today i thought i'd do a check-in on my older clip adjusting the tappets on the new 2022 Royal Enfield Classic 350 Re-Born series.
Plus add a bit of useful information which may be of some help to others doing it at a later date.

Thanks, Warro. Your detailed explanation and tips how to access and remove the valve cover in order to adjust the valve tappet clearances is going to be very helpful for any Classic or Meteor owner who wants to perform their own maintenance.

i think it must help some for sure. my first trip in i just removed near everthing and only on the instal thought i could have left this and took that. so now its pretty easy to follow all the way to getting to the tappets and after that theres the other clip in the comments to show more detail.
from start to the actual tappet look there is only one thing which is hard to do. that is get the power lead off the underside of tank near the fuel pump.
its in so tight its hard work...lol

@@avikpodder6267 I own a 2011 500cc Bullet which adjusts its own valves as the engine runs. I do not own a new 350 as it does not have enough power to keep up with traffic in my area. However, I do own several other motorcycles that occasionally need their valve lash checked and I was just commenting on how thoroughly Warro detailed the work to get to and service the valves. I appreciated the work that he did to prepare the clip.

This'll be a good help for anyone who wants to adjust their own valves.
On the Interceptor I found that if I put tiny little dollops of grease in the gasket groove then fit the gasket in the cover, it stays in place when you drop the cover back on.
I'm looking forward to your upcoming series and long-term reviews on the bike.

yeah i think when i pulled it the second time as i had little to do...lol it was easier to place the gasket back on compared to some help first time around.
the 650 gasket is pretty hard to fit compared to this unit.

I have a 2021 Himalayan and done my first ever tappet adjustment in 33 yrs of riding bikes, I watched a vid like yours for the Himalayan, done the adjustment/service AT 3000 miles and voided my warranty, BUT found that the tappets were WAY to tight for the dealer to have ever bothered doing them at the 300 mile first service, so i paid £148/AUS$251 for 1.8ltrs of oil and a new filter..as your video states Worro..it is so easy to do, no rocket scientist brain needed, If i can do it and still have a bike running perfectly sweet with no more stalling BS after 1500 miles, then you all can do it, save a lot of money and not be wasting your time travelling to the dealer to wait 3 hours to get you bike back ..brill instructional vid m8 👍😁

On my Triumph 1965 TR-6 the valves adjustment is so easy. Unscrew the valve cover and there it is. Easy to get to and easy to do. It's a crime that all motorcycles don't have hydraulic valve adjustment. All I do to my Sportster is to change the oil and filter, check ✔️ the primary chain , and your 👍 finished.

I've just had the 300 mile service done on my Classic 350. As I had anticipated, the dealer did not check the tappets, even though RE state that this is mandatory. It appears that some dealers do actually check them and others don't - not sure why this is but not doing them certainly keeps the cost of the service down!..... I decided to do them myself and found this video of yours very helpful, thanks for producing it. Interestingly, I found the same as you - I could not feel any clearance at all on the inlet valve, it was certainly not possible to insert a 0.08mm feeler, and the exhaust was less than 0.18mm, although it did at least have some gap. This begs the question - do they come from the factory like this or is it something which happens in the first 300 miles, and hence is possibly why RE insist on them being checked at this mileage? I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has done them themselves if they found the tappet clearances as you and I have found them. Keep up the good work!

i would be at all surprided if the tappets are done just how the guy feels on the day....lol after-all i bought a 2020 trials 500 and theyt put the front springs in the wrong way. bit hard to believe when they had made the exact bike for 10 years...lol
i actually had to pull the front end myself and turn them the right way. i had absolutely no travel at all.
it got past RE and got past the dealer or the mechanic -they dont care!

