I really like the rooster tail those surface drives kick up. And, wow, the sound of those engines is crazy. A trip on this rocket would make memories to last me a lifetime.
That odd occasion where two youtube channels you follow collide! I've been following Safehaven Marine for years, it's a great channel, they make amazing boats and videos.
She is the second of a series of boats the first boat thunder child I set the record between cork and rockall and back, she was originally supposed to set the record for the fastest Atlantic crossing and try and snatch the blue ribbon. Frank has already begun work on thunderchild III, which will be a unit of the boat and I’m also lucky enough to know builders son. Safe haven marine build some of the best pilot boats in the world and have supplied the port of cork with their last two pilot boats. Also living in cork harbour you’d often hear TCII engines before you’d see her. She was beloved by many people in Cork including myself and she was tested in the mouth of the harbour in some of the hardest storms the Atlantic could throw at her.
Great video Tristan. TC2 is a special type of boat from a very special boat yard. Delighted if not envious that you got to fly in her. Can't wait to see TC3 😱😱
Same way as a landspeed record holder or research prototype ... For future working developments like Rescue Pilot Patrol and millitary use. Now she would probably be built using basalt rock fiber and at some stage they will end up using fuel cell technology and hybrid power systems.
This episode must be setting some kind of record for enjoyable! The choice of surface piercing drives with rooster tail is awesome... But points out my lack of naval architect knowledge, isn't foil tech mature enough for high speed galloping?
Heck! If I owned a few hundred off shore oil rigs I just may afford to sail like that too. But, I probably would just listen to the music the those four CAT's are making at idle.
How often does this route have records set? How about a around the Isle of Wight record to compare with sail boats or the fastnet course? What was you average speed ? Cheers Warren
If you think that thunderchild ii is cool bost in this harbour. We went fro Reykjavík to tasiilaq Greenland last year. This boat is like a spaceship from another world there.
What a vessel!! A bit of advice, however, although it,s value is extremely high, I think you can increase that value by 14 dollars and 35 cents by adding cup holders.
How many litres of fuel did you have left after nearly 9 hours? Or should I ask how many cup fulls! What a stunning boat hats of to the designer and builder.
As a Jersey resident she certainly makes herself known as the boat that only Thunder mother could love. She far from pretty, but immensely purposeful. I now see her every morning on my way to work. Same you were sick. Oh and for those asking about a ride aboard her, tickets were sold for a round Jersey blast (wouldn't take long) for charity. I purchased one, but sadly didn't win. Well worth the donation though. 👌🏼
Isn't it strange how all such boat reviews mention the power of the enigines, the range, but rarely every the consumption in any meaningful unit, if at all?
Amazing yacht! Also answers a question I'd had. Like we hear about Paypal founders, but not Worldpay. Back in the mid-90's, they were one of my Internet clients right at the beginning of the UK's commercial Internet explosion. They were doing cool things then, and I had some fun trying to convince our US management that they were the kind of business we should be supporting. Especially when they were asking for some fun features that the Internet wasn't quite ready for at the time. So it's nice to see Mr Ogden's still pushing technology :)
Ugh, I've had a stomach bug like that, and it was no fun at all. Sounds like it wasn't food poisoning in your case, but maybe a norovirus or similar. Misery. Glad you were feeling better quickly.
👍👍👍YEH, WOW. the sound of the engines sitting dock side is as loud as down in the engine room on the supper yacht. And yes, I would have to agree with Jeff V. I really don't get it. and I am not bashing there work. But the money in Fuel alone could have be given as a donation, or one of the chairs. LOL If you can afford to run something like this, reach deep in your own pockets to make a donation. It just gets really OLD with people coming up with the Word's "We are running a Drive for Charity". This has gotten so bad because to host an event in today's market, It's it's crazy the amount of bucks is spent that could go directly to the Charity. OK off my soap box. You really got a real treat Tristan. Imagine that baby parked in your home dock, next to the . LOL Great video. 👍👍👍
I never really understood how events like this can be called a charity. They could have skipped the run and just donated the money spent in fuel. That being said, I want one.
Agree, all the talk of "charity" is very distasteful marketing for a very rich guy taking an environmentally irresponsible ego trip in his new toy. I expect he could have doubled any money raised, donated it, and not noticed it missing.
