- Hi! Today I'd like to share with you the story of when we got stuck on a tiny Scottish island in the Outer Hebrides. The island was hit by incredibly stormy weather and so no boats or ships were aloud to leave the harbour. It most definitely was a crazy few days! I hope you enjoy.

I'm 52, and I'm currently doing backpacking on the outer hebrides. I did this when I was in my twenties, and now I repeat. ❤
I have no experience hiking or camping, but man would I love to go over here!! The UK countryside is beautiful in general. I started doing landscape photography for fun, within the Lancaster, PA area, but then I realized wow I'm really good at this lol. I would be satisfied just walking around and taking pictures.

I have lived on Skye for 20 months and, until we moved, had never experienced storms. I love them, being out when nature is throwing a tantrum, is so exhilarating. Everyone should get the opportunity to witness these storms first hand as they are amazing.

I was on the overnight ferry from Lerwick in the Shetland Islands to Aberdeen about 15 years ago and the waves sounded like shotgun blasts when they hit the side and I literally thought that we where going to turn over and sink but as I'm typing this obviously we didn't!The power of nature is amazing.

There's nothing better than a Hebrides storm! I was once in a shepherd's bothy on one of the Hebrides islands with one of the wildest storms ever... and it was exhilirating! I was in the Hebrides last week, but no storms this time unfortunately... but still amazing! :)

Something very atmospheric about your videos, very enjoyable to watch
When I was 8 years old my family and I were finishing a sabbatical my dad had been given from the college he taught at. Scotland was the last country we visited before going home. I remember the beauty of the county. Crystal clear little rivers and the lochs and mountains. Thank you for your wonderful videos. It makes me want to go back again.
So funny, I was on the isle of Eigg this very same weekend. We set out to walk to the shop (usually a 20 min walk) and it took us 2.5 hours in the wind. It was really nice to be locked up cosy indoors with the fire on, though, watching the weather. Really enjoyed this video :)

I am from the northeast U.S and tropical Puerto Rico and I am used to all storms. As long as I am blessed with a good shelter, I love riding out storms. Scotland offers so much like nature, countryside, lochs, good people and really dynamic weather. My kind of a good time.
The Outer Hebrides is my favorite part of the UK, I'm planning on going back and hopefully visit my clans castle which you can see at the end of the video when you bored the Ferry called Kisimul Castle, as when I was on holiday in the Outer Hebrides in 2019 I couldn't get to the Isle of Barra because of the storm's. It's still a beautiful place.
I dream of living that close to a beach like that 💙 my heart yearns for it .

Really nice to see you two so wildly in joy. Just this morning I wrote an offer to a Scottish couple, offering to garden & massage in exchange for room & board. I was last in Scottish mainland & upon an island, to remain unnamed..in 2000 peddle bike free camping..2 months, England too. Quite nice !

That weather though. lol My partner and I live on the east coast of Scotland, so we're used to bad whether, but it doesn't usually get as bad as you guys had it in this video. Haha. Typical Easter in Scotland if you ask me. Only country where you can experience the four seasons in one day. We still had to go to school in more severe conditions when I was young. Oh how I miss it.
Have you considered reading for audiobooks? You have such soothing voice and accent!
1:59 best not to disturb the resting swans and to keep a discrete distance. By flushing them and forcing them to make an escape flight you are making them use up precious energy in that awful weather.

I wouldn't recommend anybody try copying Alexandra and going in that cave, particularly when raining. The middle of Vatersay is formed from a sand bank between two rocky outcrops. The cliffs on the west beach are made from sand and earth. As a result, they are unstable, and liable to collapse if eroded from below. Nature is beautiful, but it has its dangers too!
The sea is always friendly though, it comes in, waves, then goes out again.

I have read too many gothic novels to take cover in a cave because of the tide may come in fast and you are stuck it drown!!
I haven't read any gothic novels but that was my first thought also :-) But I do live in an area where the difference in low and high tide is pretty awesome.

@@alexandrareuter327 we live on Lewis and have explored most places. Have you heard the Vatersay boys? Worth a listen but I must say that’s not as bad as some we get up here where you can’t stand up outside. Winds over 100 mph

1:20 those plain houses with no chimney pots are very out of place. They look like suburban bungalows in any town.
But why wouldn’t people there live in nice modern comfy houses too
@@tonyharman6740 because those style of houses aren’t comfy or built solid enough to last in the Scottish weather.
Those flimsy out of place bungalows will be gone in a few decades while the houses that were built to last will be there for hundreds of years to come.
They obviously knew something about architecture that’s been lost through the generations.

We didn't disturb them. You mean cause you can see them flying in the video? The swans (as well as quite a few other sea birds) kept landing and then flying again from one puddle to the next. Pretty sure it had nothing to do with us. There was quite a bit of competition between the different birds. The swans eventually settled in a big puddle at the bottom of a hill, a bit more sheltered from the wind.
