Lyrics:
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass
Seven years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Ring out the bells again
Like we did when spring began
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass
Twenty years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends...

"20 years has gone so fast"
Short story behind the song...
This came out before my deployment to Iraq (U.S. Marine Corps.)... I had lost people I knew in battle, survived IED explosions, ambushes, and almost died 2 weeks before coming home... my tour ended September 06... this music video and song always brings me back...
This song was in my 25 year old sons phone. He died on 9-23-2014. His summers will never end. My heart just breaks everyday, but hes never gonna feel pain again. Just love. I've been raising his son, as my grandfather did for me. Hes 9 now and i recognize everyday, hes just like his dad. I got a do-over, but ive give my life for them to grow up together. Honor the tears, they cleanse the soul..
Billie, the singer, wrote this about his father who tragically passed away in September when he was 10. He said, “Wake Me Up When September Ends”, to his mother when she checked on him after he ran home from the funeral because he couldn’t handle it. 7 years after his father passed, he joined Green Day, and 20 years after his dad passed, he and Green Day wrote the song.
2004- I love this song 🖤
Anyone here in 2024?
Guys, tomorrow is September. We've waited all this time. It's here.
Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this about his father, who died of cancer on September 1st, 1982 when Billie was just 10 years old. At his father's funeral, Billie cried, ran home & locked himself in his room. When his mother got home & knocked on the door to Billie's room, Billie simply said, "Wake me up when September ends," hence the title.
Who's watching this April 2024?
This song always make me think of my brother who loved Green Day.
2005: quietly cried so my parents wouldn't hear me.
Cherish every moment before it becomes a memory.
My Dad got me into Green Day as a baby I grew up with this band and bonded with my Dad so much over it I bought us tickets for the Saviours Tour this June but my Dad sadly passed away from Cancer two weeks ago this song has a whole new level of connection with me now
I remember hearing this song right before I left for bootcamp. Lots of things were relatable in this video, the war, the girlfriend, all the unknowns.
My dad died of cancer yesterday, And this is is only song I can listen to.
Paying tribute to this song every September 1 until I die.
20 years but still hits the same. what a masterpiece from green day.❤ who is here after end of April 2024
