The idea of incorporating some add ons into the base kit is something I wish the devs would do more. Especially since it’s been proven to be a good thing in the past e.g making trapper have the brown bag as base kit was a fantastic change. Demo being able to break pallets as base kit is what makes him half as good as he is.
Otz should make a tier list reflecting the very best add-on for every killer. Most of veteran have so much bloodpoints that every add-on is base-kit for killer. The problem with saying to make add-on base-kit is that add-on you need make base-kit for clown is pinky finger. that is the issue. The game-changing add-on is in fact add-on that balances clown. its same for tombstone for myers and sadako with iri tape+ring drawing. Most of these add-on are controversial so devs do not change anything.
Sadako should have her iri as basekit but with only 1 or 2 tvs turning back on and iri tape adds like 1 extra maybe. that would make her basekit much more balanced and iri would still be powerful and not as op
In defense of Tombstone, carrying a whole tombstone for an entire match is probably quite physically taxing for Michael, so it should super strong as a tradeoff. It's only fair.
BHVRs balance team is literally just an intern looking at an excel spreadsheet of addon usage rates without knowing what any of them do and they’re told to just highlight the over and underused ones
Wraith and Doctor are what I consider the gold standard for add-on design. Enhance the power in cool and unique ways without overloading or being so gimmicky it'll almost never get value
I personally think that besides her iri head, huntresses addons are great and scale up extremely well. None of them are too strong. Even her iri head is not that amazing unless you’re face camping.
@@colossaltitan3546 I suppose but it's honestly arguable that bone clapper is better because it can zone someone off of a generator if you aren't even there.
@@chantrak5936 I've never really tested the exact audio placing of bone clapper but yeah, that one can put everyone uneasy. I think wraith's only bad addon is the one that makes pools of blood brighter when cloaked
I feel like there are a couple perks and addons that could just become offerings instead. Open handed could decrease the increased range and stack between survivors, Scourge Hook: basement could too. Trappers sack could be an Offering, as well as some key and map offerings could just be rolled into a "These items consume charge slower" offering, stacking or not with Streetwise.
I don't understand how they can make Wesker, make a power that's both fun, strong, and balanced, make his addons with a good design philosophy, receive praise from the community and blatant feedback on what was good and what needed to be changed And then proceed to make Knight and Skull Merchant
I imagine it was because these two were already in development when wesker was released. I'm hoping what ever comes next is taking that feedback into account finally.
Wesker is one of the worst killers to date. Knight and Skull Merchant are just magnitudes better and more reliable. This is not satire. I am willing to die o this hill. RE Wesker >>>>>>>>> DbD Wesker
Possibly different people working on balancing the game during the specific periods. I also wonder if the license holders have any say on balance, as most licensed killers (mostly movies) are doo-doo but Resident Evil killers (who are owned by Capcom, a major gaming publisher) are really great. Pyramid Head is there but Konami's braincells are on life support so he doesn't count.
I think everyone would be fine with BHVR slowing down the pace of their killer and survivor releases, in exchange for reworks of old powers, perks, and add-ons and handling problems like camping, tunneling, and hacking. Events offer excitement already, and they could toss in a Paragraph if need be. I'm sure everyone would be on-board with that.
People have been saying that for years, but BHVR needs the cash more than a stable game, besides there’s no competition so they can do what they want and know people will come back eventually
@@arxidiax2arxidiax276 Maybe, but I bet people would spend a lot more money on this game and its DLC if they improved the game through such changes. Besides, the enormous hype generated by licensed releases generates revenue, and they'd generate more if licensed killers released in a better state. Wesker is amazing, and I bet sales for Resident Evil chapters were super high compared to Sadako, who (despite being a horror icon) barely gets sales. In fact, a lot of licensed stuff is generally what needs help, and if they were improved they'd see a lot more sales (Freddy, Michael, Sadako, etc).
The sad thing is they need the perception of being a healthy, played game. The minute they announce a pause or delay in DLC the immediate response from the gaming community is “oh well it’s a dead game” and they will abandon it.
@@nostalgicactuator8448 nah, they would earn less. Think about it, they release a new chapter, a shit load of people buy it no matter what, they play it for a week for the archivements or before survivors learn to counter the new killer, then they drop it and wait for the next one. At the end of the day, new content will always give them more money than balance patches.
No, they just need to listen and confirm player feedback. Meaning not just listen to little timmy asking all killers to be nerfed, but most complained about or controversial aspects of the game and look into what is causing this backlash. It’s not even that difficult for a entity like behavior. At this point they are egotistical and incompetent.
I was thinking about this earlier, you can't really even tier some of these killers. For killers like Myers and Sadako, I think they need to lower the strength of these add-ons and niche play styles and buff their basekit. From a balance standpoint, it's not healthy for a killer to be terrible basekit and then completely different and even busted with add-ons. Sadako is one of my mains and I would love to see her in a much healthier spot than she currently is. I don't love doing the forced Condemn playstyle and I know for a fact survivors hate playing against it. I would be much more in favor of getting rid of it and compensating with healthy buffs to her basekit. The same can be said about a few other killers too.
