I realised that trying to remove or 'shorten' the plants I have would be too much work and too costly, so I decided I would just tidy them up to make what I had look better. I came across your chanel which is just what I needed, bravo for your videos they are so good.
So much needed instruction and insight. I'm grateful to have found your vlog. I want to help your undercover structure, w/ proper measurement and support. You are so beautiful!
G Zy ..it will be hard..invest in the hand pruners and the little saw..and like she has said..just start with the dead wood...you will have so much fun..you wil not need anyone else..but you do need to know the plant name..then google..I usually take a branch, leaf or flower to an agricultural extension agent ( I move a lot) and ask them..they are in every county complex. They don't know as much as they used to..I am finding..but they have pamphlets..ignore the poisonous suggestions. Haha.
Forsythia lovers are in two camps - the ones who see these plants as a hedge and the ones who love the natural form. Shearing them as a hedge speaks for itself - then the issue is whether this plant should be used as a hedge in the first place when there are shrubs better suited to a hedge. The most beautiful mature forsythia planting I've ever seen set them 8' apart and allowed them to grow into their natural form, which is mounded, arching branches to the ground in a spreading mounded shape, this one against a white fence. These arching forms look natural and beautiful even when out of bloom. It's my preference because it's the natural shape.
I love you! I love you! I love you! Plant butchers distress me terribly mostly for aesthetic reasons for the plant and it irritates me that people do t want to learn or think they know it all.
I agree with most of what you're saying but there are exceptions. If someone has a row of azaleas or a row of forsythia then you shear them like hedges because that was their intention. If it's a specimen planting then I do reduction or thinning. Regardless of what a book says.
Such a late response, but it’s 4 a.m,, and I laughed at your comment about worshiping the flora! You are perfect for teaching!

Cass, you do a REALLY good job of presenting information in a way that makes it stick. Thank you so much. On my way to check out Plant Amnesty.

Best pruning vlog . Learned so much while I recognized that even though I live in Ireland, you were obviously talking about me!
So glad to have found your videos. Where do I find someone to prune my yard properly!

Informative. But the execution and the delivery of the video is boring.
The difference between butchery and radical renovation is what the guy next block did is butchery. What I did is a radical renovation! Best ! )))))))
Jesus Christ, WILL YOU GET TO THE POINT?!
