We live in Western Pa. and Have around 100 Acres of Land, About 1/2 is ours the rest is my moms, We have 4 kids and one grandchild, 3 Golden Retrievers and one Cat. We enjoy working on our property and making impovements. We sell firewood and soon will be selling hardwood lumber.

@@realairplane261 yes. One of my neighbors, a single woman a few years older than myself, bought the property on the hill near us. We were different in many ways, including politically. She removed the carpet in her living room, put shavings on the floor and fenced it off using chicken wire. There were probably 10 birds of various species that lived in that space. She turned much of her house into a rescue sanctuary for various animals. Now, I like animals, but she was way over the top, IMHO. She had a horrible, long, steep, gravel driveway with no equipment to maintain it. On several occasions, I plowed the snow so she wouldn’t have to park her car at the road and carry both her and the animals’ food through the snow, up the hill. There were times when the driveway became so rutted from rain runoff that it was impassable. I took my tractor and box blade and made it useable again.

What you did is what sets western PA apart from other locations in the US. I’ve lived in 5 states since leaving western PA in my 20s. My father would help anyone around where we lived and they did the same. Money was never accepted. Dad still lives that way at 70.
I'm the same as you and I've found it holds true in pretty much every state...

There is a reason for that. When you help someone else usually you get many thanks even if you don't accept money.. When you do your own project nobody thanks you.

Helping anyone save $5K has to be a very satisfying feeling and keeping them from being hosed only makes it better.
I’ve done similar things for neighbours in the past. Never take a dollar, but things like fresh baked pies or cookies or maybe a bottle of freshly made maple syrup have a tendency to show up on the doorstep!
Warm from the oven home made cookies are the greatest!
That is how the neighbors "pay" me back for clearing snow from their long driveway.

Helping a neighbor when you can... something we just did when we were growing up. There was no asking, you saw a need, and you did what needed to be done. It wasn't for or about money. It made us feel good and thankful you had the skill and machinery to do it. We called it paying it forward. Something we are sorely lacking these days.

Mike, great job!!! It is great to see people helping their neighbors!!! I have done things for people like plowing snow, tractor work or hauling a broken down car. I let the payment up to them or tell them to find a needy person to help. Not allowing people to pay sometimes snubs their way to show gratitude. In their heart thank you is not enough compared to what you did for them. In reality I have no problem with not taking payment!! Be blessed!!!

An idea is take a tank to Levi's, then he can run tubing for Sap Collection right into a tank or 2. Good on you to help out a neighbor, the world needs more of this being done !!
In my experience, those tanks were not used for food grade liquids. I would be very careful using them.
@@scottdcaron i saw some black crud in them. There are some that are made for food grade, but not the ones I saw on OWTM. We had a maple syrup producer here in northern most Wisconsin that was using paint containers to collect sap.🤨

That's what neighbors do ! Thanks for helping them out in an emergency. I had to call on a couple of my neighbors this week when my truck died. They came and helped out, got me running again and like you wouldn't take a dime. I will do something for later unknown to them. I will repay by helping someone else.