if in doubt always good to have the dealer option. if i had been much closer to the dealer rather than 500 klm away....i would have done just that.
although once it is done i think its good for 6000 klm before a re-check.
there is only two parts to this work which is a pita. one is getting the power connecter to the fuel pump out of its deeply recessed slot on the underside of the tank and the other seating the original gasket back on the tappet cover.
more importantly oil and filter change is easy to do...so save some $$$ there

the only reason i did this clip was to show the process in more simple easy to follow moves whch new comers might say- i can do that! or they may not...lol plus first time around i thought i required help to re-fit the gasket as they-enfield- recommend it being pulled and replaced with 500 klm service.
while i had the bike near naked for the fitting of the powertronic fuel x -the tank had to be taken off the bike to get to the sensors...lol i thought i've got nothing better to do can i pull and put the tappet cover gasket back on by myself with no assistance.
the answer is yes i can....lol
now once the tank is off all that split that tappet cover being on the bike and pulled is say 5 minutes and a couple of spanners so i had no choice but give it a pull...lol
they recommend that the tappets must be checked and adjusted on the first service and not sure after that but its either another 6000 to 10000 klm and check again.
either way this is a pushover compared to the gun metal grey 500 i had when from new. i burnt out the inlet valve in 700 klm. i had to pull everything out including the piston/barrel the lot...lol
thats why i say run them in carefully especially enfields -stay away from sports exhausts unless running a booster plug or piggy back ecu.
in total i've lost power on 4 new 500's plus two crapped out totally. my thoughts if you run them in fast..BANG! party over and i know all about that...lol
one minute cruising at 110 kph and 5 minutes later big backfire -cough and splutter and motor gone and barely enough power to get home at 40 kph
so best idea during run-in treat them easy.

@@McRcFly well i always thought in stock form the 500 was a gutless bike...lol and i proved over several bikes all you need to do is this on any euro 3 bike.
      1. good spark plug -ngkbpr6es
      2. good quality sports exhaust - like the one sitting on the 350 at the moment
      3. ejk fueler
enough power then to push you back along the seat
im not into sports filter unless i was running the power commander and it had issues. the ejk was indeed the best and gave good results
      euro 4 bikes.
if you run one of these fast when new without a fueler/booster plug as they are tuned and run hot -expect fireworks.
both motors i burnt out the valves were on new euro 4's thats the latest new style swingarm and abs
i actually thought when i bought the first euro 4 back in 017 or 018 it was quicker-it felt quicker. well it had a reason to be. one day i pulled the right side case... i was planning to do a tripple..lol
change front sprocket-fit vibration plate and remove the decompressor to get rid of the rattling- pulled the case and looked in- the front cog was smaller so there you go...didn't know that and thats why it was quicker off the mark...lol
now there are a few guru on the tube who think they know but lets be realistic - you cant call the shots after owning one bike.all enfield 500 ride different and vibrate different

May I ask please WHY you say ''stay away from sports exhausts/mufflers''?
Are you referring to during the run in period only?
Would you tell me please HOW having/running/installing a sports muffler/exhaust effects the NEW engine/motor?
Are you saying/recommending leaving the stock standard muffler on till AFTER the 500/1000 klm (???) run in period is completed?
Would you agree with me that running in a new bike one should not ride it too fast or too slow and not to labour the motor, and ideally varying the motor speed and gearbox changes 'frequently'. - A perfect scenario basically would be to run in a new vehicle/motor in local suburbia where stop/start traffic is the norm.

@@tpv59 i'd say good idea to run these motors in short runs first and add quite a few heat cycles. if they smell hot don't ride and let them cool down.
give them a good 1000 klm before you add sports exhaust and then i'd only run one with some other fuel management system.
sports exhaust only do one thing...more abuse of the throttle as it becomes addictive.
i know that how i popped inlet valves on two 500's in under 1000 klm ea with sports exhaust on euro 4's and they ran hot and crapped out.
ive had sports exhauts in stock from the day i bought the 350 but smart enough to know...don't push my luck
its possible this new 350 has a better ecu which may compensate for a leaner mixture or it may not-i dont know.
last night i added up i'd bought 22 new enfields -i want one which actually runs well as i'd been sick of the others being faulty and crapping out.
