A day after making this video I'm finding more and more reasons for both. Team turn off - disconnecting external USB drives. For my game clips I have to turn off the console every time I want to eject the drive because there's no way to natively do it. You can only eject the drive when using external hard drives as USB extended storage. But if you use an external to back up game captures, the menu doesn't show up so you have to turn it off every time.
"Do you drink water or eat food" style of question. I use rest mode when taking short breaks and power off when gaming is done, though, I actually do have a different use for rest mode. Rather than shut off my console while it's still hot, I close all apps and stay on the user select screen for it to gradually cool down, then let it automatically go into rest mode and 20 minutes after that I shut it off. I do the same with my PS4 and PS4 Pro. I don't like the idea of the board quickly flexing from rapid temperature changes.
That's a good idea to combat the heat issues people were worried about. Especially if your fan is active and you shut it off suddenly. Let it do its job first and cool it first. I like that.
I leave it in rest mode during the day when I'm awake and when I go to sleep I turn it off to save power. I've been told that rest mode does updates and syncs save files to the cloud storage and installs games, so it speeds things up alittle to start playing games right away. 🇬🇧
Pretty much always rest mode. Used to shut down when travelling, but then I'd get home and have to wait on massive updates to play games. Or, I would get a new game from the PS App and have to wait for it to download. The only time I actually turn it off and unplug is when I'm travelling overseas for 1-2 weeks.
I feel like this should be a no brainer. Even if u don't care about remote play or quick resume, Auto Updates is a good enough reason alone to use rest mode. If u don't have that fast of internet and u try to update or download a game while playing another online u can experience problems... Rest mode is not "on" and the electricity bill won't go up substantially, and unless u regularly experience power outages there's no worries about PS5 damage. I'd be more concerned with having a power outage while playing. Last time I bricked an electronic was the first time I flashed a new OS on my old Android years ago.
That's a weird glitch. I get annoyed at rest mode because I'm moving the ps5 constantly. So it's a pain to wake it up just to shut it down before unplugging. Or to eject a drive safely.
Your editing skills are really in it’s own league. I usually put my console in rest mode if I am planning any further gaming session in the day (so usually over the weekends), otherwise I turn it off. 🇺🇸
Wow really? This was a low effort video compared to others I've done. Thanks so much for the nice words. My rest mode usage is game specific. If a game has quick save, I just turn it off if I'm gonna go make dinner. But if it's half an hour between saves kinda game, I'll use rest mode when taking a short break.
Sometimes I do rest sometimes I do off. I like to move my PlayStation from my room to the living room from time to time and putting it into off mode means I don’t have to worry about damaging it when I unplug it without thinking.
@@ryanwinters9375 yea that's exactly my reasoning. I have a gaming monitor to take advantage of high frame rates and move it to the tv when focusing on chill story based games. I also bring it over to my gf's when trying couch coop games. I get so annoyed at shutting it off from rest mode that I just leave it off to be safe.

Mine is either on or off, and automatic rest mode feature is disabled. Even shut it down from the mains like everything that's not being used. But my house is over 200 years old and worried about electrical issues when I'm not there. Power cuts are frequent🏴🇬🇧
Thanks for the tip, i've had it downloaded for a while now but remote play app has been working fine for me. I think I downloaded chiaki to see if it improved the lag while streaming but didn't stick with it. Do you prefer it over the Official one?
@@OliveOcelot I have a hard time to make the official work, it freezes after a few seconds and I have to close an open it several times for it to finaly work past the first 15 seconds freeze.
