A metal strip or a wooden reaper at the bottom of the seat fixed with screws would strengthen the weak glue joints in the seat, which is the reason for the chair to come apart
Love old chairs. My mom used to take my brother and me to the town dump on Saturday afternoons to pick through trash. She would find all sorts of things that needed repair. Chairs were her favorite thing to find. She knew a man that did canning. He would do the caning, she would then make a chair look like it came from the maker. Nice job.
Great, I’ve been researching for some repairs of a very important piece of history. A chair that is significantly historical and very important to our family history. Thank you. It has tremendous public historical value as well. I can’t make a mistake on this one.

Nice rebuilding of this broken down chair. I liked everything but your choice of replacement wood part. The chair looked like it was built from white oak. But you selected what looked like mere pine for the replacement part. I am sure white oak isn't hard to come by. But beyond that, it does look nice refinished...

Nice end result. May I ask why you opt for CA-glue, instead of a good woodglue. That would give you more opening time, stronger bond because less brittle, not runny and messy. Is time the issue here?
From what I remember, luthiers sometimes use CA to repair cracks, because it has the ability to penetrate deep into the break, where PVA glue can't. It is also easier to hide with wood coloring and finish.
That chair looks great!! What type of glue did you use on the legs and spindles? I am working on a shop stool at the moment and I am having to do pretty much the same thing you did to repair this chair. It was fun to watch. See you in the next one!! ✌🏽
Thank you buddy. Although carpenters criticize the glue I use for not being flexible enough, I use Pattex 2k instant glue :) It's very very strong. If you can find the strength to deal with carpenters, I recommend you to use it :)
@@Restomaniac Well I would not want to upset all of the internet experts but I will look into it. Right now the joints are still very tight so if that stays the same I will use simple wood glue. Once I clean them though that might change. Thanks for the tip!
The words patience and effort needs to add time to the mix. There was a lot of gluing that probably occurred over several days to accomplish. Thanks for sharing this video, enjoyed it greatly. 💪👍😁🇺🇸
not someone who does restoration, but i probably would have put wooden dowels between the planks of the seat to give them a stronger support between each other, and used wood glue rather than super glue, maybe some wood strips rather than sawdust... still, this turned out to be a beauty of a little chair, well done!
