I've lived in Abingdon for over 30 years and still learnt lots from this wonderful video... thanks so much.

Amazing video. It is a bit surreal watching a tour my hometown, listening to someone narrate the history of places that are so natural to me as someone who's lived in Abgindon all my life. I only learned that bun throwing is a rather unique tradition earlier this year during the jubilee, when I talked to someone from out of town who told me how strange they found the tradition. Before that, I'd always assumed that this was just a regular English tradition that presumably other towns practiced as well, apparently it seems strange to people from elsewhere!

I visited in 1994 when I was over in England to see family. It was so peaceful. I remember the almshouses, they stuck in my mind.

First settled 400,000 years ago? Surely not! Great video - pictures and narrative - as usual 👍.

Only neanderthals were in the area now England 400000 years ago. Found in Kent but dont know about the now Thames Valley area. Anyway they cannot be classed as humans as mentioned here and didn't live in what would be classified settlements. Also I am not sure the Thames was not following its old route north of the Chilterns at that time. But not to take anything away from an excellent video.

Lets say 4000 years BC. Seen a stone axe dated to that date was found. I see the accepted oldest settlement is Amesbury near stonehenge at 8800 BC due to a recent study.