Saying 'charity' here is like these rich people who buy FAKE carbon credits to 'offset' their ways of destroying the planet, whether in a Lambo, Gulfstream, or Luussen..
The true test of the charity intent will be when they sell it. Boats like this with a story behind them are improved if they set a world record and raised money for charity. At sale, that bumps up the price so that the new owner can talk about it to their guests which has a good chance to improve the price over what it cost to build and maintain. There are not, after all, that many custom-made world record-setting boats in the world. If they donate the proceeds of the sale to charity, then that'll be some real charity. If they don't, then it'd be fair to say that this was a publicity stunt to gain attention to the boat and/or crew and owner.
Wonderful vessel, very similar to the VSV designed and built by Nick Keig and Adrian Thompson from the Isle of Man , back in the late 70s early 80s…..👍🇮🇲
Poor Tristan. Getting bounced around on this thing with a stomach bug to boot. Glad you survived it! What is the purpose of surface piercing props? I always thought props worked better under the surface.
Wasn’t there a report recently about the noise disturbance to whales and other sea life. Looks and sounds great but I bet it causes problems for marine life. Sorry to be ‘that person’.
He bought this brutal service vessel because his son is "a Ski athlete" and so he can "take his family to France for lunch".....!? If the vessel had a personality it would probably feel a bit underrated and deflated, it was specifically designed as an all weather service vessel, it's potential would be fully realised in search and rescue, not towing a Skier across the English channel for Crepes in Normandy...
I hope that isn't 2,300 horsepower total. I think it would be more reasonable to use four turbines instead of diesels as well. Sound better and more power.
Timecto build a faster boat? One with foils under it? Less drag is more speed and with 32 tons out of thd water that would be a "lot more speed" and with the wave piercing drive its even possible to adapt foils to this hull and try it on a computer before lifting a spanner. In the end if they can make sail boat go from 12 knots to nearly 60 knots by taking the drag off the hull its the next option?????
Not to detract from the world record. But surely, if it was done to raise charity, it would’ve been more economical to rather than buy/build a boat in the first place and use that for charity? Bit like Coldplay doing an “eco-friendly” world tour, whilst using private jets 🤷🏼♂️
Wow, breaking a record using four gas guzzling high horsepower engines. What would be more impressive is if they could do it without burning fossil fuels.
I bought a 42' Interceptor (Black Pearl) from Frank in 2009. Safehaven boats are in a class of their own. Welcome to the club. Best of luck.
I really like the rooster tail those surface drives kick up. And, wow, the sound of those engines is crazy. A trip on this rocket would make memories to last me a lifetime.
I'd love to ski behind her with a loooong tow rope!
That odd occasion where two youtube channels you follow collide! I've been following Safehaven Marine for years, it's a great channel, they make amazing boats and videos.
Me too at first I thought it was a video for Safehaven. How crazy mess that ride have been?
same here!
Great boats coming out of Ireland
I’ve been lucky enough to drive a few of them and they’re absolute units very nice handling and they’re pretty nimble
Too
Spot on

Safehaven boats are fantastic bits of kit! Glad you got the chance to do the trip!
Amazing boat there! Need more speed!! 👍👊👍👊 Congrats on the new Record!! Whoot!! 🎉👍👊🎉👍👊
Wow, how cool was that. What a stunner of a yacht !
Great video Tristan. TC2 is a special type of boat from a very special boat yard. Delighted if not envious that you got to fly in her. Can't wait to see TC3 😱😱
How do you raise money with a boat like that? I doubt it would raise the cost of the boat and fuel in it's life time.
Tax fiddle 👍🏼
Same way as a landspeed record holder or research prototype ... For future working developments like Rescue Pilot Patrol and millitary use.
Now she would probably be built using basalt rock fiber and at some stage they will end up using fuel cell technology and hybrid power systems.
I have heard that on average, you pay approximately 10% of your boats purchase price per year on up keep and regular use.
Tax write off, just like those who offer up their house/car/boat for hire…..or set their spouse up with a little dress shoppe🙄
Rich guys toys
You have to be 100% for this kind of navigation. What a beast. Thanks Tristan. 👍👍👍👍🤢🤢🤢🤢😅
Looks like a Bond villain's boat. I love the lines and the tech.
comgratulations to the new owner. Safehaven Marine builds one of if not the most if not the most advanced pilot and rescue boats in the world today.