I don't see condemn playstyle being all that bad. The main issue is just the slugging, but you can fix that by giving out a stack of condemned to anyone you hook as basekit. That incentivizes hooks instead of just slugging.
@@taragnor I would like to see a rework to her Condemn. With each stack a different status effect could take place or something. The hooks being incentivized would for sure help though.
@@taragnor The slugging isn't even the main issue most of the time, the main issue is no TVs. Everytime I faced one, we didn't care too much about the slugging: if we have Expo, we literally don't care about it, and recently I faced one where nobody cared about the slugged guy, we sticked to gens (so much that the Sadako stopped slugging and started hooking.) The issue is that she sent us to The Game (like they often do), and then she just kept teleporting everywhere constantly, turning off all the TVs and increasing the Condemn super quickly. Four survivors who need to do tapes while she turns off TVs regularly, how do you even find one that is available ? Two floors to look through as well. And a survivor needs to run around and find/hear a turned on TV, Sadako can just see them constantly and TP to them. Being able to remove the Condemn effectively is the annoying part of Condemn Sadako, not the intense slugging or hit and run to make people heal each other and get stacks. Also putting a tape in the TV removes _only_ 3 stacks, she needs 7 to fully kill you, and everytime you're in range of the TP you get 1, if you heal someone, you get 1. On indoor, stacked maps it's just hell (and yet almost completely useless on big, open maps).
@@Libellulaire the reason RPD is my fav Sadako map cause its just chaotic as ever on there everyone (except me i memorized the layout of the map and tv spawns on the map) loses their way and just gets hit with condemned lol they are just running around trying to find gens and tv´s while i tp everywhere
I really agree with the sentiment we need more status effects or something. Not just on add ons, but perks also suffer a lot from following similar traits. Exposed, oblivious, mangled, most perks and add ons just do similar things but slightly different. I don’t think I’ve seen a perk that really got me excited since Blight. Scourge hooks were promising, but don’t do a ton considering we already had on hook perks. I don’t know what they’d make but they really need something new.
Last perk i liked was hex plaything, that was a fun perk that added an extra objective to survivors without being broken or annoying. I loved that perk with myers.
anything that saves from more blindness add-ons. Otz talks about how 42 percent of killers have exposed add-ons when 45 percent have blindness add-ons. Freddy's got two of em for Christ's sake. not to mention there are 8 killers that have add-ons that just apply hemorrhage, no mangled. Freddy, of course, has two of those as well
Honestly if a killer has an adon that SIGNIFICANTLY moves him up on the tier list like tombstone piece, maybe a good idea would be to rank that killer twice. As in, put a version of myers with the addon in the corner in B, and the normal myers in D. Great content as always, love the way you unpack this game, could watch it for hours on end.
In my opinion all Iridescent add-ons should change the way the killer plays drastically. It's so fun having to guess their playstyle. For example: while Myers' add ons are strong, you can determine what he's running based off his stalking speed, allowing you to adopt another kind of gameplay. While the add ons shouldn't be as problematic, they should still be fun and severely alter the killer.
I'm usually more scared of him when 3 mins into the match ive not heard tier 2 than him reaching it quickly. Scratched and vanity myers are much more scary than tombstone for me 😂
@@kayenby definitely lol. Though regardless of whether I'm facing tombstone or mirror myers i always have fun facing him. He's my favourite killer to play against for some reason 😅
Not even that. He could be slow in stalking because the survivors are either breaking line of sight or he can't find anyone, or he has the tombstone add-ons. It's impossible to tell. Bad or add-on? The first poor sap to get grabbed has zero clue.
Content creators have been providing relevant feedback for years now but nothing has changed. Unless they drop dbd all together BHVR is still profiting off them
Not really. Creators did so many good changes over the years. It is simply human ungratefulness at this point. Objectively, the game is in a better place than it ever was.
Just getting into the game, and I highly suggest bringing up a graphic of the add ons description so that new players can read along and understand what everything does! Love your channel
Another sad fact is with the recent midchapter update (the one with the Freddy and oni add on changes) show that they pretty much have no intention of changing their addons
I’m honestly convinced their “balance team” is just an intern that they give the addon usage rate to and tell them to highlight over and underused addons without them actually knowing what they do, there’s no way a rational person could say “yeah let’s use our once every month and a half balance patch to change Oni’s blood absorb speed addons!”
@@arxidiax2arxidiax276 Which is why I found it hilarious that the one time the lead dev got bullied by flashlight spams a nerf followed almost immediately. I don't think any of them play their own game outside of play testing in a controlled environment.
I'm glad that we have far fewer instances of "good better best" brown/yellow-green/purple where the lower rarities are totally redundant. That's something they've improved on, at least. As you point out, though, there are a lot of them that either buff irrelevant aspects of the power, buff such a tiny amount that it's not worth it, or both! (cough cough licker tongue)
Topic aside, I just wanna tell you how incredible I find your ability to find interesting, informing and entertaining videos and content from basically just one game. People struggle with that so much, not only on DbD but also other games. Yet I feel like you just cant exhaust this game since multiple years. Good job Otz, keep your content coming!
