It’s interesting to me how many people were bored by this in the comments. I’m a brown belt and leg locker, and thought this was a really suspenseful match. The Nadia girl did a great job defending and answering Helena’s attacks. It really came down to Nadia falling one step behind, but she did a great job and her coach was perfect in his coaching. Great match (to me).
I'm a no-belt grappler, but I still know enough to find it interesting. I don't think bjj competitions should try to appeal only to people, who have no clue what's going on. It's not a huge spectator sport anyways.

I agree. I thought this was highly technical and fun to watch. Leg locking is an entirely different system and if you aren’t well versed in the systems you can’t see the mathematics and problem solving happening here.
I prefer watching a more scrambly wrestly style, but it's interesting seeing a leg lock tactician at work. I mean she took the -1 point and still got the sub, so the strategy worked.

Great match. Crevar kept on the full offensive, and Frankland for long periods actually defended and counter very well for much of the match. Skills for both are way past mine. Excellent, schooled efforts.
Helena's outfit reminds me of Samantha "Valkyrie" Valkenhaus. I don't know if Helena ever saw any of Samantha's matches and took note of the outfit, but it would have been neat if her outfit drew inspiration from Samantha.

I brought it up as an example because it's another contact sport where players with longer hair exist (men or women) and it never stopped them from playing. Unnecessary distraction. If an American football player runs through all the way to the end line and his/her hair crosses the line it accounts as a bodypart. A positive few inches. In volleyball if even a single hair touches the net it counts as a loss in that point. My point is just put your hair up in a bun or something practical.

Then train somewhere else. I train at a gym where guard pulling is taught to be something you wouldn’t want to do. Takedowns, dominant positions in case of the need for strikes, combat JJ to ensure we use a “MMA guard” style, etc. We absolutely teach leg locks, but you can’t NOT teach them.
You can backstep to 50/50 if they aren’t on their knees belly down finishing the heel. Nadia is well aware of when to risk it. If anything she should’ve turned faster before Helena could settle into her bite on the heel
Do not mix sport on mats and violence on street. I believe on street there are no rules and from that reason many jiu jitsu practitioners will release arsenal of restricted techniques. And I believe there are many attackers who want to be on top so guard skills will be very useful.

If you take your leg, from the outside in, above the knee, it should be considered illegal reaping under ADCC rules. Maybe the Enigma Challenge is the enigma of whether it's reaping. 7:56 the triangle really looks above the knee, but she was careful to do it on the side the ref cannot see.