Nick is a real star for getting this one - superb :-)
Been following both channels for ages the Safehaven Marine guys build amazing boats
Thanks Captain Tristan for the look at this wonderful boat.
Absolutely amazing boat and you are so so lucky to have the chance to sail on it. I feel so J and would love to have a chance to do the same
This episode must be setting some kind of record for enjoyable!
The choice of surface piercing drives with rooster tail is awesome...
But points out my lack of naval architect knowledge, isn't foil tech
mature enough for high speed galloping?
That is a different category, as are GEM boats.
what a wicked looking machine. Can I have a ride next?
Heck! If I owned a few hundred off shore oil rigs I just may afford to sail like that too.
But, I probably would just listen to the music the those four CAT's are making at idle.
Insane boat - and so economical to run 🤣🤣😂😂😁😁
How often does this route have records set? How about a around the Isle of Wight record to compare with sail boats or the fastnet course?
What was you average speed ?
Cheers Warren
Hey Warren. What’s up? All good questions. I’d like to add one. How do I get a ride on this beauty?😂
I seem to remember seeing a video off that trip being done in this boat by the previous owner. I could be wrong.
If you think that thunderchild ii is cool bost in this harbour. We went fro Reykjavík to tasiilaq Greenland last year. This boat is like a spaceship from another world there.
Bravo Zulu to all involved!
5 gallons per mile? That boat is all about climate
"More importantly raise funds for charity" thousands of dollars in donations vs millions for the ship.
Thank You, The tour will be interesting , perhaps you could discous some of the differences between a record seeker and a yacht. Thank You
Frank Kowalski is a Legend!
Just because it can be done doesn't always mean it should be done.
What a vessel!! A bit of advice, however, although it,s value is extremely high, I think you can increase that value by 14 dollars and 35 cents by adding cup holders.
Charity for billionaire's is just so he can wrightoff / tax deductible
I have to say. the color scheme puts it right in your eye balls. Great boat.
How many litres of fuel did you have left after nearly 9 hours?
Or should I ask how many cup fulls!
What a stunning boat hats of to the designer and builder.

Not only fast but apparently it has a great range.
8000L of diesel... Should be able to make it all the way to the end of the slip on that lol
Isn't it strange how all such boat reviews mention the power of the enigines, the range, but rarely every the consumption in any meaningful unit, if at all?
How much did they beat the old record by?
What an awesome boat!
This Boat needs to show his potential at Haulover Inlet Florida on a rough Day that would be the Ultimate Challange for this Boat.
Amazing yacht! Also answers a question I'd had. Like we hear about Paypal founders, but not Worldpay. Can’t wait for the full electric version.
Like the sound of those big Cat diesels. A nice rumble.
I saw that boat 2 weeks ago in jersey, looks so different to the other boats there. I just love the gold too
Ugh, I've had a stomach bug like that, and it was no fun at all. Sounds like it wasn't food poisoning in your case, but maybe a norovirus or similar. Misery. Glad you were feeling better quickly.
Speechless!
🍻🇨🇦❤️
What a machine!!!
Thank you senior, the video is very good, I like it
Yeah, but, you went to the "old" Jersey. Next record should be to New Jersey.
Looks like great fun, boys and our toys...
👍👍👍YEH, WOW. the sound of the engines sitting dock side is as loud as down in the engine room on the supper yacht. And yes, I would have to agree with Jeff V. Can’t believe you didnt whip a wakeboard out and have a go behind the boat 😆
That would have been a sight. Tristan on a wakeboard while throwing up from food poisoning. Not a sight one would easily forget nor want to see.
Dolphins and whales will not need to be warned when this beast is running.
I never really understood how events like this can be called a charity. They could have skipped the run and just donated the money spent in fuel. That being said, I want one.
Even better, just donated the money it cost to build the thing... Imagine 27 000 pounds for a chair!
Agree, all the talk of "charity" is very distasteful marketing for a very rich guy taking an environmentally irresponsible ego trip in his new toy. I expect he could have doubled any money raised, donated it, and not noticed it missing.
He’s going to do it anyway. Might as well let some charity make some money as an externality.
Saying 'charity' here is like these rich people who buy FAKE carbon credits to 'offset' their ways of destroying the planet, whether in a Lambo, Gulfstream, or Luussen..

I wonder how the costs of running the boat compare to the money raised for charity.
Great video mate, loving the variety.
