Harvey Korman was never fired. He was warned cause of his nasty attitude back stage. That was early on in the series.

You guys really need to know the difference between Korman and Conway.
Carol almost fired Harvey Korman cause he had attitude backstage and would snap at people. Carol gave him an ultimatum to change his attitude and be happier at work or not come back. She told him to come back monday humming and skipping with joy. He changed his attitude and did just that. They Even had a plaque made for his dressing room door that said, happy go lucky. This was early on in the series. He was never fired.

First of all, Burnett only THREATENED to fire Korman and it was because of his rude and insulting behavior towards guest star Petula Clark. Burnett has written of the incident in two of her books and she said to Korman that if he wasn't happy here she would call his agent and tell him to find him work elsewhere. Burnett gave Harvey the weekend to think it over and he came to his senses, apologized and didn't behave rudely again. Also, you mixed up Tim Conway and Harvey Korman in the old man sketches. If you can't get your facts straight, then don't call yourself "Facts First".
Some of the skits you refer to were actually Tim Conway not Harvey.

A while ago I saw an interview where Carol did say she had fired Harvey but if memory serves it was not because he went out of character during a skit. I believe it was his poor behavior with the other cast members.

Carol Burnett said in a 2016 interview that Harvey was often in a bad mood or funk, but they could get him out of it. Then one day he snapped at two guest stars and she found that unacceptable. He told her he just wasn't happy there.
Carol told him he was free to leave and not come back. She called his agent and let him know what transpired. Harvey was contrite. She let him come back, but didn't want any more incidents. She wanted to see him whistling and skipping through the halls. The elevator door opened, and he did just that.
She had a plaque placed on his dressing room door that said, "Mr, Happy-Go-Lucky." The guest stars that week were "two of nicest people in show business"-- Petula Clark and Tim Conway. Tim hadn't become a regular cast member yet. So this incident happened early in the show's run.

The show was never particularly funny. The "ad libs" could have been edited out the final production but then the audience would have nothing to look forward to. What upset me most was the classic film parodies that are just painful to watch. Also, it's key audience was the older generation who didn't expect much.

The way they constantly laughed and broke character was pretty damn week. That was what most people were laughing at,. It's a weak-ass hack trick. I remember everyone on SNL hated Jimmy Fallon cuz he would always laugh during sketches and they felt like he was doing it just to get the attention on him because he's never been funny. I thought Tim Conway's very funny Harvey korman to but just got no respect for the way they couldn't get to a scheduled out laughing that's pretty weak amateur stuff. Or iSmart professional who knows that's going to make the audience laugh. I haven't seen the show in forever and I remember thinking it was funny but again the fact they just would constantly be laughing when they weren't supposed to I've learned later is a week kind of amateurish trick.