It’s so hilarious that some of the biggest/loudest killers in the game have undetectable addons. Some that come to mind are Nemesis, Billy, and Blight. I feel like using them CAN be fun but when you can hear them screaming or even stomping from across the map there never is a point
Playing stealth neme is hilarious, Its one of my favorite ways to play him. I once scared a dude so hard he apparently threw his mouse at the screen. Also when you do stealth billy right you don't even hear his chainsaw meaning he can just burst out of corn and hit you. Its a better jumpscare then hag
Yeah I can understand that it can be effective/useful but usually you have to have a whole build surrounded around these stealth builds like for Billy. And then nemesis is one of the tallest characters in the game so it’s just pretty difficult especially for better survivors
And then most of nemesis’s addons are either zombies (which aren’t the best) or stealth. Which is pretty damn weird lol I feel like you can go at least 5 games without getting value out of these addons And then Marvin’s blood is a necessity for him even after it’s nerf All in all it’s just funny that the loudest/biggest characters are stealthy lol
Myers tombstone is a relic of the days when a mori was an insta-kill on the very first down. I'm amazed they're still in the game and almost completely unchanged.
For Sadako I think it would be great for the ability basekit for her to turn on a tv when hitting a survivor after manifesting if that tv turned off within 30 seconds and decreasing the number of the iri add on to 2 instead of 3. This would make her better basekit but also help reduce the overkill of the iri addon
Im gonna be honest I have been watching Otz for a while now, while playing Dbd rearly. And I have never seen the consitency of just the sheer ammount of work that you do for the game like: Makeing guides for new players, tips and tricks for killer and surivivors begginer or expert, trying interesting builds and explaining them, shineing a spolight on lesser known creators in the Dbd community and collaborating with them, makeing exciting and fun content like the 50- kill streak challange and most importantly the insane insight, resarch and knowledge of Dbd and its many "features" that you compile into an understandable video, whille also providing good solutions to many of the dissruptive/unfun features in the game and to communicate that even to people that dont play Dbd is truly amazing. Much love Otz and keep being you.
Ok the 42% did not surprise me at all but when you said that the add-ons in the thumbnail aren’t actually one-shot add-one I was quite impressed with the ingenuity of the thumbnail and very much shocked I didn’t notice. Clever and very fun thing to do.
The thing that needs a rework the most is the dev team They really need to make some super important yet super easy changes for year 7 That, or this game will suffer more than it already is
If they don't shake things up and make some improvements, I fear year 7 might be one of the last. A lot of people, myself included, are finding it much harder to stay invested in it.
Game has been suffering for 7 years and people are still playing it, thats why they take their sweet ass time to make changes, because the numbers arent dropping
My idea to replace Iri Head: *Serrated Head* Deep serrations make your Hatchets cut deeper and stick to your prey. (I put zero effort into this description) -Sets maximum number of Hatchets to 3 -When picking up a survivor, regain all hatchets that hit them, up to 3.
Very funny thing. I main Nemesis first Dredge second and Knight fourth (working on Pinhead Third) so I did actually recognize those add-ons weren't instadown. Frankly that's exactly why I clicked on the video was like "wait that's not right..."
@@UwULilyKitsune The broken STARS medal, and the useless knife-thingie Dredge has (the instadown is his other Iri, applies 15 seconds of exposed near the end of nightfall)
Love the video, I also think that the issues that you addressed are very important for the health of Dbd and always love to hear your insight. So glad you uploaded a video on my 15th Birthday!
Hey Otz, thank you for the vid. Just one thing I wish you had added is the description of the perks you were talking about, I think a lot of people might not know, like me, every addon by heart.
Honestly, Skull Merchant’s add ons are genuinely pretty fun. There’s some gimmicky ones, like the drones getting a terror radius or the skill check add ons, but there’s a lot of possible build variety for a killer some people think is bland.
@@vooky5610 How is it non optimal? If anything that's the least optimal and efficient way to play her. Of course if you only care for kills, it is a good way to guarantee them. But whoever plays for kills are fucking stupid. That's how we get facecamping Bubbas and Alchemist Ring Blights. Here's a suggestion: Combo her two purple tablet addons. Play with Lethal Pursuer at the start of the match. And watch as you magically have more information and lethality than what survivors ever expect from an M1 Killer. Because both the aura reading and buffs you get from your drones disincenivizes just putting them on gens. Because those drones do nothing. Survivors know that, so they'll just wait until they deactivate. The problem with this community isnt the killers, it's the braindead idiots who play them.
As someone who has rewritten SM's backstory, reworked her, and Mains her, no, she doesn't have very good Addon design. If you're not 3 Genning, you need to staple Geographical Readout just to have semblance of a chase power. If you don't have that, you staple Strobe Lights instead, and if you really hate people, you run both at the same time.
I have the highest respect and love for Otz and his content throughout the years. Very fun, lovable and fair guy. I used to play DBD and watch the update reviews for valuable information. Now, I just watch them to have a good laugh.
