    I was just looking at Kdenlive tutorials yesterday and then this gets uploaded today. There is a God.

    To avoid big jumps in the audio and control the dynamics so that quiet parts are not TOO quiet and loud parts are not TOO loud you should set the compressor properly in Audacity, that is what it is for. Play with the threshold, attack and release, and make up gain. No need to do so much manual work again on the gain and volume in KDEnlive. There are plenty of tutorials here on YT on how to use a compressor. Not easy to use it properly, it takes time but still, once you do, it's like knowing how to write scripts ;)

    you can also use obs for capturing both the cam and the desktop. i don't know if it's using less resources that way though

    i prefer merging audio and video in kdenlive and and group the clips
    btw: why dont you enable the 2 pass filter in advanced settings in render? i use it because youtube recommends it

    Audacity keeps flipping out on my puter. Seems to play clips slow sometimes. Kdenlive is very good these days. It seems much less buggy than it used to be.

      Lo-fi Guy I agree about Kdenlive. I need to start looking through the effects it has because I had no idea the edge crop was even a thing I could do. That's amazing.

    I don't know if you've done a video on the topic but what app do you use in kubuntu to improve audio quality? (i.e equalizer, bass, treble, compression settings).

      Nice! me too
      The Video Editor UI doesn't look as good as other applications, but I really like editing with blender.
      I thought I was the only one! D=

      You see, you copy each of your files into different USB flash drives, then you put them in the blender, add some milk, sugar, ice and vanilla extract and set it to high for about 2 minutes.
      Remember to stick your hand in every now and then while the blender is going, to help the ingredients mix.

    I have windows 10 on my desktop and Ubuntu on my laptop. I have to admit I'm pretty new to any kind of video editing and so far am using Filmora9 on the desktop but would love to know if there is a Linux video editing software that like Filmora gives a person the option when finished to upload straight to their TH-cam Channel? Thanks for any info you can give.

    Hi Quidsup, I am using the exact same process. Rendering on Kdenlive maxes out my FX4100, but recently I had the opportunity to test it on an R5 1600. Interestingly, the rendering wasn't faster, only the CPU load was down to about 30%. Same with GPU rendering: It takes about the same time with CPU (FX4100) down to 20% and GPU (GTX1060) anywhere between 5 to 15%. Are you able to max out your Ryzen and hence get faster render times? Are you using MLT? Any experience with MOVIT?

    • @TheMoushjak
      @TheMoushjak 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Düsentrieb it depends on effects, that you use. Raw video with no effects/transitions can render on all 4 cores. Some effects drops core count to 2 of 90% core usage and 50% all others. Some - pushes only one core to 100% and 50% others.

    Why don't you use obs for recording?

    • @linuxlounge

      David G possibly because it's more advance than needed? Also I've had a variety of sound issues with it and the sort

    Using Windows? Then use the Windows version of Kdenlive (links given in another message here). OBS can also be used in both Windows & Linux. OBS allows the web-cam to also b recorded, along with audio-mixers from various sources (screen, microphones, etc) whilst recording.
    Personally I use RecordMyDesktop (RMD) in Linux-ONLY. It is the grownup version of SimpleScreenRecorder (SSR), demanding more resources, & allowing more flexibility. RMD can be launched from most "LIVE-LINUX" installations. It allows real-time screen recording of the whole installation process, onto the drive.
    Both RMD & SSR allow low-resource usage, if not encoding whilst recording. This un-encoded raw-data file can be copied from the installation desktop, to another area after the installation is complete. The copy can be put onto te installation-flash-stick, or emailed to your address, etc.
    M Dell notebook has i7CPU & DDR3 16GB memory. Encoding into MP4 files in real time whilst using RMD uses about 14% of my CPU. But it allows easy copying to other places, after installation is finished.

    I couldn't get any of the Linux based video editors to work on Ubuntu. They aren't intuitive at all and have bugs that make them totally worthless. I have a lot of respect for people who create videos for video sharing platforms because it has to be a full time job to deal with all of the glitches and dealing with such complex applications. I don't have time to deal with all of the problems.

    i wish adobe, foundry, and avid reached out to Linux.
    free and paid version is fine, i will still pay them anyway for full version.
    audacity is alright. tho still far away from Adobe audition. meanwhile, audition is waaaaay behind Avid pro tools. Adobe can't even match Presonus.
    blender is behind lightworks for video editing purpose. the problem is lightworks is still far away behind even Adobe premiere pro.
    davinci resolve got incredible free version and blows out lightworks in every corner.
    and then there is the top level, all softwares from Foundry.

    It was a different time as CD's were the new thing.
    FLAC is fine but no stowage space.

    Check out "Natron" if you want to take video editing up a notch, It's like Nuke/Adobe After effects software, open-source and of course Linux. Steep learning curve though! natron.fr/

      That is compositing software not video editing from what I've seen, a category of its own. Is there any good video editing software on Linux (it doesn't matter whether commercial or free) that efficiently uses multi-threading and GPU for rendering. As far as I know (correct me if I am wrong), Kdenlive only uses GPU for some effects, Blender VSE does not recognize CPU cores, let alone GPU (I'm talking about the VSE not the other sections), Openshot does not, Lightworks does but the free version only exports to 720p and they go the Adobe way with yearly subscription. Davinci Resolve does but on Linux you do not have ANY audio support unless you buy their card, it does not import mp4 and maybe neither does it export :(

    • @Satscape
      @Satscape 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use Shotcut for regular video editing, not sure it does GPU rendering, but it is fast and I often render out one video while editing another without any slowdown. (two core CPU)

      It looks promising from a quick glance at their webpage. I was misled by a stupid article that described it as 'for basic usage only' ;) In the features they report: 'Multi-core parallel image processing (when not using GPU and frame-dropping is disabled)' I'd just finally like to really use my 8-core Xeon and my 980:) Thanks for the tips!
