices have just hamstrung various alphabet governmental regulatory agencies that employ scientists and other experts who have regulatory authority. Scientists must become activists to remain free to inquire in these more strident anti-intellectual times.