Everyone was treating the kill on Adam in the Sadako match as if that was unfair or broken but he literally carried the tape for 5 or so stacks of condem. That's just how she works and would've happened with no Addons at all. Also if Adam weren't to die like that Steve easily could've reset and been right back in the game, setting Sadako back to step 1.
Not sure about some of the other addons but I saw someone say that iri head should be changed to instadown if the hit was from more than 24m away. that way it rewards skilled players for going for long shots.
I definitely agree that for some addons, its a good idea to make them partially basekit although for some killers such as knight, map of the real itself would be better to just make the addon itself basekit
You say unfun to play against but I would genuinely rather play against an Iri head huntress or a Tombstone Myers that play fair and go for chases than any killer with no addons and camping the hook or tunnelling someone out at 5 gens. I don't understand why BHVR and other people seem to be desperate to remove remove remove from this game because something might be a little powerful. On the route we are going now there will eventually be nothing fun left. I play a LOT of survivor lately and once you know Myers has tombstone you know you are jumping into lockers to counterplay it. I actually enjoy these matches, and they are so rare. I wouldn't mind so much if we were being given new fun stuff to replace, but that's not BHVR. They nerf something until it's worthless or remove it entirely. Sorry but the game gets more brain dead and bland every patch. Even though I agree some of these addons are OP I don't want to lose even more just so I have a few more wins. Bring back lightburn etc on wraith too.
I think I have an idea for the Clowns Iri. While it does require you to hit a bottle, it requires 2 bottles, hit after 10 seconds of a chase. If you miss, and they walk into the gas, the Iri addon won't activate on direct hits for say 30 seconds, or until you go into another chase. This forces better accuracy, but if a survivor is able to keep a good distance, or tricks the clown into throwing the bottle too soon/late, they can mindgame it. Also creates moments where it would be easier and better for the Clown to just commit to the chase and hit then down them, than go for the insta down.
While Judith’s tombstone is slept on in my opinion, if people have enough trouble with tombstone piece, I’d say it makes sense for it to be strong in some other way. Judith’s Journal and Memorial is meant to increase stalking speed. Why not make the tombstone piece just a mix of the two where everyone is stalked as quickly as the journal lets you stalk the obsession?
cool change for that addon. as to allow him to still mori, i would change around base kit by allowing a mori on a fully stalked survivor on 2nd hook hell if they wanted they could require that your in tier 3 as well. this way mikey keeps his ability to mori but in a fair and rewarding way.
I’m a Dredge main and I actually almost never use the calendar addon. That being said though, I wish he had an addon that made locker teleports completely silent. It ain’t fun to teleport to a locked locker and make a shit load of noise. :(
A silent locker addon would be so fucking fun, i always run lavaliers and skull but I might drop skull for a silent locker, would make chase teleports a lot more fun
I always thought the best high end addons were ones that either pushed a power to its limits or functionally changed a power's utility. Things like Myers' tombstone, Hag's mint rag and hand. Or Doctor's chess pieces and trapper's stone.
Agreed. Make Huntress’s hatchets pass through obstacles. Make Nemesis tentacles deal no damage (beside infection), but make zombie bites STUN survivors. So, if you are infected and get hit by zombie, you lose health stage and are stunned == Nemesis walks up and another hit, to a definite down. Make zombies work like in RE3, where zombie lunge and Nemesis’ punshes combo can stun-lock. As well as zombies LUNGE when next to you into that stun-hit. BUT Nemesis cannot do damage to you with tentacle at all. Another idea: Police zombie. When a zombie detects survivors working on a generator, he goes toward the generator (instead of chasing survivors) and….. just stands there for 20-30 seconds. If you try to approach, you get hit and the zombie keeps standing there (standing duration refreshes). Make zombies be the ultimate generator defense. BUT they just get stuck there and cannot pursue survivors.
@@kingol4801 if huntress hatchets passed through obstacles it would be unplayable. A good huntress could down anyone from anywhere with no counter play.
@@kingol4801 This is mental midget balancing. Huntress would break the game and Nemesis zombies would just make 3 gen scenarios impossible to get out of, regardless of if his tentacle does damage or not.
The thing that bugs me most is that I'm of the opinion that it's basically impossible to balance Sadako in her current state with her 0 hook mori system. The iri tape just really helps with making it possible but I'd love to see her get something a bit new or even give her some level of hybrid power, a thing BHVR hasn't done in a long time. Like let her give hallucinations like doctor or let her function more in stealth, just anything but what she is now. Great video as per always.
what about Clown basekit was that only his last pink bottle is the insta-down, and the addon make that his 3 bottles are, but he recharges super slow, or that the bottles have less distance, so you have to charge them more
Honestly, i just want all add-ons to be Doctor's add-ons. Not just making the powers better and stronger but MODIFYING it. Or like Michael Myers's. Not making it slightly better, making it like another power entirely.
