As someone who was merely a young teen when "No Hands" dropped and is now a full grown adult with plenty of world experiences. I can without a doubt say that that song is one of the single most timeless club bangers ever made. It was hype in 2010, is still hype in 2024. And likely gonna be hype till the end of time.

Thanks for reminding me to rewatch the Narduar interview with Waka Flocka, easily one of the best ever. Flocka is so relaxed and appreciative of the hard work Nardwuar puts in, completely unguarded, without ego and super interested in all the gifts. Always puts a smile on my face

This album changed my entire opinion on what rap music was "supposed" to be. Before hearing this, I only paid respect to lyrical miracle spiritual type rap music because it was "respectable" and "smart." Flockaveli showed me that rap music can be whatever it wants. It can be hype and fun and still be viewed as legitimate art.

I too was one of those people back in 2010 who was like “Waka Flocka Flame? That’s such a silly name! This dude is garbage! How do people actually listen to this?” I feel ridiculous in hindsight, because now I not only love this album, but so many songs and albums it inspired. I think we all owe Waka Flocka Flame an apology, and also a big thank you. He proved us wrong, no question.

The way Hard in Da Paint hypes you up is like how Angel of Death hypes you up. It’s a timeless piece of art that needs to be preserved and archived for future generations.
This is one of the last albums I expected to be considered a classic by fantano, but I am pleasantly surprised nonetheless.
I worked at a summer camp in 2017 and key tracks from this album became a bit among the staff, especially Bustin At Em. For weeks we would go “BOW BOW BOW BOW” to each other in passing to the confusion of the campers & adult leaders lol

BOW is a core memory to anyone who lived through this albums popularity as a kid or teen

This might be one of the most positive reviews I’ve seen from melon. Giving Waka his flowers for not only revolutionizing his sub-genre, but rap as a whole, is far overdue tho. So major props for recognizing that.
Flockaveli is amazing. I actually prefer Salute Me or Shoot Me 4, but its easy to see this album as the superior project because it has his hits

the horns and harmonies in no hands are impeccable. the fact that song is close to 15 years old and still sounds so good is extremely telling of how the rest of this album is a classic

@@ttdanimations1231I think the point is there are definitely some rap/r&b songs from the late 2000s/early 2010s that have aged really poorly, and this is a case where that isn’t what happened and still sounds like a banger

This song will stand the test of time, where as songs from Maroon 5 won’t. See what I’m getting at? and yes music from 15 years ago can be bad, just like music released last week can be bad.
About time somebody was going to give this record some flowers. Waka Flocka and Lex Luger are responsible for making trap music what it was in the 2010s and what it is today. One of the most influential trap albums of all time.

I feel like Lex gets forgotten about most often, instead people mention Zaytoven or Metro. I am all about giving Lex Luger his “flowers” and I wish more ppl thought like you. He’s the one who first one influenced me to make beats at home with just my laptop like 10 years ago, all from just his YT videos

I remember seeing Tyler the Creator listening to him going crazy in the car and man it shows how ahead of their time they both were
This is the Album that changed the sound of Rap. Waka got every producer to use hard hitting 808’s layered with kicks

It definitely felt like this album started the punk phase hip-hop later embraced in the mid 2010’s. I remember this album being embraced by skaters and metal kids which rarely crossed into hip-hop
Karma is my favourite. Even years later I still go back to it

Let's admit it, this album was the WLR back then which is funny because WLR came out a full decade later. I wasn't big on Flocka until I heard this album last year and it's amazing how quickly I placed it as my top 5 and I couldn't go a day or two hell a week without playing a single song off this project. One song I didn't care for was smoke drank cause of the production sounding unfinished to me. Other than that 9/10

This album laid the blueprint for drill. Young Chop took his whole sound from Luger.
I avoided Wacka Flocka back in 2010, but got into trap once it matured a bit. Decided to give this album a try because of this review. It’s kind of nuts that every “trap style beat” tutorial on TH-cam is just trying really hard to sound like this album.
I too, as an elder Millennial, thought very little of both Waka and this album at the time of it's release, due to similar sentiments about what the standard of good rap music was supposed to be much like what was stated in the video. However, I listened to this album a couple of years ago on recommendation from people who figured I would love the vibe of the album & I truly felt like I slept on him & didn't give him a fair shake. This album is without a doubt a bona fine rap classic & it hits hard & solid.
So much love for this classic Waka Flocka album. Lex Luger was also one of the best producers for me around that time.

As someone who's favorite genre of music has largely always been extreme metal despite having a taste for everything, I adored this album when it came out and still do today. The brash in your face attitude while not taking itself that seriously very much resonated with me. Much like you said it almost had a punk energy to it and I always deeply appreciated that aspect of it
I used to get made fun of HARD for listening to this album on a daily basis in high school. It’s cray how long it took people to realize how influential this album was on trap music especially when it comes to the production on the album.
2010-2016 in Atlanta you would hear hits from this record in the club and the place would fucking explode. Hard In Da Paint could get the cops called to your place. Grove St Party too.
This album caused a shift. Deserved review.

The quality degrades with the years
So fascinating to me how early '00s pop rap was basically two separate genres, with stuff like Kanye, Jay-Z, and other "brag rap" artists standing beside crunk like Waka and Lil Jon, and you had stuff like Ying Yang twins floating around too. What a time.

Not really related to the review, but “H.A.M” also has Jay-Z dissing Lil Wayne and Lil Wayne dissed him back on “Tha Carter IV”. So not only it was poorly received because of the stylistic change, but because they made that song for filler and that Lil Wayne diss would reel people in
I think Waka and this album did a lot for the soundcloud rap movement (particularly the florida scene and anyone using Ronny J-style production) which in turn influenced carti and rage and the rise of alternative hiphop. Waka paved the way
I remember anticipating the release of this album for a long time and it being one of the few things in my life be it a movie, a game, an album, to live up to exactly what was expected of it. In the datpiff era a lot of artists would release trap music mixtapes with a good sound but then their albums would be much safer and more mainstream. Flockaveli on the other hand kept the same energy as his mixtapes while having the quality turned up to the max. Not to mention it followed one of the greatest trap mixtapes of all time, Lebron Flocka James 2. I still regularly play Flockaveli.

I used to bump this a lot. Waka really brought the energy and catchy hooks. It was just fun to listen to and it reminded me of the whole ATL Crunk wave I grew up on

I really miss Waka's delivery. No one else does it like him. There are scremo rappers, sure, but Waka didn't scream, he yelled. Not to go all uhh more like mumble crap amirite, but I do prefer rap where I can actually make out what the words are, because the wordplay is a part of the genre. He's also not someone who grew on me, because I liked him immediately, and it was Gucci Mane who was the hard sell for me, and it I still really just love a couple of his songs.
My favorite crossover involving Waka is that Odd Future were also fans, and they collaborated a bit. But I dream one day we get one of those collab mixtapes where they photoshop two rapper's faces together one the left and the other the right half, and it's Tyler and Waka going head to head
Met Flocka out at the bars after he played a show at my university, maybe 2015 or 2016. Seemed like one of the nicest dudes ever

I was super into deathcore at the time and melodic death metal, really just as long as it went super hard I was in. To my 16 year old ass Waka was the Carnifex of rap, he went in so fucking hard I was ridin this shit from day one I got subwoofers installed in my truck at the time cuz of this album

This album was the genesis for the new wave of trap that evolved from a previous sound largely developed by DJ Toomp and Shawty Redd in the mid 2000s. Lex Luger took that sound and made it even more aggressive and laid the blueprint for other styles of trap to be incorporated not only into strains of hip hop to come but also pop music and other genres.
