    I really like your style of demonstration. You give enough information, then immediately start scrolling through a number of settings with minimal talking and well-played examples. Zoom should thank you since I just bought one of these today, largely due to this demonstration.
    Best wishes Sir.

      Agreed, I was on the fence to either get the G5 or wait until the Line 6 Firehawk is released next week. I'm going with this after watching this Bax product demo.

    I made the best decision of my life when I bought this wonderful pedal. It has everything I need, very versatile. It has everything from warm vintage overdrive to modern hi-gain distortion. Thanks for the review, Harry, this was really a big factor on my decision to buy the G5.

    Have used the G3 for some months, very good multiFX considering its price; now I'm using the G5 in the send return of my amp and it's really awesome. I love it. Good work Zoom.

  • @baxshop
    @baxshop  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes, see the website of Zoom, last sentence!
    The G5’s Looper capabilities include 60 seconds of phrase recording and overdubbing. The “sound-on-sound” function allows you to layer guitar sounds as many times as you want in real time and use looped sounds as simple backing tracks. You can even create a “full band” feel with the built-in drum machine and DSP effects for a live solo

  • @MusiCaninesTheMusicalDogs
    @MusiCaninesTheMusicalDogs 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What you played to showcase the looper is too damn great, dude! I'll definitely buy one of these!

  • @baxshop
    @baxshop  11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The G5 is for those who want all the different effects in one neatly organized package, and for those of us who simply can’t conjure up the funds necessary for a full board of pedals.
    In short, sure, it does effect the signal a bit, as does any multi-effect processor, but to call it synthetic is not doing it justice. (2/2)

    Thanks for the video Harry. Because of it, I bought one of these since I needed a modeler where I'm gigging. The tube does add warmth to the sound and I leave it on all the time. It's easy to replace after taking off the 15 or so screws on the bottom plate. The Bogner model is pretty spot on. Really like this thing. Pretty versatile. I go straight into the house system and although it's not like having the amp right there, it's pretty close. Better than the Line 6 modelers by far. Thanks again Harry. Great job.

    The G5 has seperate L/R outputs. If you connect it mono to your amp then you use the L mono output. You can also connect it directly into a mixer with L/R. With effects like the Stereo Chorus you notice a difference when playing in stereo.

    You can watch from 4:30 onward to see how I create a patch from scratch. Basically you can empty a patch by setting all the slots to thru. It's best to start simply by selecting your prefered amp(s) and add a drive pedal in front, some delay and reverb after.

  • @kh485
    @kh485 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think this thing is a bit underrated. I'm getting some solid tones out of this thing with some clarity. You can hear some of the useful patches from this video. The interface is better and easier to use than the podhd desktop which I have tested thoroughly. I think the sound of the zoom is very good, as is the PodHD. Both units have software editors which are simple enough to use to get most kitchen sink sounds. The zoom has a nice boost pedal feature and nice virtual stompbox "on the fly" editing capability for only four effects in the chain. If you like to experiment with more fringe and unusual sounds the zoom may have more to offer. Individual boutique stompboxes are great, but this offers tremendous value, portability, reliability, and ease of setup.

  • @xogmusic
    @xogmusic 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I haven't played the G9. I've shown how to create a patch from scratch to see how to built it up. Normally you would probably have templates with certain combinations you orefer. It's very easy to make changes on the run, changing effect types, amps and values on the different effects.

    Because of this video ( sir harry maes),i bought zoom g5 2nd hand 2 months ago...
    and really love it....but lacks of bank up dwn,aux in but still ok for me...
    don't focus much on preset unless u wanna tweak from there...make ur own sound n it will be good..juz my 2cent....n sum have too much gain so i lower it...
    i love tube screamer...if possible don't use direct if infront of amp
    1.For output from zoom g5,infront of amp,i used stack front or combo
    2.my signal chain is right to left to my hearing liking..
    3.best for me is
    wah pdl > znr>comp/mcomp > overdrive/tube screamer > amp sim> 6band EQ >chorus n lastly add delay for solo...equing should do the trick of getting rid of digital/fizz n etc if not all...
    for fx return,i make another bank
    1.i'll use output either direct or stack front
    2.setting same like the above infront of amp but with a bit of tweaking cuz da sound a bit like tube amp(mellow)
    if using solid state amp, n wanna make it sound like fat/warmth/tube,juz activate da booster n wow!...
    it all depends on individual preferences...njoy to those who had zoom g5...cheers! to sir harry maes too...:)

    I have a G3 which I originally bought for my tube amp as an alternative for stompboxes because of the layout and all. It surprised me quite a bit as it turned out to be amazing on it's own! I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of all my other pedals and even my amp and going for a G5. Won't be doing any live/band things in the forseeable future, and I've been more than satisfied with the sounds and ease of recording, plus the looper works great too!