But EntityLeftHand loves the Borgo and he's a Trapper main.. In fact he loves it so much we had to make a counter to count the times he's alloweed to send himself there, Or was it just us liking it? Can't recall.
I think a good demonstrative project to do, especially given it will have extra value in expressing what you go over in this video as an easy-to-digest visual aid, would be a tier list of each killer top 2 or 3 strong builds. (Addons only highlighted once per build ) Because if people see Sadako, Clown, etc...clogging the top but falling to C to D tier with all others, I think it would really show people something. Great video - Love when you do this journalistic type of videos because it educates the public while creating a body of work that proves a point.
With Nemesis I just use the zombie speed add ons and hope for the best! and as a Pyramid Head main I appreciate the shout out! Also as a heavy Myers player, I love the tombstone piece. I feel like if you take out Myers insta down he would just.. fade to the background. They are Probably my favorite addons to use in the game as a killer. Also Sadako with that iri + dead mans switch is OP. Also that Adrenaline into Myers kill was so sexy
Welcome to the club otz. Pretty much from ever since i started, ive felt like addons eat too much of the power budget. They should be minor alterations since y'know, its an 'add-on' not a 'build your build around this item' Also the fact that some killers barely function without proper addons is an abysmal game design choice.
I was thinking about trapper other day, and though a way to perhaps make him stronger, would be to make it so that he starts the trial with all his traps in hand, as in sack basekit, and then you can make him fun by giving a new addon for each grade that cause x amount of traps depending on rarity to spawn on the map like normal to use as a strat if you want.
I’d say trapper should have the mechanic that Skull Merchant has with her drones. An ability to recall them from afar if needed would resolve the issues of “I can’t use my power on this side of the map” As well as just have the sack be base kit minus the whole can’t pick up traps part.
@@Scuzz1204 That and probably that traps automaticly reset should be basekit. The recall ability probably needs some cooldown tho because with like no cooldown, he literally could block/fake every loop you go to which make it maybe too strong sometimes. He would be alot more scarier and stronger tho.
I have the perfect solution to the instadown add-on for Clown and Huntress! Simply have it reduce their number of items down to 0! You can't camp basement with a hatchet if you don't have hatchets!! :D More seriously, this is a really good showcase and discussion, 100% agree. Also, the obsessing with stuff to that degree as a child honestly sounds more like a hyperfixation than simply being interested in something? It's common in people with autism and ADHD, amongst other things!! (Speaking as someone who has autism, and at one point could name every pokemon and what their moves did from memory, only to later come to discover that most people don't experience that!)
What do you think about this Sadako buff idea, first of all, what if when de-manifested you could vault pallets and windows relatively fast. I also think she could get the “doctor treatment” where she could do a blast around her or around all tvs to spread condemn. Edit this might be stretching it but get this… what if she could also while de-manifested phase though breakable walls.
Agree. Sadako should just have Doctor’s blast that applies condemn. TV. Blast around loop. Blast. Blast. Another blast. Blast again. Blast. Condemn reached. Injure. Death. Make Sadako SPAM her condemn onto people.
I'd rather they just make her iri tape effect into a partial basekit (or maybe have lesser versions of it as add-ons). That'd not only help spread condemn but it'd make her more fun to play. Just blasting TVs at random intervals wouldn't be very fun.
@@taragnor That’s fair, I could see it getting kind of annoying to just blast condemn, I was just throwing ideas out that could help in chase or gen slow down
@@Bird836 Really what I'd love to see too is a rework of some of her useless add-ons to make them more useful in chase. Things like "demanifest lets you go through pallets" and "break pallets faster" and "teleport through windows instead of vaulting animation (same speed, but sudden teleport to catch survivors by surprise)"
@@taragnor I’m thinking that while de-manifested phasing through windows, pallets, and breakable walls could be base kit and they could change some of the useless add-onns to work with this, for example one could be like a weaker bamboozle whenever you phase through a window or pallet. (I’m not sure if I misunderstood you and if I am just saying the same thing you said)
13:55 They could for example create, i don't know, some sort of avenue for communication between the dev team and the content creators that individually have thousands of hours in the game, in order to get feedback and suggestions from the most experienced players. But I don't think such a program will ever be created.
What I believe is that those problematic addons should have their core idea incorporated into the base gameplay and rework them into something that provides a mild buff to it. It really feels like an issue when you have such game-changing addons that sometimes feel essential to be optimal with some killers.
Sadako definitely needs iri tape to be partially base kit, she feels unplayable without it at this point. My idea was to cut it right down the middle; hitting a survivor after a projection enables the last 2 TVs you projected to base-kit, while Iri tape would either be nerfed to 2 itself, (bumping it back up to the original four when ran with the 2 base kit TV reactivations,) or be reworked entirely.
The coffee grounds addon should be made basekit for Trapper, that would be the same buff Knight's basekit recently got Also the bag addon, no other Killer has to travel around the map without interacting with the survivors to gain his power. It's bas enough that he has to travel to his traps to pick them up/ rearm them when they get disarmed
My favorite genre of addons are the ones that don’t just add to the power but redefine it. Doctor and Nurse are a prime example, and there’s a few stand outs on the cast like Ghostface’s Wallet, Pinhead’s chatterer’s tooth. I think every killer should have atleast one addon that flips their playstyle on its head.