Next, make a heat ray, see how it stands up to the heat ray.
Green libbys in USA love you guys
Those chairs need a tilt function
I would like to see a small version of this with maybe just 1 or 2 engines.
What a boat and vision, will follow the adventures! Is she names after the Royal Navy ship in War or the Worlds?
that hull shape are good for sail vessels?
What a beast, l can imagine you would love to own one yourself, let’s face it it’s just pocket money !!!!!
A little map with the route and position would’t hurt.
Can you troll fish in that boat?
"few thousand pounds for charity" just think of fuel ticket for this run..
Brilliant Tristan, smashed it again 👏
Fabulous contents 👍
Wonderful vessel, very similar to the VSV designed and built by Nick Keig and Adrian Thompson from the Isle of Man , back in the late 70s early 80s…..👍🇮🇲
@1₉₃₇₈₈₈₀₇₈₁whatapp ???
The question YOU should ask is how much pollution is created and how much diesel burnt on these "charity" trips.
I'm speechless!!!!!!
Poor Tristan. Getting bounced around on this thing with a stomach bug to boot. Glad you survived it!
What is the purpose of surface piercing props?
I always thought props worked better under the surface.
They can be more efficent by avoiding cavitation (regions of low pressure water vapor forming behind the moving blades).
What is the benefit of surface piercing propellers? Would Jet stream propulsion not be more efficient?
Jon olsson, hold my beer...
Wasn’t there a report recently about the noise disturbance to whales and other sea life. Looks and sounds great but I bet it causes problems for marine life. Sorry to be ‘that person’.
I’d be willing to bet, someone was complaining about noise levels coming from the wacky Wright brothers contraption.
@@clayfarnet970 probably, you are right. But I doubt it was having a serious effect on marine wildlife. But who cares, eh?
Will you be going for the Atlantic crossing record?
nobody still can beat world record for Destriero in 1993, someone pls push for help this vessel from his graveyard in germany!
So what did you do this weekend? Repainted the mailbox. You? Set a record.
Like from Catamaran Navigation 🤝👍👍👍
You just know this is going to show up in the next Bond film...
I can't believe that Frank sold TC2.
Looks like a James Bond villains boat
He bought this brutal service vessel because his son is "a Ski athlete" and so he can "take his family to France for lunch".....!?

Reminds me of the 1985 Atlantic Challenger. Waste of precious fuel just to set a record.
Incredible boat.. doubt he got much change out of €3M for that beast....
Interesting. Thanks
what seats are at the helm ?
“The big question of husbands”, really? Misogyny is alive and well.
Hi Tristan, thanks for getting in touch, however. I’m not sure what that number is.
So Badass!
I hope that isn't 2,300 horsepower total. I think it would be more reasonable to use four turbines instead of diesels as well. Sound better and more power.
Charity = tax write off but some deserving person gets helped … so fun is had and people helped….
How many liters of dinosaurs juice did it take?
You read the stats. Omitted range? My guess 300NM
27,000 lbs?! Could have bought brand new real nice air ride chairs for under 5G each!
That was a bit cringey
What was the asking price?
Monaco we will chase in theFairey!!!
Wow.....
Price?
Waklthough and price in this video: th-cam.com/video/2oPdmyKaAXQ/w-d-xo.html
I'd like to sign up for an email report if they put one together
How much did it cost from Cork, in fuel?
Timecto build a faster boat? One with foils under it? Less drag is more speed and with 32 tons out of thd water that would be a "lot more speed" and with the wave piercing drive its even possible to adapt foils to this hull and try it on a computer before lifting a spanner. In the end if they can make sail boat go from 12 knots to nearly 60 knots by taking the drag off the hull its the next option?????
How can it be a World Record when it's between Cork and Jersey? Surely it's just a record as it can't be be broken anywhere else in the world
Where is Thunder Child 1 today and what is she doing?
Not to detract from the world record. But surely, if it was done to raise charity, it would’ve been more economical to rather than buy/build a boat in the first place and use that for charity?
Bit like Coldplay doing an “eco-friendly” world tour, whilst using private jets 🤷🏼♂️
Wow, breaking a record using four gas guzzling high horsepower engines. What would be more impressive is if they could do it without burning fossil fuels.
Spending 27k per seat to raise a few thousand to feel good about yourself 🤣
She’s running on sustainable biodiesel