    I just git mine today and wow! Started watching videos and this is one of the best for an overview. Got to bank 3 patch three and next thing I know it is two hours later. Wah pedal with a pitch shift left and right. Running thru an effects loop on the AVT150 head into the lead channel and what a monster tone, Sounded like some sorta Rob Zombie funk mix from hell. Only 191 patches to go, lol. I will have to pick a patch to clear so I can start making my own soon. Great possibilities here.

    The best way to use this is to plug your laptop or PC into it and use the software provided to control it using an USB cable. You can change presets, patches, settings at the click of a mouse which really simplifies things. I love this effects pedal and recommend it to everyone. This is a must buy!! I've had mine for six months. It has a nice drum machine built in as well. I can record direct out through the USB cable to the PC or through my Fender Amp into the PC. This item is made of metal not plastic. It's not made cheap. It's worth the money and is very high quality. I love the amp modeling especially the Bogner. It rocks..

  • @baxshop
    @baxshop  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are two different ways to use this pedal: via patches (which are modified and stored easily) or via the effects. Also you may want to download the editor so you are able to modify via your computer. To fully understand the way this pedal works, please download the manual on the site of Zoom.

  • @rdArsenault
    @rdArsenault 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice demo! Like others have said, this demo covers alot but also does it in a nice, user friendly way. I've had this pedal for some time and have been faithful to Zoom over the years. This pedal however is the 'mother ship'...as in my opinion, they finally got everything in one pedal...and did it right! I have not used my G5 in a while but after seeing this, I'll be dusting it off and exploring and using much more! Great job with this demo!

    The only way to get a good answer to your question is to try them out next to each other. Then you may decide which has the better audio quality for your purposes

  • @baxshop
    @baxshop  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is, after all, a digital modeling effect processor, and it is going to influence the dynamics you’d get when purely playing a tube amp.
    On the other hand, so is hooking up multiple pedals via patch cables and whatnot, analog or otherwise.
    That’s the point of a pedal like this: to avoid having to buy a lot of costly individual pedals and having to connect them with a lot of cables, messing with your signal and, in some cases, causing noise. (1/2)

    You forgot to mention the G5 has built-in drums to jam along and thats just great to have.
    I have the G5 and my only complaint is that if you put the volume on the pedal up/down and you change patches, the patch you change to gets loaded on max volume. Anoys the shit out of me. Other than that, it´s a great processor.

    So it has 297 preset patches and all can be changed and stored. But does each and every changed patch cost you another patch of that 297?
    Er zijn dus 297 fabrieks-patches die je kunt aanpassen. Als je een angepaste wilt opslaan, kost het je dan een andere fabrieks-patch plek die je moet opofferen?

I do 60s-80s rock but also smooth jazz and even use a nylon string acoustic/electric. boyajaka Once connected via USB you should see the device listed in your soundmanager (little speaker symbol in the taskbar). Rightclick on it and choose (Dont know what its exactly in english but it should be something like ) playing devices. It might be that its then listed as a recording device so swap to that tab and here you can rightclick the device and chose properties. Under the second tab (something like "listening" you can activat it by clicking on something like "use this device as a play source"

    There are some differences in the type of effects in the different Zoom pedals. Also the G5 gives you more control and more effect screens, a Z-pedal and a tube booster. Also slight differences in the inputs/outputs and the possibility to use the G5 as an audio-card. Hope this helps?

    Great video as always, it seems like you always know how to bring out the best out of everything you review! I was just wondering if you do any reviews of bass effects pedals. I've been considering the Zoom B3 for a while, and there aren't many good videos about it online!

    @ Harry....Wow this has some excellent tones. Your playing is awesome with incredible feel. I have been shopping pedals last month or so and listening on TH-cam and all of your reviews and playing are top notch. I love this Zoom G5. I am looking for the JCM800 sound and topping it with a buttery smooth lead tone and a wide delay.
    Any recommendations? Keep up the great work

    You can connect your guitar directly to the input of the Zoom G5 then you’ll need another jack cable which you connect from the output of the Zoom G5 to your guitar amp.

      Axe Fx II - probably on a Bogner Ecstasy clean (blue) channel.

    This sounds so much better than the me80 by boss. Their pedal is to digital sounding. This pedal is more basic but more tube and realistic.