BHVR needs to get a "community manager" that will go and analyze these videos to bring them up to the development team and get these issues addressed. And if there already is a manager then they should start getting some changes to happen cause none of the community's suggestions make it into the game making these videos seem like hate instead of constructive analytical criticism.
Freddy Black Box is sleeper OP right now, with how fast gens are being done, for newer players. Equip it with noed, blood warden and no way out and you're guaranteed a down so long as ONE person is sleeping. Then bloodwarden procs, and you can noed the rest of them down for the 3/4k
Knight has a lot of interesting add ons but most of them are triggered on guard hits which is near impossible without other add one like horsemeat, map, and call to arms
So I just want to say, I was watching this with subtitles because of background noise, and I had to laugh when the subtitles told me that 'with the pinky finger, if you try to rescue, the clown will Instagram you.'
I think an interesting downside for tombstone piece would be either some kind of warning or a slower stalking speed that can't be nullified by the J. Myers Memorial addon.
Buff to trapper idea… He can hold up to 1 extra trap base kit. The brown bag spawns you with an extra trap. Yellow bag let’s you carry 2 additional traps. Purple bag let’s you spawn 2 extra traps like currently. I feel like this would significantly help his kit
Great video as always Otz, very in depth discussion about this particular issue. I know you get recommended add-on ideas all the time, so for a change I'm just posting this to the community as a whole to voice my own opinion about the state of the game. Overall the points you make in the early parts of the discussion regarding the exact rating of each killer and their add-ons feels wholly accurate to my experience playing them as a killer main, though I don't have enough experience with *all* the killers to help add to your points as I dabble in all of them instead of specializing. In particular I am absolutely in agreement about the killers where it feels necessary to have certain add-ons or add-ons in general, as I played base-kit bubba recently just to see how different the experience truly was. I did the same with a few different killers and the most obvious two that really gave me trouble was Bubba and Knight as it doesn't feel like their powers add enough to the chase against informed survivors. However, against survivors with less personal experience it almost seems like they just shred, even more-so than killers with strong add-ons and perks; as well as the fact that Knight and Bubba can really control certain aspects of the game to make it near impossible for survivors to counter them unless they make a mistake. I think that's why they're leaning against making the killers themselves stronger quite yet, being as it is a tough issue to solve to make it balanced without destroying the core idea. Though I can't say it's a good design choice overall as it may force killers into feeling like they have to begin playing in those ways to perform well, so maybe taking a leap in the test servers is what's necessary to truly say what we need out of these killers. However, I do feel feel in the case of trapper that there is something that could help him perform a bit closer to the ideal 60% win rate. Trapper's Sack being partially base-kit would possibly be a healthy change, starting with more traps (4) but you can't go out of your way to pick up more than 2. Trapper's sack would then potentially get a change to only carry 1 trap to compensate for this small unintended nerf, but the idea itself (disregarding the potential addon change) should give the Trapper more control and less downtime to set up at the beginning of the game without making him obscenely strong. The iridescent stone could then have a potential downside/upside of starting with only 2 carried traps, to give the addon more opportunity to give you free value that you technically lose with this change, or starting with 2 traps could be some sort of brown addon. It wouldn't fix his primary issue with the traps being so visible without grass but it would at least give him a bit more early chase potential for those who enjoy that play-style and/or give the killer a good jumping off point in the early-game. That's completely opinionated however and not founded in any actual evidence regarding the exact problems of Trapper, so take it with a grain of salt for anyone who was intending to use that idea. TL;DR. not much else was said than what you mentioned in the video, just some person rambling about the state of the game for a few killers.
I think that add-on philosophy should be like this: If the killer is doing well, add-on does not activate. If the survivors are doing well (or better than the killer), this is when strong killer add-ons should come online. The Knight has some like this, and I think it is very smart and cool.
I genuinely think that Trapper's honing stone should just be base kit if your already injured when stepping the trap. That would expand his add on choice so much
I agree with everything except for Myers' addons as they are my favorite implementation, they are harder to use and have insane power that matches the lore perfectly and ensure he isn't a joke to go against. He's one of the few killer that can actually terrify me especially scratched mirror. Nothing like going against a plague/spirit/nurse/blight I find these to be the most problematic killers when played "correctly" aside from the hook camp ones you mentioned. 14:54 your example was barely getting a mori, a hook, and a grab off a generator against bad survivors?
Otz has a level of patience and fortitude that I wish I had when it comes to DBD, the game has just been showing it’s colors this last few years and it just seems more and more like it’s a student project and less like a fully supported game.
I think part of the problem is the fact that these add-ons are meant to feel like temporary power-ups or something but end up feeling more like perks instead. I guess the survivor equivalent would be if medkits were just medkits with no rarities or differences, you just equip a "medkit." Instead, I think BHVR was trying to go with something like "oh man I lost that last match, but I got some blood points I can spend on a boost to win my next one!" and it really doesn't feel good. People eventually get into a situation where they've played so long and put so many blood points into the same character that rarity is superfluous, they have enough of that super-rare iridescent add-on that it has essentially become another permanent perk and NOT a consumable power-up.
