I've never known a master tradesman like Jim who'd spend hours shoveling 2A limestone; there'd be a teenager doing that. That says both "Get 'er done," and a mountain of humility. I like that he wouldn't leave Mike without a floor drain, and other "What if he needs this?" problems down the road. IF you're burying waste lines in a slab -- especially one with heat -- you need somebody like Jim.
Good morning Morgan’s. Jim is an old school tradesman. Knowledge and skill together makes for a good guy. The fact that he said he was thinking about your job, and you should add the extra drain, means that he cares about what he does. Have a day!
I too love seeing a tradesman work. You know Jim knows his stuff by conversation, by work technique, readily slings a shovel, and wears a serious work apron.
Our church had the septic line freeze up here in New Hampshire but it was because part of the line that froze was under the parking lot. When it was plowed it allowed the frost to go so much deeper than when the snow in on the ground and it caught right in that spot. Also, Jim's a keeper! Great guy and conscientious worker. Rare breed.
It is so refreshing to see someone take pride in their work . You know you are getting a premium job when you hire this man . He has not been in business for 40 years by doing crappy work !!!!!
@@dennishayes65 a plumber working for free! Unheard of. Motor Mike said he was going to pay him regardless, plus his phone number was on the side of his sparkling clean van! As a carpenter we always said plumbers and electricians made too much money for the tools they had to have on the job. Usually a 5 gallon pail with glue, a handsaw, tape measure and a level could do the job. $25 for the carpenter an hour and $75 for the plumber. All in all, who wants to hand pump water and use an outhouse. 😀
If a young guy could get with Jim and learn for several years would have a heck of a meal ticket for the rest of their working life. Guys like Jim are very rare. Mike, Thanks for sharing this.
Jim is Jim Dandy! Funny Jim mentioned water lines freezing in '78. Our house to barn line froze that year and stayed froze for a couple of months. Luckily, we had originally had cistern water at the house and barn so we were able to run city water via a garden hose from the house, hook up to a faucet in the barn somewhere around the water pump and pressurized the barn and milk parlor. If I remember right and it's been 43 years, it was cold enough here in KY that we ran a tractor all night to have one run for feeding in the day or pull start others. Fuel jelled, tires looked flat. I was tougher then! NOT ANY MORE! Of course, '82 and '83 were worse, -15 on Christmas Day and zero or worse lots of other days both years. I remember it getting into the 20s and it felt like a heat wave.
FINALLY an honest plumber that absolutely looks and sounds trust worthy!!! Jim pls come to North Jersey I have a few jobs at my house I need done. We will even put you up in our guest apartment!
Goodmorning Morgans and everyone watching this episode. Its always good to have someone who knows what their doing and it makes the job so much easier.
Reminds me of working with my father during the summers as a teenager, he was a brick/block layer. I could not move fast enough to keep him supplied with what he needed. Those are hard working men
We have similar memories. My parents owned a trailer park in central Louisiana. We put in our own septic tank sewer systems. The tanks were concrete and poured in place. All the digging for the tanks and field lines were hand dug with a shovel. My younger brother and I dug all the field lines, 300 feet for each tank. Plez, a day laborer, would dig the hole for the tanks. After we moved to the New Orleans area we would spend our summers back in central LA building three more mobile home spaces. There was a septic system for each three trailer section.

Jim is Awsome Seams he knows his stuff!! Depends on if the ground is bare or if someone is driving on it or disturbing the area in the cold weather it all drives the frost deeper!! 👍👊
Good morning ☀️ The thing a like about Jim he is a straight shooter right to the point. If a young kid wants to learn about plumbing you want Jim as a mentor. When start doing HVAC I had mentor like Jim hard worker and tough.Thank you for sharing and great weekend.
Good day, beautiful week of weather forecasted for Nova Scotia. This will be the first I get into the honeybees for the 2021 season. Very excited. Beautiful weather makes everyone happy.
For those that would like an apron like Jim’s, it would be easy to make. Purchase as heavy an apron as you can find. Fold the bottom up as much as you want the pockets to be deep. You may need to cut some off the bottom if it’s too long. Sew the folded sides together then put a stitch to form the pockets as you like. Should take 10 to 15 minutes if you have a sewing machine. It would not be very hard to make one from scratch either.
Good advice on plumbing. We have zero codes here in Missouri and any knucklehead can call himself a plumber. I hired the only master plumber in the area for my house. He was worth the price.
I would have to agree. My Mom had her sewer lateral collapse and I pulled permits and tore out all of the old cast iron and replaced the entire DWV throughout the entire house along with her water lines. She pays into a mandatory sewer lateral program through the County. The inspector called contractors to bid replacing the outside service. Okay, I call the company that was awarded the bid. Three weeks later here they come, no advance call. My Mom calls me and tells me they're jack hammering up her concrete driveway and sidewalk. I'm on my way Ma, tell them to cease and desist. Holy crap, they were on a search and destroy mission. They only replaced two foot of pipe with rubber bands and collapsed the cast iron. That's all the program required. Huh? Guess who dug up her entire yard and replaced the sewer lines all the way to the street and repaired her sidewalks and driveway. The inspector wrote me a citation for replacing everything. See you in court, documentation, documentation. Reminded me of that Three Stooges episode. What a mess. I'm a Union Contractor for 36 years now. The stories I could share.
I’m not sure what part of Missouri you are in but the whole KC Metro area has plenty of codes. I’ve been plumbing here since 1991 and have had plenty of great inspectors that work with you and plenty that don’t know their a$$ from a hole in the ground. I know a floor drain in a “garage” in my area would require an outdoor 1500 gallon sand/oil separator and a regular pumping schedule with documentation.
A good new construction plumber will always have a tape measure and a torpedo level on them at all times when roughing in the plumbing. Hots on the left, Colds on the right, Poop rolls down hill, Pay day is on Friday, Wash your hands before you eat & Don't chew on your finger nails!!! One suggestion for you Mike, Feed Jim the best local Pizza in your area, he likes trying pizza from different pizza places all over the country.
Yes it nice to a professional not only doing excellent work but willing reach out and helping someone, great job Jim. I'm always looking for people in the trades that I can trust to do a good job. I don't mind paying extra for someone that works hard, and is honest and in what they do. John Mangas

That's not how post frame buildings are done. Traditional homes are constructed as you said.