My problem with dbd for the past 2 years especially is the fact that there are several killers that still need power reworks like Pig, Trapper, Twins ofc. And other killers like Pyramid head and Nemesis need just complete add on reworks.
To be real I played DBD for 6 years(release on PS4) and idk if I quit recently or I just got super burnt out and am just having a dry spell for awhile I haven’t played in like 3 months but I continuously come back to my favorite dbd content creators and Otz my man you are one of em.💯
Sadako is absolutely the poster-child for the most extreme example of polarizing add-on design in DBD. Without her Iridescent add-on, Sadako is easily one of if not the worst killers in DBD; being this really bad hybrid of Wraith and Freddy with the single most comical claim of "stealth" of any killer in the game bearing that descriptor. (stealth killers do not loudly and unambiguously announce their presence every time they use their main power. Not even Michael Myers' Evil Within Tier 3 tells everyone SPECIFICALLY where he's at the moment he gets it) With her Iridescent Tape, Sadako becomes one of the strongest killers in DBD...and sadly, I think it's how she should be played thematically too, and not just because it's a cheesy-powerful add-on either. Sadako in Ringu puts people on a clock and forces them to solve an elaborate puzzle before she literally warps their bodies with her sheer rage-induced terror. She needs some work, and I think focusing on getting her kit to work around Condemned stacks more than Hook states would be the right move, because when playing the hook game Sadako is just beyond pathetic.
Everyone here is saying, “I wish they’d listen to the community”. Well they did; last update. They took away the base kit slow healing, they up the anti on pain res, they killed the gen kick meta, and dead hard is no longer ridiculous. All that, and the community response was still negative. I’ve lost faith in the community at this point. People are just too negative and anything less than the best result with the least amount of effort is a failure. At this, I think if they reworked these add ons, and listened to content creators, people would still complain.
Vocal minorities ruin games, learn the tells for a vocal minority and you can see which negative feedback campaigns are caused by people who shouldn’t have never had expressed their opinions publicly and which ones are caused by people who actually give a shit about what they are criticizing. P.s. also some changes can seem really good on paper but in practice end up being the worst idea/solution ever. Pretty much the only way we could ever know with a 85% certainty that a change suggestion is a good one is if someone mods dbd to implement the change(s) and then play tested it with a majority of the community from nearly all skill levels, and do you think that’s going to happen any time soon? No… well then we have just proven that basically every community change suggestion is a shot in the dark in some way/shape/form.
I'm a Pinhead main and never thought/realized that I could do this. I usually just make chain hunts start faster and then play him as stealth-regression, but this could be interesting to play with after having a bunch of crap survivor games and wanting to dish out the pain received. 😈
What id like to see from the dev team is them make perks that allow other add-ons to shine more on killers. Like deathslinger, if you use his hell shire brand with lethal pursuer, sure its not a huge deal but you get more aura reading time out of the add-on, but the same principle applied to future perks would be cool, they make a perk that buffs an add-on, doesnt have to be aura reading buffs some other aspect of a killer when they use it.
Suggestion: every killer has 3 different subclasses Bloodweb has tokens to use the different subclasses This could also be applied to different survivor add ons (eg sabo toolkit vs repair toolkit)
for sadako/onryo specifically i can only see two things happening either make it where getting a hit *out of a TV*, so after teleporting and you get the hit bonus, it does its usual thing and not based on general de-manifestation or maybe make it instead of instantly turning on the last 4 TVs, maybe reduce their timer a bit for each hit, so they take less time in general to turn back on.
I always sigh when seeing iri addons for killer now. For the past 3 years the majority of iris are either exposed or undetectable addons. And unfortunately they're either garbage (knights contract) or op (pinky finger)
Iri brick and the pyramidhead ones are my fav useless iris, because it feels like BHVR is not just missing the mark, but firing into the audience instead.
This video makes a lot of awesome points while also making me love watching Sadeko gameplay even more. I guess if they change her add-ons I hope they keep the frantic pace of trying to secure condemn kills with her very best addons.
Props to BHVR; they stopped making insta-down addons and now the new trend is to make several add-ons that give you 3% haste speed.

The dedication to come back to a year old video for an update is why I love you otz
The idea of incorporating some add ons into the base kit is something I wish the devs would do more. Especially since it’s been proven to be a good thing in the past e.g making trapper have the brown bag as base kit was a fantastic change. Demo being able to break pallets as base kit is what makes him half as good as he is.
Fr. We need the confetti addon of clown basekit

This guy's channel is essentially a job resume for game balancing at BHVR
@@nostalgicactuator8448 this is true but there's no reason for bhvr to take the risk.

Otz seriously needs to be a BHVR developer at this point
That would imply BHVR is competent enough to make that choice
No, they just need to listen and confirm player feedback.
@@taragnor
The slugging isn't even the main issue most of the time, the main issue is no TVs.
Everytime I faced one, we didn't care too much about the slugging: if we have Expo, we literally don't care about it, and recently I faced one where nobody cared about the slugged guy, we sticked to gens (so much that the Sadako stopped slugging and started hooking.)
The issue is that she sent us to The Game (like they often do), and then she just kept teleporting everywhere constantly, turning off all the TVs and increasing the Condemn super quickly.

Which is pretty damn weird lol I feel like you can go at least 5 games without getting value out of these addons
And then Marvin’s blood is a necessity for him even after it’s nerf

For Sadako I think it would be great for the ability basekit for her to turn on a tv when hitting a survivor after manifesting if that tv turned off within 30 seconds and decreasing the number of the iri add on to 2 instead of 3. This would make her better basekit but also help reduce the overkill of the iri addon

Pretty sure most of Adam's condem was from the green ad on as he healed team mates

I wonder if theres a team at BHVR thats dedicated to just watching OTZ's videos.
Hell nah
Game would be actually handled better, and its not
There is actually, they watch every video otz make, listen to his advice to improve the game then do the exact opposite of what he said
Clearly nobody at BHVR has ever watched an honest review of their game
Otz is spending so much time analyzing things like this for us ❤
I’m a Dredge main and I actually almost never use the calendar addon.
That being said though, I wish he had an addon that made locker teleports completely silent. It ain’t fun to teleport to a locked locker and make a shit load of noise. :(
I feel that. I would honestly trade Killer Instinct while in lockers for silent locker teleports. Even if the map-wide sound is still there.
I think that would be cool as long as theres visual of him coming to lockers. It would also need to not work during nightfall
As a fellow dredge main i definitely agree. That would be amazing and a great replacement for the helmet addon.
A silent locker addon would be so fucking fun, i always run lavaliers and skull but I might drop skull for a silent locker, would make chase teleports a lot more fun
@@Pheonix19581 lav and skull are fun as fuck. i don't use the third part of lav, i just like scaring people with my teleport, lol

In fact he loves it so much we had to make a counter to count the times he's alloweed to send himself there,
Or was it just us liking it? Can't recall.
Thank you for everything you do, Otz, you are such a beacon to the community.
They should be minor alterations since y'know, its an 'add-on' not a 'build your build around this item'
Also the fact that some killers barely function without proper addons is an abysmal game design choice.
Yea, Trapper needs a small rework.
More seriously, this is a really good showcase and discussion, 100% agree.
I hate that S. Merchant and Knight get Haste for using their power basekit while Trapper needs an addon to do so.

Oh! So it's not just me. I've noticed that sometimes the yellow bottle doesn't speed me up. Must be a glitch.
This makes me wanna see a tier list for killers that only considers if they use the best add-ons and perks
The coffee grounds addon should be made basekit for Trapper, that would be the same buff Knight's basekit recently got
Also the bag addon, no other Killer has to travel around the map without interacting with the survivors to gain his power. It's bas enough that he has to travel to his traps to pick them up/ rearm them when they get disarmed
The Myers speed run woulda been hilarious with Blood Warden
BHVR: DON’T WRITE THAT DOWN, DON’T WRITE THAT DOWN

Or make it only active after you get tier 3 the first time so you have to wait for your second tier 3 to use it giving survivors more time
Buff to trapper idea…
He can hold up to 1 extra trap base kit. The brown bag spawns you with an extra trap. Yellow bag let’s you carry 2 additional traps. Purple bag let’s you spawn 2 extra traps like currently. I feel like this would significantly help his kit
Pig nerfed so hard she doesn't even make the tierlist
The Knight has some like this, and I think it is very smart and cool.
so you have to suck to get value out of your addons?
All I had to do was read the title to know that tombstone Myers was gonna be addressed
Not even Michael Myers' Evil Within Tier 3 tells everyone SPECIFICALLY where he's at the moment he gets it)
With her Iridescent Tape, Sadako becomes one of the strongest killers in DBD...and sadly, I think it's how she should be played thematically too, and not just because it's a cheesy-powerful add-on either. Sadako in Ringu puts people on a clock and forces them to solve an elaborate puzzle before she literally warps their bodies with her sheer rage-induced terror.
She needs some work, and I think focusing on getting her kit to work around Condemned stacks more than Hook states would be the right move, because when playing the hook game Sadako is just beyond pathetic.
couldnt agree more
100%. Real shame that they released it in such a poor state, and even worse that they then left it like this to this day.

Suggestion: every killer has 3 different subclasses
Bloodweb has tokens to use the different subclasses
This could also be applied to different survivor add ons (eg sabo toolkit vs repair toolkit)
for sadako/onryo specifically i can only see two things happening
either make it where getting a hit *out of a TV*, so after teleporting and you get the hit bonus, it does its usual thing and not based on general de-manifestation
or maybe make it instead of instantly turning on the last 4 TVs, maybe reduce their timer a bit for each hit, so they take less time in general to turn back on.
